Steam Deck or Switch which do you prefer??
The Steam deck is literally a portable gaming PC-the first truly viable one for consumers. The Switch...is basically a glorified android tablet running a custom locked down OS. Need I say more?
@@adriandotexe the steamdeck is pretty darn cool
Steam deck is great but a bit too bulky for my taste!
@@aqucmulan it looks a lot bulkier than it really is, but yeah they added a bit too much to it i think
Steam Deck for sure
I played all the switch games I wanted to play on the steam deck and all the pc games I wanted to play on the steam deck, never had an issue with setting up things just follow a few tutorials and it works like a charm. I love this machine. It can really play almost everything from new to old titles. It’s just awesome.
it is a truly wonderful device :)
“The switch came first but the blackberry came first too” barss 😎🔥
imma have everyone make like a banana and split w/ these BARS!!! 🔥🔥🔥
@@MajorPineapple haha let that boy cook!! 😡🔥🔥🔥 but seriously I’ve been enjoying my steam deck since February and you said everything I was thinking in this video but you put it in great words this handheld is amazing and it made me excited for gaming all over again I haven’t been this excited since the ps2, gamecube, and original xbox era keep the content coming you definitely earned a sub from me!
@@roninreef90 HAHAHAHA THATS AWESOME!!! yeah i think i also wanna maybe emulate GC, XBOX, & PS2 on Deck, and dope bro i’m glad you’re liking it so much!
and thanks for the sub & comments bro i appreciate you fr!!
The rog ally is clear of the steamdeck in ever way, that thing is literally a ps4 level jet engine man, so what was that make the steam deck, the iphone 5s? Personally I’d prefer the newest more powerful iphone than the shitty old version, also the blackberry comparison makes no sense because the switch has sold 125 million consoles, the shit deck can barely hit 3😭😭. In my eyes the rog ally is clear and I’m happy that I held off on the shit deck
Well sd is pc handheld. Swich is console with huge fanbase from the last 30 years or so. See a difference? And when it comes to ally. Yeah nice add to the market for sure but asus delivers as they always do. Sd card slots failing because of overheating and stick drift seems to be pretty common + flickering screens.. And we are couple of weeks in after ally launch. Dont look too good atm. Ofc i hope they get everything sorted because it is good for consumers if there is more companys making these things. ✌️
I've never been a big handheld user outside of the Vita. And I have a few fairly beefy PCs. But having a Steam library at over 1700 games and a slight Valve fan, I got my Steam Deck. Ironically not only do I love it, but some games I actually prefer playing on Steam Deck over my PC. Despite the lower resolution screen many games look better than they do on a 144hz monitor also. With the dock it has replaced the tower in my living room and freed it up to be placed dedicated on my Sim setup. This is hands down one of the best portable devices ever made. Valves patience and quality over quantity has paid off in both handheld and VR.
100%!
the steamdeck has completely replaced my Series S, so imma be selling that soon & i replaced it w/ a PS5 also
and agreed i think so many games are a lot more fun on deck rather than PC, it’s also just so easy on the deck
The deck can download while playing a game. That's a Steam setting. Even on PC you can't do that unless you set it in the settings.
yeah i learned how to fix that a few days ago lol my b
you can download games while playing another game, there's a setting in the downloads settings. it is a bummer you can't in sleep but that's just kinda how sleep works on PCs
yeah that’s the biggest bummer about PC
and damn fr my steamdeck paused a download i had while playing a game
@@MajorPineapple you have to turn it on, I think it's off by default. settings>downloads>allow downloads during gameplay
AH.. gonna do that now lol thanks chad!
That has nothing to do with sleep on PCs. For one thing, a sleep mode that allows downloading updates already exists on laptops. Secondly, they could have just have it turn off the display while the downloads continue before it goes to proper sleep. That already works in desktop mode, should have been added to game mode too
Just wanted to say that I love the videos, went through and watched like 10 or so yesterday and loved them all. Keep up the good work brother!!!
i appreciate that my man thank you so much!!
Bro, I've been saying the same thing. It may not be perfect but it has SHOWN that it's possible to get AFFORDABLE PC gaming.... it's opened the doors for future pc handhelds
exactly dude! still some kinks to work out but it’s the start of something wonderful!
Great review thanks for takeing the time bro..
of course! thank you for the comment & view my friend!
Both informational and entertaining. You knocked this video out of the park. Good job dude you got a subscriber.
thank you good sir!! :))))
I 100% agree! The Steam Deck is bringing about innovation on several levels, including extremely fast and progressive Linux gaming adaptation!! Valve is putting in some serious work into Linux and the Steam OS is being updated regularly with new features.
it’s awesome the fact that a device like the steamdeck and others similar to it exist now, it used to just be a fever dream but now it’s reality!
Just picked up the Steam Deck and some games from Steam's summer sale. I have a ton of games on Steam already and the fact that a high-quality 1 TB micro SD card can be bought for $99 getting the Steam Deck on sale was a no-brainer. I even got the official dock. I eventually will get a Switch and I loved how the Switch is keeping physical media alive but I too am looking forward to playing many of my Steam games on the go. What a time to be a gamer. BTW thanks for the tip on that racing game. It looks great! Already downloaded the demo.
that’s awesome dude! yeah the decks a wonderful device and i’m glad you think victory heat rally looks dope!
@@MajorPineapple Also, I never got a PS4 or PS5 so getting Spiderman and Miles Morales while they were on sale was also a must.
There is super easy ways to get the 3rd party apps these days. The steam deck is so stream lined, and community is very helpful ❤
yeah so far that’s what i love most w/ the deck the community is super nice & always wanting to make everyone’s experience a bit better :)
You can hook up multiple controllers on the steam deck too. Only device where you can wirelessly use a PS5, Xbox and Wii U controller on one game with no fuss
bro imagine how dope it’d be playing the steamdeck w/ a wii u gamepad lol
Ok, I love your humour and the obscure references xD
thank you! :))

