Well well. I listened/watched this with my Good Lady. She was 100% sure that the Mogul sounded the best. I was convinced that I'd vote for the 37, but as it happened, on the day, I had to agree with The Mrs. So 2 votes for the Mogul, please (she's Englisg & I'm Welsh, BTW...) And Matt: Ive really enjoyed this mini-series. Very innovative!
As I said, you can't beat the sight and sounds of God's Wonderful Railway. The GWR Mogul wins rods down, she has the classic sharp bark and Swindon whistle. So much nicer to listen to than the stinky 37, any day. Not everyone will agree, but the Mogul wins for me. She's music to my ears, I could listen to and watch her all day long.
I think it has to be the 37 for consistancy of sound. The Mogul, if you listen carefully when it starts off before building up speed sounds like it's saying " I passed the test-I passed the test..." nice video Matt...
Unfair comparison. I’ve never been impressed with decoder steam sounds on any locomotive. It’s hard to replicate. Although your Mogul was okay, I have to vote for the 37. Thanks Matt!
Class 37 diesel loco and I think a railtour video involving the 37 brining a train up from London then a steam loco like the A4 with sound taking over like LSL's trains with a full rake of Blood & Custard stock
An overall good mini series here Matt, to me there Isn’t a definitive winner, both locos sounded pretty good to me when they were running round the layout, steam locomotive sounds is something I want to look at, currently the only sound fitted model I have is my 158 from Bachmann and that was fitted very recently.
A very difficult decision to make between the class 37 and the steam locomotive as they both have fantastic sounds however there only one clear 🏆 Winner and it's the intercity Class 37 especially when you turn up the volume. I did also spot the N Gauge locomotive on a flat bed.
Oh, so, well it has to be the diesel loco every time. Basically I think there is an issue with steam sound decoders in that you can't replicate the action of altering the cut off of the valve travel, which alters the sound enormously as the loco accelerates. I remember an interview with Pete Waterman on his Leamington layout where he said you can't replicate the volume of smoke and steam going up the chimney with a tiny speaker you get in a model. This isn't an issue with diesel locos as the size of a diesel exhaust is tiny compared to the steam loco....................So diesel it is for me.
Both are great sounding models. Both win in my eyes.

Rods down: love it!
Love the 37.

I still think the Deltic should have won but it'll have to be the 37 out of these two
37 Matt.
I think the Class 37 sounds better.
