      Hi Janelle, I have just bought some L Tyrosine and 5htp.. My question is can I take these with Tramadol... Long story short. I'm trying to get off the tramadol as my back pain has fortunately now improved, the problem is I had become addicted to the tramadol, so Iv been having to take it, just to feel normal
      So my plan was to eventually get off the tramadol completely with the help of l tyrosine and 5htp.

    I just saw a video on being serotonin dominant... and believe I fit the bill. I also suspect, I'm dopamine deficient... I'm ADHD. Adderall was overkill, and quickly became inefficient, destructive to the clarity of thinking.
    At one time I took an SSRI for depression, and it made everything worse... extremely so... intense adhedonia, no joy, even at things that gave me joy in the past.
    In my youth, drugs and alcohol did a wonderful thing to lift my mood, increase motivation, and even helping this ADHD guy focus, intensely.
    I'd rather not get my dopamine from drugs and alcohol.... I need to find a less harmful and healthy way to do so.
    I will give L-Tyrosine a shot. Thank you.

    As a dopamine deficient individual i supplement with L tyrosine or L phenylalanine. I only use small amounts of tryptophan from time time when i get sudden and unusual sugar cravings. This is the trigger that my serotonin levels are too low. However if i take 5 htp or tryptophan alone then my depression gets so much worse. It takes a lot of time and experimentation to know what works for you

      5 htp was awful for me when I took it before. That was without l tyrosine. I've worried a little that I'd deplete my serotonin taking the l tyrosine alone... I guess I can do similar if i start to see symptoms of seratonin deficiency. It's interesting.

  • @TheWoundedWarrior
    @TheWoundedWarrior 4 года назад +4

    I prefer to go one step above and take tryptophan personally. Study symptoms individually and put it in one camp or the other. If you are serotonin deficient, then take either tryptophan or 5-htp. If you are dopamine deficient, take tyrosine. Don't take one JUST because you are taking the other. Treatment must be symptom based.
    That being said, one will brake and accelerate the other. You are aiming for a balance but you also need to be taking BOTH amino acids in through your diet anyway or in supplement form.
    You can't put one into the body and starve it of the other one.
    Keep in mind, tyrosine+iodine+selenium is needed for healthy thyroid function. Dopamine deficiency can make you tired but so can an underactive thyroid due to lack of tyrosine/iodine.
    If you are switched on enough, you can actually tell what chemical your brain is seeking.
    Also, beware of sugar foods. These provide a quick hit of brain chemicals so if you are constantly snacking on them. It can be a sign that you are completely amino acid starved. Throw that in with a bad thyroid and it's a recipe for huge weight gain.
    Don't forget, tyrosine in particular can affect heart health and blood pressure as well.
    If in doubt, take them individually, the uptake through your body might be so rapid due to being starved of an amino acid for so long you can experience all sorts of symptoms. In cases like these, take 10-20% of the recommended dose.
    If the effects then work out to be beneficial to you then just take as required. It's like swimming. You'll soon learn how to ride the waves.

    I had wonderful success for about 6 months with 5htp at around 150mg a day. I then started having numb hands, neurological issues and felt very unhappy. I believe it was depleting my dopamine levels as it is slowly improving. I am finding it very hard to balance these isolated nutrients. Thanks for the info. I've been supplementing with both l tyrosine and 5htp for a few months. I must say, it has to be the combo as there is no way one supplement would do this. But it really does make sense. I have learned about catacholamines and l tyrosine will convert to all 3 catacholamines ( dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine) by addd. And 5 htp to l tryptophan or serotonin. I may suggest adding l glutamine to keep glutamate ratios up with the rest of the neurotransmitters and b vitamins which are good for the acetylcholine neurotransmitter. Long story short, stacking these supplements at the right ratio will give ultimate balance

    • @jbuddyman
      @jbuddyman Год назад

      Oh and don't forget l theanine for GABA. Taking gaba on it's own is not useful since it can't cross the blood brain barrier.

      200mg l theanine
      1g l tyrosine
      1000mg or more of all b vitamins
      500mg l glutamine

    5-htp should only be taken in the evening because this is the time the body naturally secretes serotonin and forms melatonin. 5-htp should only be taken on an empty stomach at least 2 hours after last meal. 5-Htp is an amino acid, therefore it competes with other proteins for absorption, to avoid this be sure not to eat within hours of consuming protein. It can be taken with a small amount of carbs (fruit juice or a cracker, or a slice of apple) to aid absorption. Try to find a 5-Htp supplement that has the cofactors vitamin c and vitamin B6, or buy these separately.
    Tyrosine should be taken once in the morning when dopamine is naturally released, also on an empty stomach, with cofactors vitamin C, b-complex, fish oil. You can safely take from 500mg and even up to 8 -10 grams. 10 grams is on the high side, but is still considered safe, but not for extended periods. I would not advise taking 10 grams in one dose.

It was in a book by Patrick Holford and he recommends taking five HTP when you want to chill out and taking L tyrosine when you want energy! He says don’t take them together because they will cancel each other out whether he does say there is a need to take one when you take the other one for the reasons you have mentioned in your fabulous video! Hi Marny. One of the possible causes of bipolar disorder is high dopamine levels. Tyrosine increases dopamine, so you should not take it if you have bipolar. I would look into zinc deficiency, vitamin d deficiency, progesterone deficiency and mthfr genetic weaknesses. I've got videos on all of those imbalances and you can treat the deficiency and this may help bipolar.

Taking 5htp here shouldn't need a boost of dopamine too, however, my DBH gene is also screwed which means my dopa to norep conversion is heavily impaired. My naturopath (who specializes in mental health) prescribed for me, 5-HTP in the PM (to promote sleep) and L-Tyrosine in the AM (natural remedy for treating my ADHD). Makes sense to me -a boost in dopamine first thing to make my day more productive, and a boost in serotonin at night to help relax and encourage sleep. These are not the only supplements I take - just stating in relevance to the video.
    Curious as to why a person with Bipolar dx should not take L-Tyrosine? I am Bipolar and ADHD and am trying the L-Tyrosine as a means to treat my ADHD brain naturally. I feel like if I treat my ADHD and am more productive & focused, I'll avoid the shame spiral that tends to wreak havoc on my moods (therefore treating the Bipolar as well).
