I bought the 1.2 L Trax but i made sure my wife and i got the 6 speed trans and not the CVT trans. Also bought a lifetime engine and trans powertrain extended warranty that the dealer offered with $100 deductible.
Scotty you gotta get your hands on the 24-25 trax. I just bought one and it is crazy good. My only gripe is the electronic parking brake, and the start stop I have to turn off every time I start it.
Use amsoil and their filter Great oil and they have the paper work to back up their claims It’s the best oil out there for your car Also their transmission fluid is great Again they will happily give you all the documentation on their products.
Scotty I have a 2020 Ford Edge with the start / stop and like you I hate SS systems. Watched a video on RUclips that showed all you have to do is disconnect a cable at the battery to disable the SS system. I put the cable end in a ziplock bag and ziptied it closed. Edmunds' most recent reliability report tracking issues from 2020-2024 had Toyota ranked #2 - you'll never guess where Chevy was ranked.....#4! Chevy was the biggest mover upward, having not been in the Top 10 from the previous year, while Honda had the biggest drop, not appearing anywhere in the top 10l
I left Toyota for a Chevy. Toyota is not all that. And I've had many for decades. They're not the same anymore. Toyota loyalists act like Toyota’s are flawless. They are not.
I have a 2021 Chevy TB fully loaded. Is it fast? No, so I love it? Yes. I don’t drive very much / far- it’s a comfortable ride. Very nice to drive, numerous bells and whistles.
I just bought a 2022 Trailblazer. Man, this is one fun vehicle! The 3 cylinder turbo has a V6-like growl to it. It sits higher and rides like a truck. It maneuvers and handles like a Malibu. It's got this short wheelbase that makes it really fun to whip around. It's easy to park. Can't wait to put the AWD to the test in the winter. Maybe this car will make me hate snow less. General Motors and Chevrolet had better keep this and build on it. They have something really special with this car. And they had better not screw it up. Like how Chevy has the Silverado for the last million years, this is going to be Chevy's next flagship vehicle.
I just drove a friend’s brand new Trailblazer last week and I was impressed! Also AWD and powered by a 1.3 and 9 speed tranny. His is the base version with 17 inch wheels. And it gets good gas mileage. The engine automatic stop feature doesn’t seem to work if you have a/c on which is great! Two weeks ago, I drove a Corolla Cross loaner which I didn’t like. As much as I like Toyota products, there is no way I’d buy that Corolla.
Yeah auto stop doesn't work most of the time with AC. I have a Chevy Cruze 2018, it has the auto stop start feature but no button to disable it. There's another trick however, putting the drive stick on L and manual increase gears to 6 (it's a 6 speed), it'll run like an ordinary automatic transmission, but the auto stop is disabled, at least 95% of the time, it still happens but very rarely
He did a positive review on a Chevy colorado with a v4 diesel, I think it was a 2008 or something and he advised people to buy one if they want a very affordable reliable truck
Extended warranties are full of loopholes. They almost never cover what actually breaks. If you are going to buy a tiny turbo, EV or a hybrid, you best bet is to do short term leases so you give them back before they fail.

It sucks GM is relying entirely on GM Korea for their smallest, cheapest cars now, but they bought out Daewoo (now called GM Korea) like 20yrs ago, before the bailout. The bailout kept them from folding and saved a lot of existing American jobs.
If you need a car for getting groceries, commuting to work, shuttling kids. Seems like a 1.3 will do fine. Driving on 80 mph freeways everyday, maybe not.
The Kia Seltos is Made in Korea, has a 10 year 100k powertrain warranty, is $2000 cheaper than the Chevy Trailblazer, and has a bigger engine (non turbo). In short you'd be crazy to choose the 3 cyl turbo Chevy (5 year 60k Miles powertrain warranty) over the 4 cyl Kia (10 year 100k mile powertrain warranty). Both made in Korea.
With KIA, we know they're crap. With this Korean Chevy (AKA Daewoo), we don't know for sure (yet). I'll stay away from anything unproven. That's why I bought a Lexus with a 2GR engine.