It's incredible, I really love it, I'm a game developer and programmer and use it as my main workstation PC.
i can totally see why
hell i think the steamdeck is more powerful than my actual laptop hahaha
@@MajorPineappleThe GPU can use up to 8GB in theory, but in the bios I have it set to ....4GB I think? It's pretty insane, great mobility and for showcasing on travel it's a dream.
@@astrahcat1212 dude it is! i haven’t really had much travel experience w/ it yet tho just going on a little vacation w/ it but it definitely came in clutch!
But there's more local multiplayer games on PC than on all consoles combined, and you can just emulate Switch games, so idk why the Steam Deck wouldn't be great for parties
I guess I just speak for my own experience, most of my Switch games are for local multiplayer & my deck/PC games are single player
@@MajorPineapple I tried the party thing, and castle crashes is a really good party experience. It's just much bulkier, especially if you add four controllers and a docking station to the bag. At some point you question yourself why you bring the steam deck if you use neither the screen nor the builtin controller (spoiler, it is because it is the device that you care about with all the games on it). I've also tried the steam deck in the train with one additional controller. It's very much possible, but it is asymmetric. It really is not just play for yourself.
Miles morales has a memory leak issue that builds up the longer you play. Best fix is to set uma buffer to 4gb in the bios and lower in game settings. I beat the game on deck but it was in chunks before crashes.
yo good to know thanks man!

I changed my thermal paste on my Deck and my fans don't kick on nearly as often or at as many rpms.
Yo does that actually work??
I only have like 2 hours to play at my job, so the steam deck is perfect

Weird thing with Miles Morales. I've finished almost the entire game on the Steam Deck and it didn't crash once for me.
that’s sick! thankfully i had already beaten it but it was still just infuriating
Still on the fence about buying it with so many competitors stepping up 🤔 Great video MP!

also. you can download updates and games while playing a game. you just need to enable it in settings under downloads.
yeah i just figured that out the other day lol thanks tho!

