Andy Rawls and bob from "I like to make stuff" is far my most fav woodworking channels in RUclips. Bob being the talkative guy and Andy as the silent one
From many years of experience and replacing hundreds of chisel handles, I can say with experience that a couple of sets of large dovetails or mortises will demand the end of that handle be rounded and not faceted. Very nice job on the old Stanley. Steve
I absolutely love these videos! Theyre so high quality which makes them pleasing to watch and everything is just so entertaining. I cant wait to see more when they come 😍
Very cool, love bringing the glory back to a old tool. Thought it was interesting how you made a new handle, and funny that we use the some oil for our wooden spoons.
Can't think of the magazine but this reminded me of the section"Wordless Workshop" on steroids. Great craftsmanship, camera placement, and editing! A picture, I mean a video, is worth a thousand words.
Restoring tools is starting to become a hobby of mine I just finished restoring an old sears and Roebuck 6 inch jointer and I had a blast! Looking forward to your next video!!!
Dang! I thought it was sharp when it cut the paper, but when you had it chirping the wood... I was never a fan of grinding wheels as I didn't want a convex shape, but as you used that to rough it out then moved to the stones, you've changed my mind.
My grandpa made mesquite furniture in Sabinal, Texas. I’m from Concan area. I used to know but I cannot remember what holding sawdust on the wood that you just worked on while it’s still spinning. Can someone remind me?
Glad to see you bring it back to life, I hate seeing one being abused ! Was that just water that you were using on the stones? Thanks for sharing and take care.
Impressive sharpening job with stones. I personally use a minimum of 28 japanes oil stones for a start and finish off with tooth paste on a soft brush..
Just an idea if you want to add commentary on what you're doing throughout - do like the Primitive Technology RUclips dude. Don't talk during, but use the closed captions to add little blurbs about what exactly you're doing. Could be neat for comments about what grain sandpaper, why you're doing something, etc.
I have the exact same calipers you used in the video. Mine doesn't have any markings on it and was wondering if you know the name of the manufacturer. 5:00
Andy Rawls. I am getting into wood working thoroughly enjoy your content. Excellent job! Since I am beginner, what sharpening stones/grit are you using in this video? I live in Temple, TX. I have Home Depot, Lowes, etc near me. Any help would be appreciated.
A fine piece of work, curious halfway through the video the wood looks completely different and light in colour then at the end it's dark again. Did you make 2 handles?
I have two two inch slicks now. Let's just say they're a lot longer than what I'm seeing here. One the overall length of chisel and socket is over a foot. My other one is about a foot even socket and chisel. That's not the handle just the metal. So that's apparently the size they were made. The one here must have gotten ground to death in its lifetime. You bought a stubby nubbin of a chisel. They saw you coming at $17.50 too. I paid $5 for the first one I got and got the second with a handful of tools for $3. So I paid maybe a buck for it? It doesn't have a handle though. I bought a shovel last week that I'm going to cut up and make a handle out of its handle. I paid a buck for the shovel.
Like all your projects: pure, simple, and brilliant. Great film work and you certainly honored that old tool.

Lucky Dog, that is one sweet chisel. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

I love that you gave new life to that old tool. Fantastic for $20!
Very nice. I'm learning so much from guys like you on RUclips.
Excellent job, gratifying to see an old tool brought back to usefulness. Thanks for the video
I absolutely love these videos! Theyre so high quality which makes them pleasing to watch and everything is just so entertaining. I cant wait to see more when they come 😍
The one thing I noticed the most out of this amazing video was that beautiful ring you had on. I would absoloutley love to have one just like it.
I see you showing off that bench, Andy...and i like it!
Thats a beautiful chisel

