  • One question that gets asked a lot is What is what does “Frame slop error” mean” on some controllers this same error message is displayed as “Not enough.. Extend space”, or “need more overshooting or larger acceleration”
In This video I hope to explain what it means and how to avoid it. I will also show how to change the x acceleration settings to reduce distance required for engraving, in both LightBurn software and RD Works V8.
At the end I will show a short clip from one of my viewers in Italy who has been converting a K40 machine into something larger with a RDC6432 controller. I show in the video the results before he configured the engraving acceleration. The overswing of the laser was extremely large. The engraving quality was good but with the low acceleration setting the overswing was nearly twice as long as the engraving itself making the engraving take far longer than it should. By adjusting the engraving acceleration we were able to improve this considerably.
The owner of this machine Beltra Maker, an Italian youtube channel, used parts from a K40 laser to build this larger Laser machine, and also installed a Ruida RDC6432G controller, he still has more work to do on it until it is to his satisfaction. I’m sure if you have questions about it you can contact him through his RUclips Channel Bletra maker. / @beltramaker
The good thing about the RuiDa Controllers is that they can be configured in either RD Works or LightBurn software. The setting we are going to change is the engraving acceleration aka SWEEP PARAMETER. This can be found here in RD works on the USER TAB, under PROCESSING, SWEEP PARAMETER. The value we are looking at is the X ACC (Acceleration)
It is important that you READ the information from the controller before you check or adjust settings, and that after making changes WRITE the setting to the controller before testing the changes. Also if you want to back up your settings before making any changes, READ the settings, then Press SAVE to backup your settings for safe keeping.
I have a video on RuiDa Vendor Settings on my channel that describes Configuration of The Vendor Settings for your RuiDa Controller. You can find that video here - [09] RuiDa Controller - Configuration Vendor Tools - RD Works - • [09] RuiDa Controller ...
An important thing to note, is that the acceleration and speed settings for your machine are limited by certain mechanical capabilities and the specifications of your stepper motors, These settings need to be optimized for your machine. Make changes in increments until you are happy with the outcome, and it is recommended to keep a backup of your original settings in the case that you mess them up.
I hope this has been an informative video, If you would like to ask me a question about your machine, email askmatt@mwlaser.com.au If I don’t know the answer I will do my best to find the solution for you and it may be featured in a future Video.

    Thanks for this video
I recently bought a laser and started getting frame slop and found nothing that actually explained why.
    This answers all my questions.

Hi Thank you very much for sharing this. We had an error message of frame scale error yet the area we wanted to laser was in the centre of the bed - why do you think it did that?

SO isn`t it so much 20 000 acc for X axis, because of too much pressure on the stepper motor and driver about the current inside.. and bigger chances for step skipping or repeating ? What X speed acceleration is optimum for photo engraving let`s say? Currently now I am doing with 2000-4000mm/s. Is it a problem if the laser is runnig under the miniimum of 8000 mm/s ? Thanks ( my current problem is that Y axis is skipping or repeating steps - everyhings checked I bet my settings are a mess...) Thanks

Hi Mat. Your videos are always helpful. Is there a way to change the frame where the laser head travels. Some time ago I messed up the travel area and I don’t remember how to make it as it was. I also lost the old settings. I am loosing a good 2” space from the left side and I wish I could reset it. I am using a rudina controller and lightburn software. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Im not sure if you have any tutorials about such a problem. Thankyou

This video may help - ruclips.net/video/WS_Qkimz_CY/видео.html - The settings for the axis length is labeled "breadth" in the Vendor Tools. if you require further assistance or have more questions email - matt@mwlaser.com.au

So embarrassed to say, sometimes I put a fan inside my laser to push smoke down. I jogged the laser to the corner of my drawing in the center of my bed and the laser hit the fan. It started to push it and I hit the emergency stop. I think the machine perceived that as a margin error. The machi e gave me a slop error and has not corrected itself after turning the machine off and on. It won't even travel to the middle of my bed to run the perimeter of the drawing. I'm concerned :( I just got this machine. While your video is great, do you think your instruction will solve my problem? You know what your doing but it's almost information over load. I have a FL1390 40x2in.

Does a higher acceleration have any detrimental effect on the equipment, like increased stresses on the mechanical parts, the head, or the motors?
I am trying to understand why this isn’t set like this by the manufacturers before I jump in and faff around myself and maybe break something 🤣

Thanks for the question. The purpose of this video was to help users with new controllers setup their new upgrade, or to improve upon the current performance of their machines. Many manufacturers setup machines with default settings that can be further optimized. I only recommend changing settings if there is an issue that needs resolving or you're wanting to optimize performance within your machine's capabilities.
As I mentioned in the video description / notes "An important thing to note, is that the acceleration and speed settings for your machine are limited by certain mechanical capabilities and the specifications of your stepper motors, These settings need to be optimized for your machine. Make changes in increments until you are happy with the outcome, and it is recommended to keep a backup of your original settings in the case that you mess them up." Cheers Matt

Hello, I would like your help please, I have a problem with the frame, I press to frame and while it goes normally and then does not stop it goes back home again.

There is an option for return in User Settings (RD Works) you may have this set to return to home / origin.

Since I got the slop error, the machine no longer runs along the y axis. I set it to cut a circle and all it does is run a straight line along the x axis now. Would you know why?

    Thanks

With the limited info you provided, I suggest checking the size of the work does not exceed the X axis size, also Check your starting origin? ruclips.net/video/JuHcEe4fMew/видео.html

how do you set X Y to X 0.00 Y 0.00 in the left hand corner? in ruida my laser keeps going to XY slop error .... it shows I am at X 10000 Y 10000........ I manually reset the laser head putting it up to the right hand corner while the machine is off then moving the head down to left bottom corner while the machine is on... so that it shows the Y is 9500 Y is at 9400 This usually fixed my problem but it is not working anymore...
