Cels always look prettier than digital paint. You get a more handmade feeling.
You kids and your animation cels. When I was you age we had to use stone tablets to make our cartoons.
@@MrParkerman6 You kids and your drawing sticks, back in my day we had writing feathers
It's nice to look at. Not very nice to put together into video form tho :v
A Writing Stick!
Yea but it's more hard to preserve if you don't have the right stuff.
I'd frame those suckers! These finds are. .. "ex-cell-ent"!
😂
I like seeing the technical side behind this stuff.
Me: *watches one michelle phan gift videos about animation cells*
RUclips: *recommends me animation cell videos ACTIVELY that never popped up in my feed NOT once prior to michelle*
This is exactly what happened to me
Felt this comment
Its actually spelt a cel, one L. Its short for cellophane.
literally me rn
I ❤️ Hand-cel Animation . And this Video proves the work of it.
I miss traditional animation it looked so much better than flash 😢
BeanBag343 you’re crazy 😂😂
BeanBag343 me too bro... ❄️
It depends really does it? Like I prefer spiderverce than most of the old cartoons tbh
BeanBag343 I'm sick of CGI everything
@Henrystrikesback Couldn't have said it better myself
"wow this stuff is 20 years old!"
*flicks paper hard*
Everytime you upload a video!!! Nostalgia!!!😁
MrParkerman6 Stop overthinking
You are such a big idiot...
@@MrParkerman6 My son really longs for the OG 03 Teen Titans to come back
I love old school Animation
So Awesome! I remember the Oh Yeah! Cartoons very well. My fondest memory was Jorgan's "wings" were a jetpack.
i think that should’ve been a permanent design. idk, it just fits his character better than just two little fairy wings.
@@browniesskies and Cosmo was more serious than in the actual series
Barrington Scott and so much smarter!
@@volespirit247 His voice was like Phil Hartman
If i could afford it, I'd pay a couple hundred for one of those early cells. I would frame it in a heartbeat.
If u were sonic
U can get em for cheaper than that prolly especially at the time u wrote this
OMG! The Nickelodeon Logo Orange Heart is Totally my Favorite part!❤️
Cool
Super interesting! This is the perfect content for this channel, Butch!
Ah the good old days
Cell animation just makes everything looks better-
Tbh I’m kinda sad how far Butch has fallen as a person, this was actually a really fun video to watch
Touch animation was and is so much better then digital animation 😩❤️🙏 #GoGhostAgain
12:38 Nickelodeon should have never ditched their old splat logo. I mean come on, its iconic.
Hey Butch can you do more videos like this.
Efrain Melendez I’ll definitely keep it in mind! Glad you like!
@@ButchHartmanart Is Teen Titans coming back
@@ButchHartmanart Teen Titans Go is crap
Nostalgia at it's best.
Props to the Korean animators for a job well done.
It’s done at Yeson Entertainment (who is known animating Ed, Edd, n Eddy, The Ren and Stimpy Show and Family Guy).
Love this original concepts art! 😮
Yeah that would be great also thanks for the flashbacks we all really appreciate it
Now I wish the show did animated title cards more often.
I remember all of this stuff from growing up!!
That's totally awesome and spectacular Butch.
Yes yes yes I want to see more stuff like this PLEASE.
Awwww Memories.
Wow... I can't believe that's what they used to look like. I can't believe it.
this was such a great trip down memory lane, please more videos on retro animation the typical day
Cel animation must return
Really makes you appreciate the time and effort put into every damn second of animated shows.
I loved seeing hand drawn animation. It’d be really cool to have cells like that
WOW BUTCH, YOU'RE MY IDOL!
I love collecting cels they are really pleasing to take out and look at now and again
yes I would like to see more
loved this video. you should definitely do more videos like this
That is so freakin COOL! I bet those cells could go for quite a bit, too!
Yes please more videos like this! Very cool too see your work from the past and how passionate you still are about it!!
I love to see Amanda from Bunsen is a beast on the white board
I actually have a couple of cels from who framed Roger rabbit
So are the tuff puppy layouts used as actual layouts, where Korea would scan it and recolor it, or is it used differently?
U showed show us what Timmy's parents' faces would've looked like on their original bodies! 😁
I always wondered where that whole Animation Trait started from by hiding the parents, or any other adult characters faces, Never understood that trait, Hanna Barbera didn't even us that that much.
you should sell these like they sell the original hand painted sponge bob cells from season 1 for around 70-80$ i think it would be cool to literally own a piece of the show
My child heart. I have very small vague memories of the shorts before the show started. As I 4 in 2001 I don’t remember much. But fairly odd parents was my favorite show to watch before school every morning (thanks TEVO)
Definitely more stuff like this! I love hearing about the process behind the shows I remember so fondly.
That is so awesome!!!!!!! I always had a great love for traditional animation which everything is animated with Cels. This was a great insight into what you guys had to go through with making the cartoons that we watched as kids. Good luck with your future projects.
I’d sell my kidney for Danny Phantom cels
Good memories Butch Hartman and wonderful art work for animation. I love this. Orange is my favorite color. I would love to see more from The Fairly OddParents please.
man cool to see a piece of your finest works butch!
