Rich, thank you so much for this information! I haven't been able to make use of the full cutting area of my D1 10W without the laser head hitting the frame, even though I used a square during assembly! I'm going to go through the video again (at the laser) and follow your tips. I bet that I'll be a lot happier with the machine afterwards! I appreciate your thoughtfulness!

Well, well, well....you just answered exactly what has been happening on my machine. TOLERANCE in the Size are not the same on ALL lasers. This is something every NEWBIE out there should know about. My Laser head has hits, because the size as advertised only kept pushing the head into rail and yes chattering. What's really an eye opener...the belts on that D1 are like bulls in the china shop...lol. Lightburn says yep that's the size we need....D1 ok...I'll just keep pushing till I get there. Thanks Rich, for putting this video together. It will help a lot of newbies.

I made my old diy frame bigger and had the same issue. I figured out the same way (ish) 😂 great advice
I could not find the small LM switchs i had laying around then i asembled the frame. I use some hard limits on the Y axis (i have procured to be perfect square, my home position is always 0-0 got my bed marked and have a little metal square. I only have to be sure the laser gets powered in the 0-0 xy and its perfect every time)

Thank you for all your videos, they are greatly appreciated, I would definitely do this to my machine when I get home today, I do have two questions for you, 1. How do I activate the "fire" tab in the move screen? Is it not available for the X tool D1? Also another issue I have is when I'm in the middle of a job, burning a tile or whatever and I simply just open another tab on my laptop, search something on line or watch videos on you tube to pass the time, the laser starts slowing down and not firing properly basically messes up the work piece, but as soon as I go back to lightburn it takes a couple seconds but it goes back to normal operation, why is that? As long as lightburn is on the screen somewhere it's fine even in a small corner, but when it's in the background or minimized it doesn't work properly.....ok 3 questions
The fire button is in the Device Settings. I don't know about the power issue... maybe a bad power supply?

I watched your entire video, and a very well explained one indeed. I have the issue of moving out of the corner where it is homed, by framing. when I hit framing, it wants to move into the corner more and then locks up and I have to always turn the machine off and back on again and then it will frame, until it homes again. I even brought my workspace down to 100x100mm and centered it as you said and it keeps locking up. I have the Comgrow Z1 10Watt, and this happens in current user position. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them or if you are able to remote in, we can discuss that as well. Im not sure where to go from here brother, but thought I would check with ya. The one that always got my was the gyro on the Z1. Laser would stop mid-job constantly. Ended up disabling it. Now I just have to watch out for comm errors as the output doesn't turn off for those. 😱

Ever had alarm 3 happen? I can't seem to figure out why my machine stops and say "alarm 3" all of the sudden with no changes to my work space.
Alarm 3 is a reset while in motion. You're likely working in current position and the laser went out of bounds. Use absolute coordinates instead.
I'm new at this with Lightburn. My designs are coming out wide nothing is coming out per my dimensions. Hopefully you can help. Also how do you make a image a line not a fill so I can cutout my image "like a Redfish image but cut out the image". Thank you for your time.

Hey Rich , I need help ...just purchased a laster master 3 ortur. All hooked up, lightburn ready.. so here's the problem I can't engrave letters or pictures ??? It stops in about 15seconds ? So here's the weird part if I make a circle, square, hexagon shape from the light tools on the left hand side within lightburn..it runs fine , doesn't stop , will engrave the shapes, will also fill the shapes, doesn't stop at all ??? I don't understand what's going on ..am I missing a simple setting within lightburn? I need help been at this for 2 days please thank you

hi can someone help please! I have a laser Grbl software with Kentoktool laser400 pro. The laser has been working fine but recently during a burn it will make some beeping sounds, which comes from my Laptop and then it stops midburn! I've wasted so much wood! HELP ME PLEASE.
LaserGRBL has a RUclips channel. Probably best to ask there, though this sounds like a computer issue.
One question: For example, if you call for a 6" x 6" square, does it make a 6" x 6" square? Calibration could be the issue too.

Calibration is done when you first build the laser Glenn. You cut a square, measure it and compare it to the settings in Lightburn. If those settings are off, you simply click Edit --> Machine Settings and then click Calibrate Axis. There you can enter both the size requested and the size it actually cut, if different, and then just write the variance to the controller.

El error 11 significa que se excedió el límite máximo de caracteres por línea de desbordamiento. Lo más probable es que el archivo tenga un formato incorrecto o que la configuración del dispositivo sea incorrecta. Realmente no puedo diagnosticar esto en un texto.

I ran into this problem after installing rotary and the code 9 error started popping up right after that even after rotary taken out. The error occures even when I frame a job or start a job which stops midway due to this error.

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. The strange part is that this issue happens only on MacOS but no problem on Windows. Perhaps I need to operate laser on Windows and carry on.
Hi Rich. I am a newbie to laser engraving and I am having a problem. I have a foxalien 4040xe and when I try to frame a project the gantry moves to the far right and continues to run. I watched this video and did as instructed but still have the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all of your videos and help. Mickey
Does it have a laser/CNC switch? Some CNC machines have the switch hidden in a little cut out on the control box. If not, I would suggest you contact Foxalien Mickey. CNC machines don't operate in positive coordinates like the laser does, and I'm sure they have already gotten hundreds of help requests for this.

Error 8, _(cannot be used unless Grbl is IDLE.)_ can be a lot of things. Usually, it's a bad power supply and the control board is _"browning out"_ during a job. Try running a job at 10% power, if it works, it's a bad power supply. If not, it could be electrical interference from the wiring, like a refrigerator or compressor with a hard start on the same circuit, a bad ground, or a bad USB cable.
Anyone having problems with the xtool d1 working properly with the extension added?
So far only a few complaints that changing the bed size in the Device Settings solved as far as I've heard.

My ortur master 2 pro won't frame. It says alarm:2 G-code motion target exceeds machine travel. Machine position safely retained. Alarm may be unlocked. Right click the devices button to reset the connection. On or near line 3. I am a new laser user. I have no idea what to do other than cry. Please help me.
😢 Press the reset button Treva or just turn it off and then on again. You're probably moving it by hand, so the machine thinks it's in some other position.

My $110 is 18,000 and my $111 is 6000 which of these do I choose for speed?
18000. The X is 18K and the Y is 6K. This is very common, and the laser will default to the 6K when it moves up, which is more than enough. Just remember you can't change the scan angle in the layers to 90° in the Cuts / Layers and expect it to go fast.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy it doesn’t let me put 18,000 in the white space box under basic settings. It only goes to 4 decimal places. I am using inches/minute as my setting.
Well, change it to mm/min, enter that number and then change it back!

Use absolute coordinates. Turn off the laser, move it by hand to the Home position, turn it back on and switch to AC.