i got the same model i’ll do that, thanks dude!
@@MajorPineapple how did you get on? Make a difference?
@@murphy1138 it’s made a pretty noticeable difference thanks dude! :)
May I ask the name of this game at 1:11? Its really similar to a game I used to play.
hey dude! it’s called air attack 2!
I love the deck. I don't have any problems with my battery life, In fact I think it's quite good. I never get battery anxiety when I'm playing unlike some of my other handhelds like my GPD win 3
Yeah steam deck is awesome! The battery isn’t a bid deal for me either but it might be for others. How’s that GDP Win 3 battery btw?
@@MajorPineapple The GPD win 3 sucks with battery life compared to the steam deck. I get battery anxiety when I'm playing but with games that don't require so much juice it can last a good bit.
On average with low settings and some other tweaks I can get 1 1/2 hours on high drain games and 3-4 hours with low drain games.
I still do like the GPD win 3 It's a neat little system.
I mainly use it to run my Windows games and as a little PC
@@mrhow2712 yeah i think one of the coolest things about windows handhelds like that is it also can be used as a typical PC
imagine having a livestream on a Win GDP 3 lol
Try limiting fps to 40 and refreshrate.. Then drop tdp untill you get stutters and then add 1-2w back to the tdp. Games like elden ring suddenly runs 3h+ on battery. Ofc screen brightnes hits battery alot too. And keeping stuff like bluetooth on when not in use will drain little bit aswell. Old tittles can run like 5-6w tdp and most new games run 9-12w. Happy gaming 👍✌️
Oh and ofc this drops temps alot.
Would be so nice if ps5 also could switch x and o...
My deck is quite new and the fans are complete ok. Set up on 40hz and play chill
yeah tbh i don’t even need super high FPS, im even cool w/ 30 tbh
Haha I ran into that with Sonic Adventure 2! You have to click the control option with the touchscreen in order to switch from keyboard to game pad. And that’s when you can press start! Shit got me furious when I couldn’t press start the game! 😂😂
at least i’m not the only one lol why can’t these super old PC ports have some kinda update lol
Because most big Companies don’t care about them anymore, unless they still earn them a lot of money
@@markdebruyn1212 true, i get it it’s just unfortunate
Yeah I agree with the statement that the Deck is a companion piece. It really feels like it was built for those who have an existing steam library, plus the computer know how that comes with building a large library.
It is a dream device for me, because I don't like being locked down to one specific way of doing things.
100% dude! plus can’t you still only buy it if you have an active steam account w/ a few games bought
@@MajorPineapple pretty sure that the owning games already stipulation is gone, but I don't know for sure. My account is over a decade old at this point so I didn't see any of that. ordering one this week after payday, very hype.
@@jkon156 oh that must’ve just been when it was first releasing due to scalpers
and yeah dude absolutely get one!
I disagree, I think another huge market is for those interested in pc games but haven’t yet because they don’t want to shell out the money for a desktop, set up/build a gaming computer and or designate an area for a desktop in their place.
@@steve7814 i think it’s a bit of both - i haven’t really been hankering to play my PC lately but when i wanna play steam games i just boot up my deck!
@MajorPinapple, you can actually change the layout to the switch layout in controller settings.
i love that lol
You can download games whilst playing another, there is a setting in properties that lets you do so for each game individually.
Dont try it with any AAA games, it'll slow the deck wayyyy down.
i saw some comments saying that i fixed it lol
thanks king!!
You deserve much more subs
thank you good sir! :)
Call of Duty Exaggerated Swagger Ops 2..well played sir, you just earned yourself a subscriber.
thank you so much kind sir ;)
Look, I adore the Steam Deck. I'm on my 3rd one since launch. But it is NOT what the iPhone is to smartphones, for example.
It's great! But it's not a console, it's not a portable PC without limitations, it's littered with issues we ALL push to the side because it's so fun & special, but I don't understand how even those of us who love it enough to keep working with Valve to make it better can't just love it for what it is & encourage people to get it anyway, know what I mean?
Edit: a word of warning, while I don't dispute JSAUX as a brand, other docks have also caused RMA issues with multiple Decks since launch. I've had to replace one using an Anker dock (used with the Deck & nothing else, bought brand new), & the Steam "official" Dock is now readily available. The RMA process isn't bad, but issues like suspend mode leaving the system running *inside the case* can be a nightmare. It's still a work-in-progress is all, rather than literally as important to smartphones as the iPhone was or to say "no complaints" as is said here & in other videos, even for other powerusers.
when the iphone first launched it still had issues hell you couldn’t even record videos natively on the thing unless you had an app, and same when the flashlight was a feature & shazam
i already said the steamdeck isn’t a console but a PC, and limitations aren’t as prominent if you’re in desktop mode
good to know about the docks!
I honestly had no idea you could connect the steam deck to a TV… makes a lot of sense 😂
dude it’s so sick - it’s low key replacing everything else i own haha
@@MajorPineappleith emulators, splitscreen games are so fun with the family, and playing older triple a games docked is nuts too, just completed god of war completely docked, at a locked 30 fps, it felt surprisingly smooth on a 50inch tv
Valve's official dock is on sale right now $20 off which comes with an extra charger but you can find 3rd party docks for cheaper if you don't want another charger
Handheld PC gaming is revolutionary and It’s only going to get better it’s exciting.

@@MajorPineapple i see

Ally is dope, it's actually why i got a deck in the first place lol
The reason the deck can't download in sleep mode is due to the x64 processor.
Its not actually a software thing.
Valve said they tried to implement this, but it's just not working.
Arm processors like in phones and the switch, are much, much more capable of sleep mode and general power management
yo that’s good to know, thanks man you rock!
Not sure if it's related to the processor architecture. The reason why phones and the Switch can do stuff while in sleep is because it's not actually sleeping. It's just display off and running some minimal stuff. The SteamDeck does sleep completely, so there runs absolutely nothing.
@@usaydjamil7428 what’s that? letting you download while in sleep?
@@usaydjamil7428 this isn't quite true though. I know m1 laptops have this, and they run on ARM.

