Château Shop & Garage Renovation Part 2 | Queen's Escape

- In this episode, we take you through the second part of our château shop and garage renovation in 2023 & 2024. Early July, we had the new concrete floor made. Then we had the floor painted with epoxy on the entire floor surface. In the late summer it was time to create the workshop counter, and hang up all the tools. Later the good old horse stall doors were removed, and so were the hinges. The design of the cozy area started taking shape, and a couch and a table was added. Finally, after months of waiting, the new door was installed to finish the project. This is the second part of the Château Shop & Garage Renovation. Enjoy the show.

Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

Nice Man Cave! Next a She Shed.😊
Hi Lisa, thanks. Work has already started on Karen’s gym, so you can see more about that when it’s done in the future. Bo
This space is going to be such a game changer for all your future projects. You are such hard workers….wishing you a great season ahead !
Thank you very much! We are slowly getting ready for the busy season. Bo
What a great space and I know Bo will spend many pleasurable hours in there! It's nice enough to live in! Well done! Cheers!
I would most certainly live in there ...cheers from W.A
Loved watching this cement floor project! Had no idea all this was so far along this past year. A dream come true for you two!
Thanks a lot! Bo
The plastic sheeting is a ‘moisture barrier’. Weeds do not typically grow inside of a building unless there is a hole in the roof!
Boy, I hated to see you get rid of that old door that beautiful old door. But it was a keeper as far as I was concerned.
Looks so nice, wish my mechanic husbands garage floor was that clean 😊
😄
the floor of a mans shop needs to be painted brown or grey. its gonna gather dirt as you run in and out with boots full of mud, and branches from trees.
Looks like a proper "Man Cave"! Well done!
Thank you very much. Bo
Bo What a fantastic transformation and what a great space to work in now or just hang out. I absolutely love it. Another job well done!!!! You should be very proud of yourself on getting this completed! Cheers
Hi Eric, thank you very much! Yes it’s very satisfying to walk in there. Bo
Amazing lovely workshop/man cave I am sure Bo will get hours of pleasure in there. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Karen, yes it’s a great space! Bo
What a work of art that workshop is - all from an abandoned horse stable, created with recycled chateau materials.
Bo, if you want to sandblast your walls or ceiling area beams, check the video from The Pethericks. They are renovating their basement kitchen., sandblasting damp iron beams, old walls or wood beams. Amazing transformation .. they also are renovating an old convent.
You're doing great 👍 with projects., Loved the bristish green in workshop.
Hi Jeannie, sandblasting is a good idea, and a very helpful tool to get in and clean up places that are otherwise difficult to access. Since this is not a living space, I didn’t feel the need to do that. Yes, I thought that dark green would look nice in there. Bo
What a fabulous transformation. Well done Bo and everyone who helped. Hope you get lots of time to enjoy it now the weather is getting warmer
Thank you very much Sonia. I will definitely do that. Bo
It took longer than expected but the outcome was worth it. You have your own self designed space to work and use as your man cave. Awesome job. Love the new doors.❤
Finally I see a cement mixer. Lots of the places do wheelbarrows for this.
Hug’s from Canada ❤❤
Thanks for watching Shelby, Bo.
Big transformation. Lots of work but the payoff is huge.
Surprised the worker wasn't wearing knee pads. I think he will feel the consequences down the road.
Hi from South Africa. Love your channel
Thanks for tuning in Audrey and hello back to you! Bo
This is your own Man Cave Bo! It looks great! You have really worked hard on this, so I can imagine the satisfaction you feel. 😊
Thanks Jenifer, yes it’s definitely satisfying to walk in there and start the day. I know where my tools are, and it’s a very nice place to be in, and to take a break of have a drink. Bo
In Canada we call it Block & Tackle. Looking good, great job on the workshop.
Greetings from West Australia.New to your ch. The work seems to never end there. Best of luck with the summer season.
Wow, the garage looks great, a wonderful man cave!! Those doors are beautiful and allow so much more light to come in.
Absolutely correct! Thank you, Bo.
It looks very nice I really like the color you chose to paint the wood with good job
Thanks for sharing the fun video !
What a great door they made you!
Best,
Brian
Thanks Brian! Bo
What a remarkable space you have created. Money well spent. Love the new doors. Bo you and Karen will find many useful ways to use this area. Deborah. North Carolina 😊😊❤❤
Thank you Deborah, and for your ongoing support! Bo
A tremendous renovation project!!!! Just beautiful and functional...love the doors and chandelier!!!!!
Thanks a lot Donna, Bo.
