It Rains a while then sun comes out and heats the surface, The hydrostatic pressure from the accumulated water can force its way through the roadway. I'm glad nobody got hurt. On a side note, Did you hear Cleet and Squirrel opened a bodyshop! 🤣🤣
Yes I heard that as well. Their running a special promotion with Bondo ,any car or truck needing body work, includes a free set of coil or leaf springs. Cleetus said " we want your vehicle to ride as nice as it looks".😁😁
Yes And they can put weight to your car as well. But All you have to do is buy the paint and the bondo And they also have a traveling paint Booth they can come to you.
Yes of course but the track and whoever he spoke with saying there was water at or past the 1/8th should have stopped the track and tried to dry it and if still wet called it. You don’t see it and then wait until someone wrecks that’s ridiculous
It was an honor to even been on the same track as some of the biggest legends in the sport! And we made it in your video 🤘 Feeling pretty cool right about now
You can see Clark was mad when he got out the car he was throwing his gloves.....im just glad that you both are ok the vehicle's can be fixed great job everyone
Hang in there Tom. Racing always has its ups and downs, and sometimes the downs seem to go on forever.. But keeping a positive mindset and pushing thru is all you can do. You and Clark are lucky to be safe and sound, and its only your cars you need to fix, and not your bones and internal organs. You guys are safe, and you can live to race again!
So glad Clark and yourself are ok, that's what really counts. Cars can be replaced. We know it gets to you even worse when it's one of your friends. Best wishes and good luck to Clark and yourself from way down here in New Zealand.
Let’s give the EMT’s a hand! The cars hadn’t even stopped moving yet before they were in route!!! He must have been foot braking it waiting to be Johnny on the spot!
I'm always amazed how quickly they respond. I know it's their job and all, but it's hard to stay vigilant all day long watching pair after pair of cars go down the track. 👏
131 has their own ambulance and it's always running with a driver in it when racing is happening. There's a dedicated chute where it is parked to get right on the track. I've seen too many other tracks that fart around and take several minutes to even START moving towards the wreck.
Yunno, glad you’re both ok. This car had been Clark’s ”good old boy” car, he said it’d been 5 years since he’d had it on the road, so there may be some story left there.
That’d be two scary ass rides for Clark, in pretty rapid succession, this year. Waiting to hear Bob’s comments on the Durango… Thinkin’ Duece Box is thinkin’ it’s a old school altered.
Tom, you’re the best. I love what you’re doing with all the drag and drive events. Sorry to see the crash but that’s how it goes sometimes at the drag strip as I know you know. Keep up the great work 🤩
The splitting the pot was best call & safest choice with the moisture on track ! It's great to see Aiden getting back in the groove ! I can only get to one event a year & I choose going to the indy event as it is a week after my birthday even though i'm half way between indy & us-131 So the rest the year it's the yt & frdm+ that we get to enjoy watching the races ! Thanks to all the drivers for there hard work & the huge amount money they put into giving these great events It's very much enjoyable !
That sucked! Two beautiful cars wrecked, but everybody is ok and that's the only thing that matters! I'm glad you and Clark are okay. Nobody to blame here, just the track doing funky stuff. Sad but what can you do? It happens sometimes. That's just the nature of the sport.
As everyone has already said the main thing is everyone is fine. Sad that it happened to two really nice dudes. Happy thing in this all is that it didn’t happen to them when Clarke was in his black car and Tom was in his sick 2.0. Pity that was an awesome paint job on Clarke’s car.
From bumper skids, to a wiring time, and a weekend with " ALL " walking home. Great things happen, but things happen. All said and done. Everyone who enjoyed the cool weekend made it home. Be waiting for great times & loud peddle pounded. Thank you 🤘
It really sucks but you said it best, it's not IF but WHEN it will happen. Sadly, if you drag race long enough something will eventually happen. Been there and done that. I'm just glad you and Clark are both ok. Cars can be fixed.
PLEASE add a couple titanium drag blocks to the back bumper of the Deuce Box, get some sick white spark action on them wheelies! That race between the Durango & Clark's 4th gen was hard to watch, the Durango just starts floating out of nowhere and takes off, nothing anyone could do about that one. I suppose this could be an argument for running pneumatic chutes with a chute button on the steering wheel, but pneumatic chutes have their own quirks & issues too so 6 with one, half-dozen with the other. Glad everyone is OK, hopefully the Durango's damage is mostly superficial at least, shame that the 4th gen will almost certainly need a good bit of front end work. Gotta move on from the incident though, that's just the risk we all take when we lineup for a race.
