    There is often too much emphasis put on the use of HDR, in reality most people don't need it or use it. So to say the OLED is better because it has better HDR is such a huge red herring that will make zero difference to most people. The reality is that 99% of people that play PC games these days play competitive games and play them in SDR mode (This can be confirmed by looking at the most popular games (Apex Legends / Pubg / etc). The HDR mode is rarely touched because it gives very little and certainly no competitive edge. The other key mistake a lot of reviewers often make is that they think people buy these monitors to watch a lot of video content, again this is a misconception, Content is normally consumed through smart TVs these days and so when people have a choice of watching content through a small 27inch monitor or a 65 inch TV its pretty obvious which is the most popular choice. You also have to look at all directions of travel when it comes to technology advancement, yes there are advances in OLED but there are also advancements in IPS technologies too looking at the ULMB technology which has just been added to this monitor through a firmware update and you start to see something that will have significant advantages over OLED monitors.

      OLED is objectively better than any LCD in every single scientific metric with the one exception of 100% white screen brightness.
      TO suggest otherwise is being completely ignorant of technology.
      And we haven't even gotten to things like perfect black uniformity and much much faster G2G response
      OLED will beat any LCD for motion clarity by a mile anyday.
      But due to nature of OLED screens even lower brightness appear much brighter and clearer especially as 10% windows and even 50% of the screen can get impressively bright especially new ones coming with heat sinks and 3 year warranty against burn in like MSI brands.

    • @tuksc

      I think it's a misconception that most people only play competitive, fps games. Contrarily, there is a huge market for high resolution monitors with HDR to play hit games like Helldivers, RDR2, and GTA 6 in the future

    • @ads3453
      @ads3453 3 месяца назад

      @@tuksc to be clear no one said people only play competitive fps games. However looking at the popular games which have player counts to back up their popularity. In recent history at least it’s the competitive games which have tended to be FPS / Third person games which have garnered and maintained popularity (CS2 being a good example) Helldivers 2 was awesome but is dying fast now.

    • @tuksc
      @tuksc 3 месяца назад

      @@ads3453 Absolutely, there is no doubt fps games are the giants in the PC gaming sphere. I just think it's a stretch to say 99% of the playerbase plays only fps-I just wanted to shed some light on the portion of players that are not avid fps players (for example someone that works a 9-5), but still desire a high quality (HDR) experience.
      I myself would roll with an OLED display because even as a competitive fps player, the picture quality is still almost worth it. It just doesn't have the competitive edge just yet.

    Bought this in August 2024 for $740 and I think its amazing. I have not played on a monitor with better clarity. I would love to have OLED but I cannot afford the burn in that I will definitely experience because I use it for work as well.
    It currently has the new firmware with ULMB, and the extreme OD setting is vastly better than what it was before the firmware update.

    I played on XL2546 since two years, I really love the DyAC+ and the huge brightness of this screen even with DyAc+ on. Yesterday I received my VG27AQN and played with it all the evening on Warzone 2 with arround 200 fps. It was crazy good BUT I think ULMB 2.0 make the screen not bright enough FOR ME. Today, I tried without ULMB 2.0 and my GOD with OD on normal AND HOW MY GOD IT S BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT !!!! Huge games with immersive sensations ! 1440 IPS is so beautiful !!! I did not realise any blur problems without ULMB 2.0 THIS SCREEN with top end PC is SOOO GOOOD, I AM GONNA PLAY WAY TOO MUCH AND LOSE MY JOB 🤣🤣🤣😘

      I’ve used the Asus AQN (360hz IPS) and AQDM (240hz OLED) now for roughly a month, on a 4090; mainly with a game that I can hit 360 fps (Midair 2). They were extremely close, but I went with the AQN. The level of clarity that ULMB2 provides really closes the gap between the IPS/360hz and the OLED/240hz, but it's really neck and neck. Adding the backlight strobing to the AQN is a game-changer, but only if you value those extra 120 fps. If you 1. Own an AMD GPU, 2. Play games that don't hit 360 fps and are more graphics-focused, or 3. Consume content and don't require a display that can calibrate under 1 ΔE - I'd say the OLED is a no-brainer. If you mostly play one specific game, that hits a sustained 360 fps, and you value the ability to calibrate a monitor easily, I'd say the IPS is superior. But these are all on the margins. Both displays are absolutely insane! (One note: I don't know if this is true on the LG, but on the Asus OLED, if you tend to toggle between inputs, the software/menu system on the AQDM is maddeningly slow to respond - they definitely need to push out a firmware update to fix it. It's really bad.)

    No HDMI 2.1 = no interest.
    DP 1.4 simply doesn't have the bandwidth for 1440p @360hz, meaning that DSC (display stream compression) will be active and adding a slight amount of input latency. And at this price that's simply a deal-breaker.

      I mean to be Frank with you, I get why HDMI is important, but the input lag added from DP 1.4 compared to HDMI 2.1 is literally…. *irrelevant*
      But otherwise, yes for the price could it be better, of course. To my point early about the dimming zones(something that would actually elevate the performance/usability to the next level) it would also *increase the price* to the next level as well 🤣

    Reason Asus doesn't include ELMB Sync is simple, Nvidia hardware Gsync module. No Nvidia hardware Gsync module supports ELMB sync or ELMB, Only ULMB and ONLY when nvidia says it's ok. Notice Asus is releasing a new 300 hz QHD IPS monitor that DOES have ELMB Sync because it's Gsync compatible/freesync. No nvidia Gsync module = more features, nvidia does this to produce a consistent experience across it's lineup of certified hardware Gsync module displays.

      @Phil agreed Sadly, it currently doesn't work with any refresh lower than 360 hz and it doesn't work with gsync so you'll get vsync lag unless you have a system with enough chops to do double the native refresh (720 fps) in order for the strobe to look good

    • @Phil_529
      @Phil_529 Год назад

      @@eddi3x3 It works at 120hz and 240hz as well. Also you don't need double the framerate. You just need to be able keep above whatever you're using ULMB at (120hz, 240hz or 360hz).

    But due to nature of OLED screens even lower brightness appear much brighter and clearer especially as 10% windows and even 50% of the screen can get impressively bright especially new ones coming with heat sinks and 3 year warranty against burn in like MSI brands...
