  • We're making a Château Tree House! And here's the first video detailing the DIY construction work done by Bo in the months of June, July and August 2024. Watch as the base construction of the platform and flooring come together. Bo explains the process and all the steps taken in between. Our hope is that in the near future, guests can opt for an elevated chateau stay in our very own Château Tree House!

    Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
    With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

    Every Chateau should have a tree house…just kidding. I think it’ll be a real plus to look out from the front terrace and have a unique garden look. I also understand the need to have various projects to keep up the enthusiasm. My late husband always had to have two or three going at a time…sometimes I was on board and sometimes I’d say …”finish the bathroom before you start something else.” I’m sure with Bo’s expertise this will be a great addition. Love your channel … from PA, USA.

    I love your idea for a tree house but using a dead tree limb to support the base is NOT a good idea. It will continue to rot with an open scar like it has. I think you should get advise from a professional in Washington State USA. His name is Pete Nelson and he does amazing work. Please check him out, you won't regret it!

    🍎Karen and Bo,
    Fabulous, sunny, hot Summer Day!
    Just saw your video with the so cute tree house with a fabulous view of all of your other beautiful trees. That's the happy, good news for your great idea tree house. Now let's sit on top of the tree house and talk about the bad and the ugly for the sake of the beautiful, gigantic tree that you are building the tree house on. Now first, not because a million people are doing something that you like and you want to do the same thing it doesn't mean that it's a good idea. Why? Because the tree is going to be as mad as hell eventually. At the moment right before Fall when they go to sleep to bring you new leaves next year, is going to be a 50/50 or less chance because of the big cut out you have put in the tree to brace the roof. That will shock and stress the tree to its full capacity and because of the tree house, it will shorten enormously the life of the tree. Yes, wood comes from trees, but if you cut them down completely and definitely not to cut into them and expect them to survive for more than 10 years in the rain. Not to mention the bugs will smell the sap even more in the indentions that you have put into the tree and can cause different diseases of the tree especially the leaves because insects especially ants and worms love to lay eggs when they smell the sap of the tree. It's like you're making a supermarket for them to be attracted to the tree because of cutting out indentions in the tree, so it becomes a nest for them. So you'll have to see how this particular tree will react to the stress of a tree house. People that don't know about trees will not think of the harm and the stress that the tree will have, but just think of the idea of how cute the tree house will be. The best idea of a tree house is to build the house separately under the tree, not making huge indentions in the bark of the tree. Because eventually, unfortunately the tree will die. The stump of the tree because it's in the rain will rot a hundred times faster than wood that people cure or treat and use for construction. Not to mention all the insects that love the moisture in the bark and stump of the tree. That's why a tree house tree will only live for a couple years, not another hundred years if you don't build a tree house into it. Can you imagine? Trees live for hundreds or thousands of years in nature when left alone to do their own thing. Thank God for giving us such beautiful trees that we can even build houses out of, but please please please, don't shock, cut or bruise the trees and expect it to be happy and survive. The only cutting trees love is only trimming, not excessive cuts and expect the tree to be happy. The same principal applies to trees, they love to be respected like not harming or hurting the tree. Cheers to Mother Nature and according to my mother, there's also Father Nature! As in good mothers and good fathers!🌴

    Wow the treehouse is going to be amazing Bo! I assume that the platform will keep the tree from moving during a wind storm and keep it supported as well. I look forward to seeing the next video. Thanks for this one! Cheers

    • @BoSAChristensen
      @BoSAChristensen 21 день назад

      Hi Eric, I don’t think anything will stop a tree from moving during a storm. This particular tree is so big that most movement will be in the top, and hardly any in the bottom where I build. The trunk is very thick, so I am not worried about that at all. Stay tuned for more later. Bo

    If is a wonderful tree house! I know it is probably completed but I had a thought- if you can measure how long your peer support (3) braces, think about changing them out to 4-5” diameter trunks of fallen trees on your property. Keep in natural state just wiped down and no branches. It would look amazing! All straight o up & down. Nice rock at base in hole. I have done a few like this and it is very nice. Blending in a distance it looks like the house is floating on the tree. Then you have more cut lumber for projects. Just an observation for your vision.

    • @BoSAChristensen
      @BoSAChristensen 23 дня назад +2

      Hi Deb, that’s a good observation, and also one we talked about during the last 3 months. Once I get to work on the porch down below, and finish it, we will decorate those braces with flowers growing up along them. I actually already bought some pink rose plants for that. We also talked about shaping those braces a bit on the edges in the future, to make them look more fairytale and to fall better into the surroundings. Bo

    Are you guys actually building a load-bearing structure 1 full story off the ground, that you’re going to charge guests to stay at? And the builder is a pilot, not a qualified structural engineer or builder, but a dude who flies planes? And your Mairie is OK with this? Not to mention Batements du France and whatever regulatory body governs Chambre D’Hotes in France?

      Hello Alicia, I’m just building a treehouse. If you want to rent a room, it will be in the Chateau.
      I am talking about what you could do in the tree house in the video, but I don’t have any drawings or specific plans for now. Bo

      @@BoSAChristensen Thanks for the clarification Bo. Some chateau owners have built structures on their property to get around the Chambre d’Hotes 5 room maximum, but some of them seem quite unstable. After all that both of you have gone through to make it a success, I hated the thought that this extra room could backfire for you.
      Great job on the Treehouse BTW💪