More cel videos please! This is so fascinating.
Thank, Butch. You are the man!
We love Los Padrinos Mágicos.
Greetings from Mexico.
Seeing those frames brings back the scenes, making me laugh and be entertained all over again! Keep it up!
So. Much. Nostalgia! Great video and I’d definitely be in the market to buy some of these!
WANT MORE!!! Always such great videos plus all the neat things you talk about or show on them. Keep them coming.
Hey idea for next video, does Danny have to be transform to Danny phantom to use his powers
Austin Blocker :00000000
That be so amazing! That would make me so happy!
Wow, that's awesome! I love seeing how animations were made like that. Nowadays, we really take digital animations for granted, huh?
The last cel is the episode when Timmy’s parents go out and he wanted to take care of himself. Vicky always tried to ruin it for him and she would call his parents home and they would see that he was good
I loved this video! Very informative and fascinating!
We need more of these
Tradtional animation cell
This is very cool butch cheers been a fan of your work and animations since i was 7
*accidentally rips the Tuff Puppy drawing*
Yes! Let's see some more old stuff! :-)
Yes!!! please show us more stuff you did in the past as well as stories and advice!
We want Part 2!
hey Butch, this was fascinating! would love to see more videos like this
All those papers getting mixed up gives me anxiety
Also since it's an exclusive original drawing/cell from a very popular cartoon but still not very old for a TV show I'd pay a good few thousand dollars for one of those sketches/ cells
The logistics of cel animation always seemed a mystery to me. For instance, if you had a character in a running or walking cycle, then on top of that their head is lifting and dropping for emphasis in that way they used to in Hanna Barbera cartoons, and somehow the mouth shapes are always perfectly in place. In digital animation you only need to have each mouth shape once and drag it where you like, while in cel animation every head placement presumably needs its own set of mouth shapes... and then it all has to be logged on a sheet for the guy at the rostrum!
if you noticed, in limited animation such as at Hanna Barbera, the body (and head) don't actually have any up and down movement during walk cycles. That is precisely to solve issues like that. Secondly, they wouldn't animate random mouth shapes like today, they would animate the actual dialogue and words spoken. So, the head, or at least part of it, would need to be redrawn anyway.
They should make a Danny Phantom movie
You should keep those cells and rescan them in high quality and make like restored upgraded versions of the episodes like what they do with old films when they restore them
that is like making all over again. not practical, is better to scan the original film and remaster the filn like a movie.
This was fantastic, would love to see more
Yes we need more of this kind of video.
This was super cool to see I've never seen the oldschool slides painted like that, real awesome thanks for showing :)
I just started collecting cels from cartoons I grew up with. There is still a lot of things I have yet to understand about cels.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!! I would love to see history for my most favorite cartoon show growing up. I LOVED watching Fairly Odd Parents. I even loved the little documentary you posted for us..Wow how things were back then and how much things has changed.
Love the animation stufffff 😍
This was a. Amazing video it helped me learn more of how people used to animate
im in love with this im about to graduate animation college in another month with a bachelor in arts for traditional animation and i grew up on fairly odd parents and i remember all these shorts butch is showing and its just so cool to see the old school way where everything is tangible and real whereas now everyones using toon boom (a great software btw). fairly oddparents was one of the shows that got me hooked on animation and i remember seeing the bumpers on tv where butch shows you how to draw characters and i used to try and copy it.
I loved this video! It was so great to take a tour down memory lane!
Omg the amazing details of paper and animating is amazing 😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would love more content like this
I remember working in the mail room and see butch and artist in 2018 I went on to CG animation industry but wish i was old enough around for handdrawn animation
I felt the pain of the painter who painted in that orange heart
Fun fact. Tax professionals used to write notes on a return in blue for the same reason (it wouldn't show up on a Xerox). Now since returns are done digitally (if your pro is doing it correctly) so that has fallen out of practice.
Those koreans are professionals If they can make the same exact pictures with characters models and storyboards
How would I go about buying some of your original cells for real? I have such an appreciation for your work 😭
Dudley Puppy is my favorite character on my life!!!! 😊💗
“Cosmo, Wanda, I Wish the Nickelodeon Logo Heart was Orange!”
It would be cool to see a how an action cartoon like Danny Phantom is animated.
More concept art on digital and painted cell art maybe a little tutorial...
I studied Animation course not long ago, as a hobby i miss it, it's quite difficult to find work in this area.
This guy inspired me to keep continueing to study for my game devoper degree
more of these behind the scenes!
Loved this! Yes, more videos like this!
This is awesome!
This is amazing
Dr Hartman = this guy!!!! it all ducking clicked just now and only 23 years later lmfao!!!!!!
Yes more please
more of this!
I've always thought real animation looks better than digital. Take Spongebob for example or Butch's original Fairly OddParents shorts, the real animation has that imperfect look to it that makes it so much better in my opinion than the later stuff on Nick.
digital is not fake animation. You mean traditional or cel animation not "real" animation
