Restoring an Old Cabin Door Start to Finish (No Music)

  • In this restoration project video, I restore an old true 2" cedar door. I acquired the door from my friend Al aka DB Cooper (seen in my previous video about his life living off grid for 46 years, and on episodes of The Adventure Agents on RUclips). I restored the door through a process of sanding the wood, re-painting the metal, replacing the handles, making a custom tree cutout for the window insert, and reframing the opening for the door at my off grid cabin.
    Thanks for watching!

    Here is what I have learned Diego: You will never apease everyone. Your videos are not about apeasing everyone. They are educational, entertainment and how YOU do it or try to whether success or failure - for education and other positive purposes. If someone doesn't like something you do they are, as you said, welcome to point it out in a comment They can also stop watching your videos. Then there are the "keyboard warriors" that think they need to point out and police everyone. Those are the ones that you find are hypocritical and don't even know it. Just think on that a moment. Yeah, conrol freaks that can't control their own lives. Keep the videos coming and do NOT over think about trolls/haters. Nice job on the door! Take care, tell AL hi for me!

    I love your videos. Thanks so much for inspiring us. I missed this on your first video. In your video of you cutting the longer pieces of wood on your table saw, you had your chop saw and table extension out and the roller up. So I was thinking that on my stand, you can pull out the roller and spin it around to use it as a roller for your longer cuts on your table saw. Just a thought. Keep up the amazing work. Have the greatest day ever, filled with love and peace.

    I love that door. My uncle built a cabin that had really wide cedar planks. It was beautiful and made with pride. PS: I hope you clean that cut and put some Neosporin on. That usually keeps infections at bay. Thanks for another great video. ps: can’t wait for more bio of Al. His story is amazing and he’s just a really cool gentleman.

    I remember when Al gave you that door, You have done epic work restoring it, Hope Als gets to see it. Love that you put the rope in-between the boards , awesome touch with the tree in the centre as well makes the old door stand out. Have to love when projects turn out as good as this restoration. Fantastic work Diego ! Have to love antiques. Watching from Ontario Canada .

    I love that door. If you stain the handles and the trees and the frame around the tree I think it would look even better. New subscriber here. I found your channel today and have already been binge watching for hours.

    I absolutely love all the touches you did on the door. It's very similar to how I have learned to build my trailers. Figure it all out piece by piece. I love the way it came out. Amazing work! There is nothing like woodworking. It's so satisfying when you build things to last!!

    I have watched a great deal of vids…..bushcraft, construction, etc. Quite truthfully, the best ones are silent….no music, no talking. A picture is worth a thousand words, for sure. Perhaps an audio piece of intro, and what you plan to do, that's all you need ……I think. Peace, Rob

    Awesome door! But you should've sealed the top and bottom where you cut, the end grain absorbs water much more than the faces, but it is cedar, which is fairly weather resistant. Good job though looks great!

    it wouldnt be ideal to have an external only latch because then if you're inside it could be latched which would make using that door immediately problematic from the inside. If you have two doors it's not really an entrac/exit concern but it's still not great.

    • @legit4506
      @legit4506 4 месяца назад

      I agree. Doesn’t seem ideal to have to manually latch it every time you go in and out just for it to stay closed

    Sucks about your thumb. I did it once when I was 18 and wore gloves ever since then. I never do anything without my gloves.