Bo this looks great! I was thinking just a tool workshop, but this is workshop/man cave and is really nice. Those doors are perfect too. Well done!
Thank you very much John. Bo
The garage doors and the interior look great 👍 corrected my mistake lol I was tired 😂
Thank you very much! Bo
The long vertical wall lights look great…..
Thanks Mary, we call them the Star Wars lights. Bo
if you are tryna make this into a fun place to go, you def going to need a woodstove and maybe an AC unit. But its looking more like a mancave than a workshop. Lolz. next you need a huge TV.
Hi David, the Bluetooth speaker is good enough for me. I listen to music out there. Bo
Very nice! I can appreciate the hard work in every detail. Enjoy!!
Thank you very much Esther and greetings to your flying husband. Bo
@@BoSAChristensenThank you! I’ve learned to love the industry through his eyes. I know the life of a commercial pilot is not easy and very admirable. He has been with JetBlue since it’s inception in 1999-2000.
Big job, great result and nice music on this video.
Yes it was a big job. Thank you very much for the help! Bo
I really like the lights on the wall in the garage and the doors are beautiful. The chandelier is a nice touch.
Thanks, I wanted to do something different with those lights on the wall, and it actually gives a very good light. We call them the Star Wars lights. The chandelier gave that chateau touch in there, and makes it very cozy at night fall. Bo
What a beautiful space!
Thank you Louise, Bo.
A MARVELOUS accomplishment. The garage is ready to use 👍👏👏
Thanks a lot! Bo
Great vision. Great execution. Love seeing it completed!
Thanks Nancy, I’m very pleased with the result. Bo
Nice man cave!
Great job Bo
Thank you Jennifer, Bo.
Don’t understand why people buy beautiful old chateaus then turn around and destroy their beauty.
Just like all the people before us, we need the chateau work areas to be functional. And we need a workshop for our needs. It’s a little bit of a French mindset to do the demolition needed to accomplish a task vs. being timid. But as long as we reuse the items, we feel good about it. (our neighbor made a new porch with our old stones that is perfect for gently renovated, very old barn home). We take a gentler approach with the chateau itself. We’re putting an apartment into the rooms next to Bo’s workshop. My father is taking on this project and he’s going to keep a beautiful stone wall in there. Yet it will have modern conveniences like a roll-in shower for wheelchairs. We don’t have that functionality in the chateau, sadly, but want all people to be welcome. So we go for careful balance and functionality as best we can.
Great job on the garage project. Love seeing the projects and progress made.
Thank you very much Elaine. Bo
😊🎉🎉🎉oh wowwwwww, how nice! Great job! Greetings from Guatemala 😊
Hello in Guatemala, thanks a lot! Bo
It may have taken longer than you hoped but it looks great and all the things you wanted are there!
Yes, now it’s nice because it’s done, but it is annoying to wait months, only to find out nothing was done.
Now we have a carpenter we can and will use in the future, cause he gets it done. Bo
Greetings from Brisbane, Australia - Stop calling it a garage, it’s a “Man Cave” 😎
Hello Brisbane, right, man cave :) Bo
Greetings from Louisiana!
Hi Louisiana, thanks for watching! Bo
An amazing success. What a lot of work. Imagine, if you had not done all the prep and created the interior storage and worksurface design yourself. The total bill for renovating this workshop/garage would be very different. You are very neat indeed. Great job!
Hi Sylvia, yes it makes a difference if you can do a little work yourself and thereby save some money. A lot of things can be recycled and used again. Thanks a lot! Bo
Wow. Great progress
Thank you Marilyn, Bo
Looks awesome 👌 😊😊😊
Thank you Angela, Bo.
Hi everyone. Congratulations to your hyde out Bo. It's a perfect place to do some maintenance on your garden tractor in ther if it fits 😉. Best regards to both of you from a Swed in France
Thanks Lars! It’s great to be done with this project. Bo
Looks like you buried some cobbles...Too bad you weren't able to pull them out and use them somewhere else.
I think he really got most of them.
That garage looks amazing!!! Very well done and I’m sure you’re very happy to work in there.
Thanks Kevin, yes it’s great to have this work space now. Bo
You should put some motor in that old Skelton.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Good Zo! Bravo on your new ManCave !
Great work looks tasty done ✔️
I love your newly renovated garage. I would love to have a place that big to work on projects. That building looks to be the same size as our house. Lol..lol.. Kathy USA 🇺🇸
Hi Katherine, the size of that building is 580 square meters, but that includes the upstairs. The garage itself is 64 square meters. Bo
@@BoSAChristensen lol..lol.. well our house is bigger but only 1400 square ft, that's not very big compared to your beautiful Chateau.
Beautiful shop Bo love love ❤❤👏👏🇨🇦
Thank you very much and greetings in Canada, we have family there. Bo

