Notice how literally no one mentions gameplay.
I love this game and it’s easily one of my favorites of all time, but the gameplay is horrendous (especially for an open world game). The game limits any form of strategy like stealth or smart tactics besides what the game forces you to do. The gameplay loop consists of riding to a place, shooting that place, and then go find something else to do. The honor system is a joke because it fundamentally counters the point of being an outlaw and robbing people and even if you wanted to commit to being a good guy, there is no point because the game gives you a ton of honor at the end so everyone can get the good ending. Combat is an in-depth as a point and click adventure game; the only way to really enjoy the game is using free aim which for original released, they didn’t even give you aim assist for console players. The game is basically on easy mode with the only difficult part is trying master the clunky controls.
I love this game because of the detail and care put into it, but people got to stop pretending this game is perfect. The gameplay isn’t even passable-it’s a shame to modern gaming and how far we have come to use mechanics that Rockstar has copied and pasted into their games for years. Maybe a flawed masterpiece is a good name for it, but it doesn’t deserve to be the best game of all time when the most important part of a game is bad.

RDR2 clearly revived my dying love for video games.
I've been a gamer since 1988 and I was starting to think I was too old for this.
But then, this absolute gem finally came out and I realized that my age had nothing to do with it.
Great games are simply a rare thing and it takes many years to make one of them.
The thing is that not many studios can afford spending that amount of time and money in a game development, which is why most games are soul less and boring.

I played the first red dead redemption when I was 11. My Dad got the game when it first came out and we both played it and it quickly became our favourite game. We speculated for YEARS about another RDR game and what it could have been, we always talked about the idea of seeing John in the gang in the next game before it was even revealed and so when it was revealed we were so excited. I was worried about there being a new protagonist, believing that I wouldn’t love a main character as much as I loved John but oh was I wrong. Arthur Morgan was one of the best characters I have ever witnessed and obviously, playing the first red dead I knew that it was either going to end with him dying or running away. His redemption arc was so heartbreaking. I love this game more than anything.

In the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, I embarked on a journey with Arthur Morgan that resonated with me. His strength, loyalty, and self-discovery got me thinking. Arthur's loyalty to his gang and his interactions with others inspired me to reflect on my own life.
As the game reached its conclusion, Arthur's selflessness in tough times left a mark. His pursuit of redemption and helping others, even when faced with his own mortality, struck a chord. Watching his final moments and hearing his message of hope made me reevaluate my priorities.
From a technical standpoint, the game's world is a masterpiece. The stunning landscapes, intricate details, and ever-changing weather transport you to the late 1800s. The graphics capture the world's beauty, from rugged mountains to tranquil lakeshores, adding depth to the story.
What sets Red Dead Redemption 2 apart is its dynamic world where choices matter. The characters I met had their own stories, and my decisions shaped the narrative. The wildlife felt alive, and the connection to nature was something truly special.
Red Dead Redemption 2 goes beyond gaming it's an emotional journey reflecting life's complexities. Arthur's transformation and the relationships formed with the game's world and characters have pushed me to strive for positive change, just like he did.

Out of every emotional moment in Red Dead 2, the one that brought me to sobbing tears was... the housebuilding scene. I played the first game when i was 14 and it was the first time a video game had ever made me cry, when John was finally trying to live his peaceful life he worked so hard for and got gunned down at his home to save his family. Building that very home in the second game in a joyous montage was the saddest part of the entire story, because it was all John ever wanted. This is my favorite game of all time.

John is a great character and I love playing as him in RDR1 but the world of RD2 just feels so empty without Arthur similar to how empty the world feels without John in RD1.
RD2 is Arthur's game and that's the way I see it.
Though it is nice to play as John too. I would've enjoyed it better if I didn't have to mod John to look like his old self and have his old animations not having to worry about "Arthur Marston" all the time.

I was so lucky to have rdr2 be the first game I ever played, it’s story, world characters are all literally PERFECT. The way you can see Micah’s manipulation of Dutch right in front of your eyes the entire time and not notice it until after you complete the game is truly mind blowing though the gameplay is repetitive the story is the greatest story of all time. This being the first game I ever played has made it very hard for any game to live up to it, and they can’t rdr2 is on its own league

I do not entirely agree that Dutch let his true colours shine. We see him genuinely doing good stuff for some folks without expecting anything in return, such as taking Sadie Adler in or even near the end refusing to let anybody behind when Micah suggesting to cut them loose. I do believe he was a man with a great deal of evil and madness in him, which circumstances (along with Micah's manipulation) triggered turning him into the monster we see in RDR. In this regard, both of them are true to some extent.

