Thank you for doing these videos! I also like to let people know that another quick identifier for the facsimile issue of UF4 is that the barcode box itself goes all the way to the spine. Where on the first print, there is a clear large gap between the barcode box and the spine. From a distance or a quick glance, I feel this actually becomes the quickest way to notice it. But at the very least, it’s an additional point of easy differentiation to be aware of. Definitely hoping the grade date being gone on the cgc data is some sort of technical glitch… Really really hope so but we will def find out in time. Great video!
I was looking up the date for an old label yesterday, and couldn’t see it . That sucks , I look at the years to determine if they’ve have most likely been pressed and cleaned , for a grade bump .
As an old school collector, I never really liked the idea of stabbing *most* comics. I have maybe 20 slabs because the price was better than raw, and I may Crack and CPR them. Every video like this strengthens my resolve
Thanks for another great video. I like how you're letting us know about CGC's mistakes. It makes me wonder what other egregious mistakes CGC has made. Buyers are placing so much trust in CGC when making their purchases, and CGC grades literally thousands of books every day, so it's no surprise that mistakes will be made. However, some mistakes are more forgivable than others. I personally would not like someone looking up my submissions, so I'm not surprised that CGC may take steps to change how they do their cert. numbers.
I noticed the missing date last night and posted on the forums. I called CGC today snd they said it's a software glitch and will be corrected in a couple of days. Let's see.
Recently looked up some of my comics that I got graded quite a while ago, I was curious on how long it had been. Hope they don't change all the older graded books.
I have a similar issue with one of my power rangers books. It has the wrong label. Issue number, authors, and artists are all wrong. I sent it in to get corrected and it was returned with the same wing label. After weeks of back and forth they essentially said "there is no problem get over it" 🙄
Noticed the lack of grading date today lol they need to bring that back. Made picking CPR candidates a little easier at times. Pressing and cleaning is very common now but wasn't crazy popular not all that long ago.
Its called a cover up...Nuff said...Theyre not the same CGC that wanted to be in the comic bus now theyre just a normal leta make a profit with the least amount of effort/spending... Companies add info to gain trust and confidence but this move is to conseal. The recent slabbing date reveals no new actions were taken despite the recent changes CGC claims they gave addressed. I never trust any company that isnt the indusrty leader by default or self proclaimed. These speculators fueled the CGC slab game and it became the unofficial leader. Ill wait til the dust settles and see who will be the leader. It doesnt surprise me CGC has done cover ups in the past, CBCS likely taken over by a private equity? All I know is raws will always sell bc I can inspect it personally unlike a slab
I got juked for $20 on a raw copy of that UF4 reprint. Found it at a comic shop while on vacation and couldn't believe the price. I had no idea it even had a facsimile edition until I went to another shop that had a stack of them for cover price. I was equal parts pissed and embarrassed.
When will comic people stop using CGC. I have stopped grading books with them for almost 2 years now. This is right after I sent them a book that was a good candidate for 9.8 and I got it back with a 8.0 because of a rip they put on the back cover. They are garbage.
I have a slab in my collection that is Marvel Premiere 47 (1st scott lang as antman) and it is a Toybiz reprint, clearly by the back cover which says Toybiz. But CGC slabbed it as the original one, i'm hoping one day CGC slab misprints will be collectible in their own right, lol
Ultimate Fallout Issue #4 - Mark Bagley - 2021 Facsimile Marvel | Nov 1, 2021 Plus the YEAR is also different on the reprint. The real one the date is 2011 first print..
Just as a limited experience comic fan, the only reason I would send in a book that really wasn't worth the value of grading would be to keep it for a sentimental/nostagia reason. I don't know what the membership thing is currently, but I think they used to offer getting at least 1 book graded free with membership fee? So to me that would be the kind of book to use your free submission on - one you want to keep that's just for kicks.
There is a Kickstarter company that is making EXACT reprints of golden age keys, right down to the paper used. In time, someone is going to try to sell them off as originals to unsuspected buyers. Buyer beware!
I truly think you all uncovered a lot of shenanigans and market manipulation from the likes of Goldin Comics (or whichever auction house was getting all the sweet 9.9 grades). CGC's money customers wanted that shut down.
Damaging books in their possession - dropping them on their corners or pressing staples through the book. Books stolen while in their facility. Slabs that are easily tampered with. Insert sleeves bending books. Inconsistent grading for books of different eras and when books of differing grades are submitted together. Different grades for the same book if resubmitted. Now, CGC "graders" (supposedly 3 people look at every book) who don't know the first print for the most common book in the universe. How many times can CGC urinate in the swimming pool and still have people be willing to swim in it?
Could just as easily be a mistake on their part moving to a new system, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt (even though I don't want to haha!) on the grade date missing, but I would like to see a response from them. I too noticed that today without remembering it used to be there before because I was trying to choose between buying a few different copies of a book and wanted to avoid the "bendgate" time period! CBCS doesn't provide this information on their grading notes, but their grading serial numbers start with the year, so it's easier to get a general idea at a glance.
My guess is it's a coding issue. They are probably using a sql server database from which they are translating a data set into an xml format, and then in tern s supplying that to the html page. XML does not care too much when a node set goes missing. guarantee its janky coding
Maybe CGC has noticed the videos where you're sharing your investigative techniques regarding the cert verification. More and more people are learning to do this daily. If CGC were to remove or drastically limit the search function, it would impact our ability to research submissions and discover questionable activity like the submitter who received multiple 9.9s in a single order. I wouldn't be surprised if they change the policy to where you can politely ask for information, but they reserve the right to withhold it for 'security reasons'.
LOL - I'm watching this video on my phone. The image of the book on the Ebay page is about 1" x 0.5" (roughly) on my screen, ... and in the first seconds of this video, I ALREADY know what the problem is. SMH
They mis-label Graphic Fantasy 1 2021 reprints as 1982 & "1st appearance of the Dragon" I've seen at least 10 on ebay (Two on there now under sold, 1 labeled right, one wrong) That could be a cost difference of $25 to $14K! I called them earlier this year to let them know, and the person at CGC could not care less. Just remembered that I did a video on it... ruclips.net/video/-YJK5H-BKjE/видео.html&ab_channel=SilverGoldComics
That's why the cert site was down so long ! They are absolutely smashing any transparency or ability to find out anything about s book or submission . Yet you all still use them . Smh
CGC never fails to disappoint! I’ll be really upset if they get rid of the grade date. That’s super useful information.
Thank you for doing these videos!