Greg Mather handyman magazine.
Beautiful work Andy turned out great.
Your channel inspires me to make stuff right now I'm making a wooden chair out of an old oak from my yard. Keep it up !
Your loving the dream alright. Well done. Love the wine glass rack!!
Well done. I like the set up of your work shop
I really love your videos, you should film more
Awesome stuff. Gotta love a 2" chisel
Restoring tools is starting to become a hobby of mine I just finished restoring an old sears and Roebuck 6 inch jointer and I had a blast! Looking forward to your next video!!!
You do great work. I love your videos. Keep it up.
Keep the videos flowing man, I can't get enough! Hopefully one day I'll be as good as you in this trade
Great video. Great save. I love 2 inch wide chisels.
+Freddy Roman Thanks Freddy! I always enjoying seeing your work on Instagram
Thanks. This was highly relevant and useful for me.
Great video! Great chisel!
This video is like ASMR to me. So cool!
awesome work! I'd love to see a project where you burn wood while on the lathe. I use a small steel wire and it looks awesome on all my projects.
Very nice I need to find a $20 chisel like that
Dang Andy, Cibolo Creek! That’s my long time old friend’s brewery! Great people. Nice work, and I look forward to the new direction of the channel.
+Seth Grueneberg Awesome! I love that place...built their bar top last year.
This video reminds me of the good old DiResta videos. I guess you have taken over his beloved place in my subscription list now 😂❤️
ASMR for Wood and Metallworker.
Keep on the good Work 👍
Looks amazing
Dang! I thought it was sharp when it cut the paper, but when you had it chirping the wood... I was never a fan of grinding wheels as I didn't want a convex shape, but as you used that to rough it out then moved to the stones, you've changed my mind.
Nicely done.
I love these kind of vids
Very good job 👋👋
Burnished the handle. Love it!
that was just amazing
Cool part for me? I have the exact same Delta Iron Bed. Your work is amazing.
+EddyGurge thanks!
You did that thing on the lathe that Norm Abrams used to do, with the sawdust.
Nice work
I like the subtitles/typed comments.
Nice job
You're very talented
Beautiful
Good steel !!!
My grandpa made mesquite furniture in Sabinal, Texas. I’m from Concan area. I used to know but I cannot remember what holding sawdust on the wood that you just worked on while it’s still spinning. Can someone remind me?
Bi just found an older chisel to work on and know I have something to go by for restoring it.
I wonder why you used the drawknife to round the end of the handle instead of the lathe...great video!
Good job
good vid.
Awesome, but I was waiting to the handle to be "glued" in some way, and all the way in. Those last 2mm were a pain to watch for my OCD
Love it!
Is it ever necessary to redo the heat treat on a tool like that?
I, too, lost my voice in a tragic tablesaw accident. Stay strong. And great videos, BTW.
Kevin Almeyda I’m pretty sure he didn’t lose his voice, he just doesn’t talk
Whatever you say Poop John 1
He has voice...
Poop John 1 Im pretty sure it was a joke...
Kevin Almeyda is it really?
6:30 What does the sawdust do exactly ?
It kinda polishes the wood a little and removes the dust embedded in the fibers.
The shavings burnish the wood. Smooths thing out
Why rub saw dust/ shavings on the handle why it was on the lathe?
I wish I had woodshop at my school.
Glad to see you bring it back to life, I hate seeing one being abused !
Was that just water that you were using on the stones?
Thanks for sharing and take care.
Damn that’s sick
Restoration...could be a parable....
Amazing!!!
TRUE!!!!
SZÍVEMBŐL SZÓLTÁL
AHOGY MONDOD GÁBOR!! NAGYON IGAZ
What was the purpose of rubbing sawdust on the handle while it was in the lathe?
Its called burnishing, im pretty sure it just enhances the color
what is the degree of the bevel on the edge. what, in your opinion is the best angle for these kinds of chisels?
Impressive sharpening job with stones. I personally use a minimum of 28 japanes oil stones for a start and finish off with tooth paste on a soft brush..
Hey Andy. I'm just starting to get into woodworking and was wondering if you had a link to the sharpening stones you use.
+Random_Precision I'll put it in my description
I dig it.
Awesome!
Andy, where can I have the sharpening stones used in your video please? Thanks...
+Fred Creole Native for the Chicago Starr stones I think we'd DMT diamond stones and fit the finer honing I used Shapton ceramic stones
I put a ink in my description to the stones I use
you're the boss!!!
ever try using a funnel with sand paper inside for chamfer

+Drew Mayes I might try that...thanks for the suggestion
Sweet work. Thanks for posting.
Hello, great job, but why do you use 4 sharpeners? What is the difference between them and the work of each of them?
I have the exact same calipers
you used in the video. Mine doesn't have any markings on it and was wondering if you know the name of the manufacturer. 5:00
You should do more restoring vids
Yes. Says it all
Hey I think it will be cool if you make a stepping stole with only using hand tools and no power tools
Sweet!
Pleasure to watch as usual.
What kind of stones are the first two?
+Stefan Wolf diamond stones
Andy Rawls thanks
Nice.
Some people in the comments asking what that paper was, and here I'm like "Have you guys ever heard of sandpaper before!?"
Where did you get your sharpening set?
Why are you putting wood shavings on the handle as it spins? Just curious.
Andy Rawls. I am getting into wood working thoroughly enjoy your content. Excellent job! Since I am beginner, what sharpening stones/grit are you using in this video? I live in Temple, TX. I have Home Depot, Lowes, etc near me. Any help would be appreciated.
Ryan Euer Strongly suggest you look elsewhere for training videos, not great skills. Try Paul Sellers. Just saying.
Just wondering what solution you are using on your wet stones? Is that just water in an oil bottle?
A fine piece of work, curious halfway through the video the wood looks completely different and light in colour then at the end it's dark again. Did you make 2 handles?
+ouagadougou62 thanks! there's the original handle that looked old with a leather top then the new one I made from walnut.
got the same one, 2inch chisel by Marples in sedalia mo 2 nd hand shop
What type of sharpening stones do you use? I'm looking for a good set. The ones you used looked to do a great job. Your one of my favorite channels!
What was that white paper was it ordinary paper
Can you make more wood turning stuff i like that.
What sharpening stones?
Styl X it's all in the description ✌

What grits are your stones?
The Diamond stones are coarse and medium. The Shapton stones are #2000 and #5000. There's a link in my description to the stones. Thanks
You should do a "q and a"
You should make a gun rack for demolition ranch (I saw the little colaberation with you guys on his channel)

You should make a wooden horse for your daughter. That's be cool to see
We should see mote of that lathe
Hey man you need to wear a dust mask when grinding on metal. The dust is just as bad or worse than dust from woodworking
