The question isn’t so much if it is a good camera, but whether or not you are a good photographer. Once you adjust your way of seeing to the potential and limitations of the instax wide, the results become genuinely interesting.
I've been venturing into film photography more lately, and it seems a bit odd that instant cameras are considered to be these novel-instant-gratification-machines. I've found them to be a sort of "instant permanence;" as you'll never get the same shot twice and you can't reshoot or adjust in post, so every frame is fairly special, no matter how bad. That said, this is coming from a car guy who's probably more used to thinking of inanimate objects as having "souls" than most other people...
let’s say it’s a sunny day should we do like dark exposure or if it’s a muggy/cloudy day should we do light exposure? or just let the camera do it’s thing
Great review and nice tips. I have this camera but I've neglected over the last 2 years because I think I've been using it in the less-than-ideal conditions you mentioned. I have an SX-70 too, but I think the rollers need maintenance. In any case, this makes me want to take the instax wide out again to give it another shot
@@metalfingersfilm that's the problem, there isn't much choice. Don't want flash? then Lomo Instant, don't want the lens flares and lomo softness? Then a fuji instax 500af but $$ (good condition early 2000's JP import). Don't want to deal with all that ebay crap? then get a new RX70 but it's $$$ and it has dithering problems, the rollers sometime scratch the print, it has trouble counting 10 slides, the dark slide can get stuck inside the camera, and more $ for proprietary ND filters. It's a minefield.
Interesting video. Instant cameras have come a long way in the last 30 years! This latest camera from Fuji improves the options for people interested in instant photography. Hypothetically, Fuji could improve the camera even further. Though this would undoubtedly increase the price. What sort of extras would appeal to users and potential buyers?
I'm shooting with the Instax 100 (wide), the only thing I don't have that the 300 does is the close up lens converter. It is a shame Fuji hasn't tried to improve the image quality out of the lens on the newer models (unless it's not the lens but the film that lacks the sharpness?). Maybe I expect too much.
Great tips! I have this Fujifilm Instax wide 300 and my photos are coming out Blue regardless of the brightness adjustments or flash usage… I’ve tried indoors and outdoors and they’re still very blue, what am I doing wrong?? Please help 🙏🏼
Have you had any issues with keeping the horizon level shooting landscapes? I try to hold the camera level but in some pictures the horizon runs downward from left to right.
Are you using a special film or anything to achieve that retro, dust scarred look on some of your photos or do they just come out like that when using this camera?
I, for some reason, cannot shoot with this camera without the images coming out blurry. The mini works great for me but I CANNOT master this one and I can’t figure out why. Maybe I’m too close to my subjects? Idk.
The shots look great with a dreamy retro feel that digital can replicate but not as perfectly as film creates

totally depends on how bright or overcast, I would try some test shot for yourself and see! :)

Can’t turn off flash, isn’t it a deal breaker? Cover it with tape? So Lomo Instant Wide then, but to me that lens is too ‘lomo’ soft like.

@Money Moves If you look at some of the glass lens Polaroid camera of years ago the image quality was quite good.

I guess it also explains why it has an easier time to keep things in focus than the Polaroids.