I bought a used 2019 2.0L (4 cyl) made in Korea Hyundai Kona SEL 100% gas engine and adore it. Lot's of options, same kind of controls, solidly built and gets awesome mileage. Looks very similar with the same styling and finishes. A LOT of plastic in these new cars, but with a 5 star safety rating I'll live with it, pun intended.
Thank you very much for the review on the Chevy 2024 Trailblazer. Might be interested in it especially for a loaded vehicle for 28k. We have been interested in new Ford Maverick. But can't wait for the new 15 to 20 k price for the new Toyota pickup truck they are planning to build. I am sure they will sell millions of the small Toyota pickup trucks around the world. I just hope they will sell them in America.
I have a 2024 activ with a CVT it’s not insanely fast but it’s still pretty zippy (0-60 is like 7.5 seconds) and I already have 23k miles on it with no issues. Only complaint is availability for parts.
I thought about why they charge so much for cars because they want you lease them instead of financing or buying it, so when you lease it basically renting it at the end of the lease they get it back or an option to buy them the process starts all over again with new incentives to buy if you're keeping the vehicle. All I say is it's one big scam at the end of the day...
Don't worry, he will bashing on the car in a few videos. Usually tries to praise the cars when he gets them then rant about how bad on following videos
A lot of grey comments. Of late !!! This Ford is so good. This GM is so good. And 12 months ago he was on their hitlist! Crooked money straightens anything. I need a huge amount of convincing to alter my view! Because I have been following Scotty. Staunchly. For years. The change is as clear as crystal. Where there's smoke............................. And you are not alone in noticing it! Have a great day!
Man, I would hate to work at the main business office of any of these car manufacturers. Always smells so bad in the executive hallway, what with all of them crapping their pants every other day...
Test drove one of these and loved it (for what it is) except for the price - $42k in Canada for a tiny SUV is insane. Very rev-happy and slow to shift, but all around pretty decent.. probably the dumbest thing you can buy for the money though.
Thank you Scotty. I watched your video on the 2021 Trailblazer bc I'm interested in that one but was REALLY concerned abt the engine. In 2023 my 2009 Dodge Caliber went to dumpster heaven bc of wiring problems and rust. The CVT 2.0L 4 cylinder engine still purred like a kitten. But, I thought a 1.3 L 3 cylinder engine ? When I have saved up enough I will start looking for the 2021. : )
I like Scotty but nope. Like I want to be tied to a chevy dealer with the extended warranty just for them to find an excuse not to be covered. Now Scotty likes tiny turbo engines? Please.
so not quite on topic but about a trailblazer...(little background i grew up on repairng/ rebuilding cars from the 60's thru 80's) this vehcicle has the 4.2 is a 2004... the symptom .. after it reaches 160 degrees and has been at freeway speeds for 15 minutes then back again on surface streets the oil pressure will drop to 0 below 900 rpm...otherwise it is in 50 to 70 range... just changed oil and filter ...was doing this before oil change... if it remains on surface streets it does not do this even at 160 plus temp no matter length of time driving.. bandaide "fix" adjust idle to 900 rpm...has 210,000 miles...really don't relish changeing oil pump but will if that is only true fix..your thoughts? thanks
I have the 1.2 cvt and you are right feels horrible when you accelerate while is going down the road is ok and in the country roads I get about 40mpg so it’s not bad don’t expect it to win any races tho 😂
Actually Scotty I had a 92 Geo Metro with a 1 .0 engine 3 cylinder Suzuki engine. 5 speed 40 + mi to the gallon drove it to 5 year apprenticeship to be a plumber 70,000 MI sold it for 70% of what I paid for it to another plumber who drove it for another 70. 😬👍 Never had a day's trouble!!!
