    I’m convinced people just have a short attention span or just the inability to relax and play. Length wasn’t that big an issue for me, it was a great length.

    • @Danfrombackhome
      @Danfrombackhome 7 месяцев назад +5

      Thats all it is. They want 5 minute online battle royales. They cant explore and savor the story

    • @useyourimaginasean
      @useyourimaginasean 6 месяцев назад +4

      The fact people even propose length being an issue for a story mode in any triple A game let alone _this one_ is really frustrating. If it’s even worth the time of day to criticize rdr2 for length in someone’s opinion they could have spent the same amount of time typing that criticism playing pubg, war zone, helldivers2, halo, or any survival/battle royale/round based matches in other games.
      Criticizing the length of a story is counterproductive. It is also hurting the people who play the games by circulating even a hinted notion publishers can further justify cutting single player games into smaller experiences than they are already. The narrative crafted in Red Dead Redemption 2 from someone with a graduate degree in a creative writing (no debt boah) field: I think this game and it’s story will stand the test of time as a touchstone piece of American fiction. Single player story modes are important to video games not only for the value they provide in being a form of art that connects with people deeper than most mediums, they are vital for solidifying their potential to be recognized as a kind of storytelling and art form that demolishes the limit of what people think art can be. By saying “it’s too long” as a criticism that suggests and gives reassurance to developers and publishers that they can continue to excrete unfinished, always-online, live-service, multi-seasonal games designed to extract revenue recreating the same tactics as casinos. *Regardless* of cosmetic or pay to play monetization.
      I used to stay up all night playing COD zombies and Halo 3 with my bros growing up. Now that I’m strapped for time it matters to me how much I enjoy the story of any game I have time to play. I think every dollar I paid for RDR2 was worth it (not talking about online) and I haven’t felt the same way about anything I’ve played since then. If someone can’t play and finds the story too long and has the urge to go somewhere and complain about length that’s probably a deeper issue for them personally than the game.

    Both RDR games do such excellent work with character evolution, but holy shit RDR2 is on another level. Each character has such an interesting arc and such a definitive personality. Greatest story mode game I’ve ever played. I went to the midnight release for it and have beat the game 5+ times and still every play through I find new people, places, weapons. It took me a couple play throughs to figure out what the trinkets were for. Whenever covid started I began a new game and am going for 100% completion😂 it’s been almost 2 years a lot has changed I lost my nan who I’d always talk to about red dead because my grandpa loved cowboy movies and just the whole cowboy era and just recently lost my father who I wasn’t that close with and two weeks ago I moved out of my childhood home where I lived with that same nan but I guess where I’m going with this is that still throughout all this craziness I still love this game as much as I did when I was just a teenager standing in that midnight release lineup waiting for this game wondering to myself will my wifi be able download the game in time before school the next day (the answer is no but I did what any real gamer would do skip school)

    I finished the story mode and decided to live a western like life. I left Abigail and Jack and decided to move in a open house close to Valentine. I “work” as a bounty hunter and a “horse maintenance” for Pronghorn. I’ll stay a few nights at Pronghorn ranch before heading back to Valentines. I often visit Arthur’s grave and take a vacation to Cotorra Springs or Saint Denis. I normally go to Saint Denis by train. I also like to visit Pearson in Rhodes often and visit Bolder Glade. Every so often I might go on a alligator hunt or hunt in New Austin. Like it’s interesting to live like a normal person. I don’t use the map and normally stay in first person.

    I put around 300 hours into RDR2 between Xbox One X and PS4 Pro back in 2018/2019. I put it down and kind of forgot about it even though I loved it. Fast forward to December 2022; I randomly bought it on Steam sale last week and started playing it in 4K on Ultra settings at 60fps+ and this masterpiece blew my mind for a second time. On a high end PC it looks like a game that should have released this year, not 4 years ago. Rockstar outdid themselves with this one. I plan on putting at least another 300 hours into the PC version. 10/10.

    In all my playthroughs I play RD2 like real life, an average day for my arthur would be doing camp chores then going hunting, maybe playing some poker or fiver finger fillet and then doing something to make some money like bounty hunting or robbing store underground enterprises. And then relax with some fishing or a nice horse ride before heading back to camp. if it's too dark I always camp out and ride only in day unless i'm forced otherwise. I know a lot of people think that this can be boring but I think it makes the game feel more alive and relaxing.

    9:52 ''Weapon variety is pretty lacking, but it makes sense for the time period as there weren't a lot of guns''
    This time period was probably one of the most innovative times for firearms, as the development of many new types was during this time. Some becoming standard and others obviously not.
    Examples;
    Revolvers/pistols:
    patterson 1836
    pepperbox 1865
    navy/army cap and ball conversion 1871
    schofield 1875
    lemant 1856
    derranger model 95 1865
    nagant 1895
    borchardt c93 1893
    fn model 1900 ''was being sold in 1899''
    mars model 1897
    landstad 1899
    volcanic 1855
    webly model 1887
    mauser c96
    bergman 1896

    gasser 1870
    reichsrevolver 1879
    colette gravity pistol 1855
    luger p08 1898
    Rifles:
    Karabiner 98
    carcano 1891
    Lee Enfield 1895
    Krag jorgenson 1886
    revolving rifle 1855
    henry rifle 1866
    whinchester model 1873
    rolling block 1866
    springfield 1873
    whinchester falling block 1879
    spencer 1860
    whinchester model 1890
    madsen rasummen 1896
    roth haenel 1899
    400 nitro express 1895
    shotguns:
    browning model 1878
    browning model 1887
    browning model 1897
    browning auto 5 1898
    side by side lefever 1883
    bannerman 1890
    john dickson triple barrel 1891
    springfield forager 1881
    snider conversion 1867
    rdr2 already included quite a few of these, but they certainly had more to work with if they so chose to.

      Oh I totally get that mate
      I respect the massive focus on keeping it faithful to the time period but because of that the game does lack gunplay variety
      Sure you could use the bow but other than that it all just plays the same but it really is just a nit pick in the grand scheme of things. It’s a long game and everyone I know finished it at least once :)

    • @shadow9774
      @shadow9774 Год назад

      @@JacksGameReviews You misunderstood what I said. Gun variety shouldn't be a limiting factor. The most innovation in firearms technology was from the 1880s to 1920s. All modern firearms in use today use principles and technologies from that timeperiod. The only major change is the material used and the manufacturing process.
      RockStar giving the same feel to every type of firearm is their choice, the timeperiod certainly lent itself a greater variety.

      @@dirtyshinobii I couldn't disagree more. I'd describe RDR2's story as one of the best presented bad stories ever. Take any moment from the story as an isolated moment and it seems fine. The mocap work is good, the VA work is great, the dialogue works, etc. Then you piece them all together and all of the plot-holes, contrivances, inconsistent characterization, heavy-handed themes and just downright stupid elements all start to weight it down. Particularly when they undercut gameplay and the open-world elements.