Going to be amazing xxxx
Gem beslagene fra den gamle dør, de kan måske bruges i et senere projekt 😊
Ja, det er muligt. De gamle beslag står i en spand et sted. Bo
🍎 Mr Bo and Karen,
Fantastic, glorious, sunny windy day in our part of the world! Literally!
Mr Bo, great garage makeover! About your old garage doors, since it was part of the stable and has so much history, the small door would have made a fabulous table tennis or ping pong table and the other half could be a gorgeous lunch table. We would not sand them, just clean them thoroughly and wax them so it can keep its original patina not to mention it would look fabulous in your workshop. Did you burn the doors or do you still have them? Or even putting it on a wall with chains on the side as a rack and put beautiful hinges. Or hang it on the ceiling with two very thick metal chainlink chains with a brass chandelier in the middle. You can also use a heavy duty fan when you're sanding and then you don't have to hold the blower to get rid of the dust. My mother always said, never throw away anything because you will regret it until you are 100% sure, because it's going to be someone else's treasure with fabulous ideas about what to do with it.
You can also install two vents with a screen outside so you always have air circulating in your workshop whether it's cold or hot, because if you don't, you will always have problems of moisture in the workshop and the smell of the concrete which is not healthy.
Now it's time to go get some chocolate pear apple crumble pie!
Oh, did I tell you, you look a lot like my husband and he thinks so too! Then again you're both from Denmark, so maybe you're first or second cousins and you have no idea!😊
Cheers to your great workshop! 🌴
Haha, yeah Denmark is so small they’re all second cousins to us :)
No, the old doors were not really part of my plan and are gone. I agree that you can reuse so many things, which we usually do.
Almost everything in the shop is reused. I bought the couch on a brocante. The dark green paint as well.
It is not allowed to install a visible box outside, like an air to air conditioner or heating system. The authorities do not allow such things that will destroy the beauty of the old buildings. All the best, Bo.
@@BoSAChristensen
🍎 Fabulous, little cloudy day in our part of the world! Can you put a vent or two in the roof of the workshop where the county would have to fly over in a helicopter to see it? What are the chances of that? You're the only one that can part a helicopter on top of your roof!
We have found the best solution for moldy smells is to put a small bowl full of baking soda in the corners of the room to absorb the moisture and smell of mold. Also cut up fresh lemon and put it around areas that you can't get rid of smells and it's all natural.
I think you and Karen will love to hear the original singer of the song Mr Bojangles.
Farvel! 🌴

Yayy what a dream space - much work, but so satisfying and useful when done. You will have a great smile on your face as you approach your projects
You’re right about that Patricia! Thanks, Bo
So pleased you used a local carpenter He will do wright by you Bo
Hi Ruth, yes we will continue to work with the mason on other projects in the future. Bo
We call it a “come along”. Great job!
Thanks a lot. Bo
Only thing missing in your fantastic garage is a private Jet 😂
You need a vice 🗜️
Ah you have one 😂
The doors are beautiful x
Thank you very much Carol. Bo
Hi Bo I would have cut it down in half like a dutch door then lift off
❤