Depends on how well this thing sales. They're at 84,000 sales so far this year, which is half the amount of rav4 sales. I think Chevy packs these with more features than Toyota at a much lower price. If you're leasing for 3 years, why not go with this? Lower payments, comfortable, more features etc.. Toyota has gone downhill in reliability recently btw
@RRr-yl8zr yeah just dump on it, I don't see how these reviewers have a hard time... there's a side freeway next to the dealership & i usually do that when I'm testing out cars...I gets up quicker than the Trax & Silverado Custom
2025 Activ is pretty peppy, to each his own. The torque will make you think different about this 3 cylinder turbo charged engine. Better then my last 4 banger... 😊
Turbo engines have higher cylinder pressure than normally aspirated engines , I prefer the na over the turbo for that reason for a long term car, just an old man’s opinion.
@@marvinjacobs2955Agree. 5psi from a turbo, increases the intake charge. Resulting in a 30% increase in mechanical load and higher combustion temperature.
@@marvinjacobs2955 I purchased a 2005 VW Jetta GLI from my daughter for $1500, she purchased it used @ 63,000 miles. I put 40,000 miles on it from 126,000 to 166,000. Sold it to my brother, car now has 182,000. Scotty never had anything good to say about VWs. 6,000 mile synthetic oil and filter changes can keep almost anything on the road to 200,000 miles.
The trailblazer is a low cost car, like other Korean built cars, but doesn’t have their stigma with insurance companies. Like Kia and hundui do. That’s were this car sines low cost, low insurance rates. Also the little 1.3l develops more hp per ci, than the vet motor, the manifold pressure is crazy high though, see how long it lasts, the 1.3 motor has a timing chain the 1.2 motor in this and the trax has a belt. Getting around 30 mpg, or so overall. Happy with the little car.
Maintenance is such a pain with a transverse mounted v6. I own one. Spark plugs takes a lot more effort, exhaust manifold wrapped over the rear valve cover , which is also a pain to replace the seals. Terrible oil filter placement. Very little space in the engine compartment.
In Europe, this is the Ssang Yong Tivoli. The Ssang Yongs are very good reliable 100% Korean cars, made in Korea, with 6AT Aisin transmission and 1.5L T-gdi gasoline engine.
Thanks so much for your review! I feel exactly like you do about sun roofs. I see them as a hazard in a serious accident. I'll take metal over my head any day! ☺️
Most people don't know how to drive a turbo. They will dog it and stop without letting the turbo cool down. That is the biggest no-no, because the turbo cooks the oil in it.
Basically you drive them conservatively and don't rev them up too much? Basically don't drive like a maniac. Start, let it warm up a little, and then let it cool down when when you're done
When almost everything is crap, I figure someone has to choose which animal's excrement to eat. No matter, it will stink at about 80,000 miles if not sooner. Just stick with the older, proven stuff. Was never a fan of GM after the $110 heated thermostat or the PCV valve that's a permanent part of the valve cover on the 1.8's. They always had a way to turn a $15 part into a $100+ part. Anything CVT is eliminated as well as smoky Hyundai/Kia engines and black exhaust tips that their dealers say are completely normal. Warranties can be tricky as dealers can say nothing is wrong even though it's rolling coal. At this point, an old Crown vic, Cougar 90's T-bird or a Caprice rebuilt would be my choice.
Hey Scotty, did the pine tree air freshener come as standard equipment? 174 ft lbs of torque with about 3,252 lb vehicle weight, with the 9 speed - not a bad match up. Sorry Scotty, I am on my 3rd turbo Hyundai and put 175,000 miles on them before I trade, no turbo issues. Looking forward to this car being on your top 10 not to buy list in a couple of years. 🤣🤣🤣 Love your channel!!
The 1.2 engine has a wet timing belt that part of the replacement procedure if I am not mistaken is replacing the timing cover. I am reading conflicting things about the 1.3. I have had two dealers say two different things (wet belt vs chain) and I do not see a replacement interval in ProDemand so I am hoping it has a chain. Can Scotty confirm this?
Yup. The only thing I would buy is non turbo. Toyota and Honda hybrids don’t bother me much either but I know it probably won’t last quite as long as the N/A engine.