@@tech-eddy i’ve never heard of that that’s cool!
I like Nintendo's Apple-like neatness in design philosophy. The switch has an Apple-like feel, but it's not enough and could do better. The Deck is a god send. Gaming computers are inflammatory expensive and I can finally play portable for PC games until I can save up for a future proof gaming laptop. THat laptop will obviously not be so "portable" for a laptop because it will be a big screen, but the Deck remains to be relevant for that lack of portability. Could I get a smaller screen gaming laptop yeah, but the Deck is my Switch for PC games and my actual Switch is my Nintendo both at home (where my PS and Xbox dwell) and on the go, with the Deck.
i do like the Apple-esque nature of the Switch but it makes it feel more like a smartphone rather than a gaming console which kinda bums me out. i love how previous nintendo consoles had music playing and some had themes i wish the Switch had that.
the deck is pretty dog gone swanky, and tbh bro if you’re saving up for a gaming laptop i think it’s better for you to save some more for a proper gaming PC - laptops are cool don’t get me wrong sometimes i prefer them for the portability factor but w/ a real Tower PC you are gonna be able to do & handle so much more, and they have a far longer lifespan too
I hope it can play all my anime and cultured games. ;) I can use the switch for mario, zelda and metroid and this for "everything " else. ;)
hell yeah dawg! i see you are a true man of taste and quality ;)
Very cool video 🔥 if the Steam Deck plays Starfield, it’ll be the Xbox Series S’ demise.
thanks man i appreciate you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
dude the steamdeck is the reason i’m selling my series s lol
it’s a great console & all but for a little more you can get the same thing but portably
i’m also planning on getting a PS5 soon too lol
I wonder how many people actually played their psp more than their playstation 2. These days I spend more time emulating psp games than actually playing any AAA release in my gaming laptop.
Too bad there is no major player in the pocket console business anymore because it could be near perfect in the days of oled displays and game streaming. An 720p oled ds would be insane.
that would be p cool, there’s a microsoft or android phone that straight up looks like a DS and apparently it’s great for emulation
yeah i also have a lot more fun w/ older games than anything new releasing
That's a harsh exagerration when you remember the steam deck wasn't even the first handheld gaming pc that got attention lol

@@MajorPineapple You mean untested. One is a dotted circle with a question mark in it, the other one is a circle with a line through it. one point that people usually forget or don't know about is the true experience when you have it on hand and your point of use. Handheld Console is different from Handheld PC. A lot of differences.
exactly the point i made
Unrelated to the whole video, but Miles Morales is really weird on deck. It works perfectly in handheld but crashes when you boot it in a dock? And Spiderman remastered doesn't have this nor does any other game. Weird af

"WAS the most important", there I fixed it for you. It's already seriously outdated. To me, PC games on the Steam Deck is a novelty at best. I have no desire to play a PC game at a lower framerate AND resolution just because it's portable, that technology has been around for decades, it's called a laptop. It was great a year and a half ago but now it's just meh. The best use of handhelds like this is retro emulation and the Steam Deck is way behind on that and there is no 'Steam Deck 2' in the foreseeable future - if ever.
doing gods work i see
it’s not a novelty, it can come in clutch when you’re away from your PC or when it’s in use but if you actually watched the video you’d know i said that
and the steamdeck is a far more affordable purchase than any decent gaming laptop
steamdeck 2 will most definitely be a thing in the future just not soon
Bah no 😂
que?
Steam deck Is Console... Asus Rog Ally Is heandheald pc
they’re both handheld PC’s friend
Wrong, the ROG ally is
ROG Ally wouldn't exist w/out the deck
The rog is just like those Chinese handhelds that came out before it.
Meh
oof
Switch 2 & Trump 2024
love it
The switch game first AND the rog ally is clear so ehat exactly is the shit deck? The iphone 5s💀💀💀
Wait so, lemme get this straight.. you like the switch & the ROG ally... but not the Steam Deck?
yk for 300$ more than a steam deck is pretty sad that the rog ally has worse battery life, has a worse OS and support from the manufacturer and worse controls while being less comfortable to hold😭💀 enjoy playing eldin ring for 53 mins on the ally
@@adrianoLLLL1827 yeah i hear that ROG Ally battery is cheeks
@@MajorPineapple yeah the verge im pretty sure confirmed they got 53 mins of time played on the ally, the ally is good but i wouldnt call it the successor to the steam deck, but it is the biggest competitor for sure