I swear on everything in this world that this is no-doubt the most amazing, beautiful, and awesome prequel this world has ever seen. This is what RDR2 is for me.
Long before 2018, I was a geek for rdr1, it was basically my life. I loved that someone actually made a game about cowboys and gunslingers shooting in the Wild West. Not just the gameplay and storyline hooked me, but it was the dedication and the map, the outfits, everything was absolutely incredible in rdr1. I loved John and I was heartbroken when he died.
In 2016, when I heard that Rockstar was considering and developing RDR2, I was so excited and hyped. This game is the best thing in the world, and I didn’t ever think it could surpass rdr1, since that was my favorite game I ever played. Cyberpunk was extremely overhyped, and it was awful gameplay to me. RDR2 on the other hand, promised us exactly what they offered in the official game trailer. There was no shams! Rockstar has slowed down tremendously since RDR2 though, since the Definitive Edition was a letdown. I enjoyed playing the GTA franchise, but rdr1 just seemed incomparable to GTA. Once RDR2 released, I was immediately hooked. I loved everything about it. The views in this game are out of this world incredible. Some even breathtaking. Like, on a mountain or a very beautiful incline. Overlooking the grasslands was definitely a huge part of this game that I loved. Other than the views, there is so much I can explain. For example, there is more possibilities in RDR2 than the original RDR. Like, you can order food in a restaurant. We can’t forget the gorgeous graphics. Like seriously, these are the best graphics ever. Sure, TLOU2 had good graphics, but I feel like RDR2 really took the cake. Including Marston’s scars, Arthur’s hole in his beard, and even some marks and scratches that are clearly visible if you shave Arthur’s beard. The detail is so good in this game that it even feels lifelike and real. The chance-encounters, like the wolf man, the gunsmith in Rhodes, the talking trees, the ghost train, the night folk, the Murfree brood, the skinner brothers, the odriscolls, the lemoyne raiders, the vampire in Saint Denis, the serial killer, and I’m literally not even half way on the chance-encounters. And the missions and side-missions! The storyline in this game is so awesome and fun that some players take advantage of it. GTA primarily focuses on drugs and money and girls but I feel like RDR2 focuses on family. Family like Arthur felt like Dutch and the gang were. Family like Arthur, Eliza, and Isaac. Family like John, Abigail, and Jack. Family is everywhere. It teaches a moral lesson almost. Like how family can sometimes turn their back on you and it can sting and grieve. Family like that will always have your back, just like Sadie, Charles, and John had Arthur’s. You have the complete option to be an honored cowboy or a dishonored outlaw. If you choose to steer Arthur down a good path, the story is different from the opposite path. Things will be slightly better for Arthur, as he gets to peacefully watch the sunrise as he drifts into death. Or if you’re bad, you can suffer and watch him gruesomely get shot in the head. There is so many outcomes in this game and they all revolve around you. You decide everything in this game. It’s not one of those life simulators but RDR2 has many lessons. In conclusion, I never meant for my paragraph to be that long, but RDR2 is the best game that ever was. Even if you don’t like adventure/action games, RDR2 surely has a piece of something you like in it. There is so much to do in this one single video game and its mind-blowing. If you are looking to buy, I 100% think you should buy this! Worth ever damn cent!

I love the narrative and it’s characters specially the legend John Marston and Arthur
The open world is immersive and beautiful.
The combat is fun even though it’s simple but dead eye is such a cool mechanic
The soundtrack is legendary with a great variety.

OMG what u said at the beginning about losing the love for games is what I've been going through. I thought it was just me. I have an Xbox series X & with game pass you automatically get 100's of games instantly. So far I still haven't seen anything mind blowing that I grew up seeing, at this point it seems like Xbox Series X's main focus is to optimize the older xbox games so we can play them at 4k 120 fps...Rather than to take the amount of effort it takes to creating a single person masterpiece, so they'll spend that time on creating a multi-player game that they can keep on added DLC & cosmetics to a 10 year game which continuesly makes them money without them taking the time, effort, & money to create a new game that has the pressure of having to live up to the power of this new n
Next gen console claims to have. But after watching qll these RUclips videos of the content i missed 4 years ago when I completed the game twice. Im actually excited to be on my 3rd playthrough, & once I'm done I'm going to do completed RD1 again