Nah, I noticed the same. They don't want people to blacklist these bent books. 😬
Another commenter said they contacted CGC about it and they said it’ll be fixed.
Hopefully that’s correct.
@ oh nice! Thank you!
The barcode is different looking too. The reprint it's against the spine The original it's not.
Blocked that eBay seller, there's no way they didn't know. They saw CGC missed it and posted it as 1st print. They knew they sent in a reprint.
The missing graded date could be to hide from the customer as to how long it's taking to go from grading to out the door.
I was looking up the date for an old label yesterday, and couldn’t see it . That sucks , I look at the years to determine if they’ve have most likely been pressed and cleaned , for a grade bump .
This is exactly the kind of downfall collectors were afraid of when they were bought by Blackrock
As an old school collector, I never really liked the idea of stabbing *most* comics. I have maybe 20 slabs because the price was better than raw, and I may Crack and CPR them. Every video like this strengthens my resolve
Also, the barcode is flushed to the spine on the reprint. The original isn't flushed to the left.

Fingers crossed. Or they’re like…whoops they noticed =)
Not labeling a reprint a reprint is really unbelievable. GCG needs to get their shit together.
I contacted the seller for the UF4 reprint that started this video. I told them 3 days before the auction ended that it was a reprint.
You don't see CBCS with these problems. :) Good video
@jmourgos55 that's just because no one uses them.
CGC just keeps getting worse and worse.
Hey Ryan so check your previous submissions they did take out all cert # on every order i have ever placed
Recently looked up some of my comics that I got graded quite a while ago, I was curious on how long it had been. Hope they don't change all the older graded books.
Sucks… but on a positive note my recent submissions all had graders note on all grades under 9.8
I have a similar issue with one of my power rangers books. It has the wrong label. Issue number, authors, and artists are all wrong. I sent it in to get corrected and it was returned with the same wing label. After weeks of back and forth they essentially said "there is no problem get over it" 🙄

They won't. Too many businesses with influence have too much money invested in CGC slabs to allow the faith in CGC to fall.
Another way to tell UF#4 there is a "gap" in the original and the bar code right along the spine with the facsimile.

Sounds like they are trying to cover up bendgate a bit.

The 340$ sale was legitimate because it was a CGC Error. There's a demand for CGC errors
There is a Kickstarter company that is making EXACT reprints of golden age keys, right down to the paper used. In time, someone is going to try to sell them off as originals to unsuspected buyers. Buyer beware!
White box of the Barcode on the reprint goes right to the edge of the book. The 1st print has a gap

I'm thinking CGC took the grade date out on purpose. Guessing its to protect themselves in case there's more swapping book scandals.
They don't want it to be easy to do research like you do anymore. 😅🎉
Could just as easily be a mistake on their part moving to a new system, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt (even though I don't want to haha!) on the grade date missing, but I would like to see a response from them. They updated the site to say facsimile.

Honestly. Who cares? Send it back. Have them fix it. It's not an AF 15. They make mistakes. The graders are morons.
That's why the cert site was down so long ! They are absolutely smashing any transparency or ability to find out anything about s book or submission . Yet you all still use them . Smh
Submitter probably submitted as 1st print, and CGC did not catch it. Booo to both.
