    I did something similar to this with my SKX. I instead used an old 4R35 from a Seiko that got pretty beat up. I then transferred the calendar wheel, pinion and plastic gear from the 7S over to the 4R35 effectively making it a 4R36 with a weekday wheel. Unfortunately I still cannot get the Bezel to stay on. I even tried a crystal times bezel and it just gets stuck. I also put in a sapphire crystal.

    Funny, I recently noticed my old Seiko 5 is in rough shape so my first thought was "maybe I can throw a NH36 in there! Will it fit?" and here I am haha RUclips is a beautiful thing! I rarely wear the old Seiko 5, but my father gave it to me, so I would prefer to keep it in good working order. And hacking would be a nice addition! I really don't care for that 7S26 movement at all.. It always kept good time, but when you can buy a fake Rolex POS (crappy skeleton watch that has "Rolex" on the dial) from some sketchy vender in Guatemala for like $15, that has hacking and keeps perfect time! It really makes you look a little differently at your Seiko 5 with the 7S26 haha
    Seriously that crappy "Rolex" with the super cheap skeleton movement has no right being as good as it is. I got it for the novelty. So I set it, wound it up and set it down for a day, came back and checked it out and it was still dead on.. I was surprised right then. So I threw it in my back pack and when I got back to the states I put it on my timegrapher, the beat error was pretty much non-existent and it was +2 seconds a day! The stupid thing is ridiculous. It has to be a fluke. I still won't wear the ugly cheap feeling thing, but it'll never not surprise me haha

      If you spend around 800 you can get a super clone Rolex with a ETA movement that you can switch anytime instead of paying silly price for service . Quality of finish is amazing even the semi-invisible etching on the crystal , took me half a hour with iPhone magnifier to find it.

    Thanks for the video; I have a watch with a 7S26 that needs a service or new movement. I’ve made a few watches from parts and simple movement swaps, but the C clip removal and day/date wheel swap is a bit daunting to me. It’s a 3 o’clock date and crown so I might be lucky

    Thank you for yor vídeo. It's a pity you don't have recorded all the operations.
    I want to swap the 7s25 movemet (no weekday) from a vintage Seiko Samurai (better functions, and now is not working properly).
    I was afraid about if the hands tube would be the same size in both movements. It looks it is.
    I hope I'll be lucky cutting the stem....😅
    Using the dremel, I cant see if you cut the stem, or just sand it, to the right size.
    Of course, I want to use the original Samura''s crown. Do you think this will be possible?.
    Trying to buy the NH35 movement... Do you have any links that could be useful?. I've seen them in AliExpress, and I think they will be right.
    What I don't know where to buy is the crown an the stem. Dou yo have links where to buy them?
    Thank you very much, for your help.

    • @SillyVintageWatches
      @SillyVintageWatches  10 месяцев назад

      Hi, and thanks for your comment! 7s25 & 7s26 are basically the same movement, except that 7s25 has just the date instead of the day-date. All measurements should be the same. The stem, I actually sanded it mostly. You can cut a big chunk off at the beginning, but after that, you have to go in small steps anyway, so it's wise to sand it down.
      I can't tell you much about the crown. I would think that the stem is the same, and you can just reuse it as is. But that is also something you can easily check yourself. If it works, it works. Feel free to tell me if that worked!

    At 1:35 you say the NH36 crown and stem are a single unit and cannot be fit or exchanged to the new movement. I can't make sense of this since the NH36 IS the new movement so why wouldn't they fit the movement they came with? Did you mean to say 7s26 crown and stem?

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 6 месяцев назад +1

      How I'm hearing that they aren't a unit. You just have heat the inside of the crown to soften the thread locker and the crown comes off. This from people who have done it.@@SillyVintageWatches Edit: This was apparently true at one time. I think it may not be true with later watches. I tried today and couldn't get mine off.

    Why are you swapping the day of the week dial too?

    • @SillyVintageWatches
      @SillyVintageWatches  11 месяцев назад

      NH36 movements can be bought with a day disc design for a 3:00 or 4:30 crown position. Depending on the movement and the new case it is for, the day disc would not be aligned with the window in the dial. Also, I believe the position of the crown changed slightly from the SKX to newer models, that's why the day disc of a NH36 would not be aligned with an old SKX case. If I am wrong here, please correct me. :-)

    hand winding is just a stupid desire when you dont have it. then when you do have it you never use it. i can tell you for 100% certainty that using hand winding on a watch with a screw down crown is completely silly, you will never use it - becase its just a faff to get the crown out. just to or 3 shakes is enough to get the watch wound, set the time and put it on your wrist - it's going to keep charge and keep time.
    I have original condition skx and i decided to keep it original, i use nh movements on full builds, but keep my seikos in original condition.