That's one thing I hate about how drag cars set up the breaking system. Most that run bigs and skinnys set up more break bias to the rear. That works fine when everything goes good. But when there is anything slick, it's going to get sketchy.
Sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully, Clark's car is not hurt too bad and can be fixed quickly. Glad everyone walked away- thankfully the safety stuff did its job.
I hope this event keeps growing and becomes a multi-track tour of the Mitten. We have so many scenic roads and great places to stop in MI. And a bunch of tracks all over the state that could be used. It definitely could become a premier Drag n Drive event.
That is really unfortunate to end a good event like that. Hope Clark is OK. I know the third day after a crash like that is when everything shows up after the adrenaline wears off. On a gooder note the Box Turtle looked really good and solid. Went down straight when the front wheels stayed on the ground. Well done for Aydan. He just needs to get his confidence back. Playin with scared money always looses as my Grandfather always said.
I liked the 3 day event and actually showing “average” cars going down track, i love the tube chassis cars but that white, flat hood, plain looking Camaro was nipping at yalls heels. Cool to see the slow 7-8+ second cars/trucks too because we all started somewhere and i appreciate all ETs as they work hard on their rides too……i had the most fun in the mid/low 7s and was cheaper than low 6s but still drove it to and mostly from the track
Its just the truth. As sad as it may be. Honestly, I wish they wouldnt just let it freaking burn, but its private property they can do whatever the hell they want in my book.
IHRA; All vehicles that exceed 150mph (241kph) must be fitted with a parachute. It is mandatory that the chute is deployed by the end of the speed trap.
I was just sitting here thinking how cool it is seeing cars coming in under the bridge and then feeling a bit silly for thinking that, then you pop up and say how cool it is coming in under the bridge and I just felt immediately better about myself! Thank you Tom. P.s. that Durango is a bad unit.
Man this sucks for 2 great people in this drag and drive community Clark and Tom I know Tom will do what he has to to help Clark with fix n that car or doing a new car sorry guys glad u guys are ok
I'm not a superstitious person by any means but damn... The old Durango has not been very kind to you at all. I understand Tom wanting to perservere through all the setbacks and finally make this car a winner particularly since he and the crew work in spitting distance from Dodge HQ in Auburn. Can't imagine the possible fallout should they decide to abandon the project but... Personally speaking, it might be time to cut your losses and call this thing what it is. Cursed!
You said it best! It’s not if, it’s when! I’ve had my share of things going wrong out of the blue including same scenario with water pushing thru the pavement in the shut down. Fortunately I was able to keep it off the wall but you’re right it’s like hitting black ice out of nowhere! I refuse to race these guys that say never and act all cocky like they’re invincible! If you can’t accept that eventually something will happen then you can’t fully be prepared for the worst! They are the ones who will pin it to win instead of lifting and usually when bad stuff happens to them it’s catastrophic either with injuries or complete loss of car!
In fact we got a guy that runs drag racing safety classes here local and he told us about his journey to respecting safety equipment! He was young and cocky and barely had enough money to build a car let alone splurge on fire suppression, better cage, fire suit or better brakes! He said in his mind that added weight and wasn’t going to make him faster. He remembers two weeks b4 his wreck his dad gave him money to buy a fire suit since he just ran his first seven fifty, he bought bigger nitrous jets and a second bottle! He lost traction at the 1/8th and peddled then got back into and pinned and prayed as he said he crossed the 1/4 beams sideways but still in his lane and that’s all he remembers to this day! His car continued to spin sideways and started rolling a total of 15 times b4 skidding to a stop on the roof! His sub par cage partially collapsed and pinned him in enough that he couldn’t get out on his own! With the car on fire at this time it took longer to get him out and he sustained 3rd degree burns to 50% of his body! After 8 weeks in the hospital he spent another 6 months in physical therapy! He has dedicated the rest of his life to preventing the same from happening to cocky or un educated people, saying it’s human nature for all of us to think it won’t happen to me and everyone that hasn’t been educated about safety or been thru a wreck doesn’t think about it! Tough life lease and was a hard story to hear but cudos to him for trying to make a difference! One last piece of advice he teaches, speak up if you see something at the track that’s unsafe. Better to piss someone off then to stay silent and stand by and watch there worst nightmare unfold! He said he wished his competitor that day had reported him like he threatened for not having a fire suit and updated cage cert for the class he was running!
I liked the 3 day event and actually showing “average” cars going down track, i love the tube chassis cars but that white, flat hood, plain looking Camaro was nipping at yalls heels.