Just looked on the Chevy website and found this information (2024-05-23); if you want the 1.2 motor, you get the Trax. If you want the 1.3 motor, you pay $3,000 more than the Trax and get the Trailblazer. If you want the 1.5 motor, you pay $6,000 more than the Trax and get the Equinox. The Trailblazer is about 4 inches shorter than the Trax and the Equinox is about 4 inches longer. Therefore, you choose your engine size and that determines what car you get. I'm still waiting on a 100,000 mile test on the 2024 Trax/Buick Envista. I have doubts about their long term reliability.
Kia Soul over this all day long. Same size. Thousands of dollars less. No turbo to break. The engine has a timing chain instead of a wet timing belt. Multiport injection instead of GDI. Soul also has a much longer warranty. I can't wrap my head around why the MSRP is so high on this Trailblazer. For this kind of money you can get a Hyundai Kona, which is a larger and nicer vehicle.
It actually looks pretty nice but the 9 speed has to many gears and theres alot of reported problems and both 3 cylinders are no other word.. bad. A real shame
I wonder if this has the same 9 speed transmission as the 2018 chevy cruze? They had very little transmission issues. In fact the 2018 cruze had few issues in general, it was a good car. And yes the first gen was horrible.
Mate! Where did you find that Trail Blazer for $16k?!!!! I’m at a dealership right now for the 1.3L Turbo & the msrp is $25,999 brand new. Bastards man.
Cvt’s are faster than a normal auto because it always offers the best gear ratio for what the demand is but they do suck and depending on software trick you to thinking you have a normal trans it also makes your car feel sound like a boat
Id love to hear you touch on the 1.2L version with that internal timing belt in oil garbage. Once I figured that out I had instant buyers remorse after all the failures with the Ford 1.0L ecoboost.
Scotty.. I sat in this car.. and it as cheap as you can get.. driving it is flat and boring.. I did end up getting a AUDI Q5.. and what a difference. I know you don't like Audi.. but the Q5s have gotten very reliable and what a peppy quick fun car.
That 1.3 l engine has a wet timing belt and oil pump drive belt. Hope it’s better made than Fords 1 liter engine with a similar wet timing belt that has been very troublesome
No point in comparing to a Toyota, Toyota dealerships have such limited inventory, while GM dealerships have good inventory. I'd have to order a new Rav4 months in advance while I could buy a Trax or Trailblazer today.
Do a video of how Toyota screwed up on the V6 turbos and turbo 4 cylinder engines in the new Tacomas. I finally saw a video of how Toyota redesigned the turbo V6 and didn’t have individual rod bearing caps and made a one piece lower bearing cap casting - looked to me like something you would see on a Japanese motorcycle engine. Anyway Toyota screwed up big time and will need fix that problem soon. I won’t think about buying a new vehicle until they fix the problem.
You get alot of hate because you cater to a different subset of people, not professional repair video seekers. I enjoy your outlook on the automotive industry and hearing about all the new cars. You do make repairs look easier than they are though. Lol

I took the 1.2 coupled with the CVT as a loaner. The CVT lag plus the turbo lag are annoying but when the boost quicks in it really goes on.
It comes with either the 1.2L with 6-spd auto or 1.3L with CVT.
I have a 2021 trailblazer activ i use for uber it has 195,000 miles it runs like new only issue I have is with the suspension is very tight
What all did u have to replace that was major ?
I Love Chevrolet, I Own A 2005 Silverado With 500.000 Kilometers On It .
OMG. Scotty is becoming a Korean car fan boy! 😱 What is this crazy world coming to?!
I mean he hasn't generally had an issue with Korean made stuff, has he?
Don't worry, he will bashing on the car in a few videos. Usually tries to praise the cars when he gets them then rant about how bad on following videos
If Toyota keeps pumping out Turbos, he's going to be talking about the non-turbo Korean cars more and more.
@@JTguitarlessons he says kia/ hyundai are junk, And he is right .
Please.
Scotty is a salesman first
so not quite on topic but about a trailblazer...(little background i grew up on repairng/ rebuilding cars from the 60's thru 80's) this vehcicle has the 4.2 is a 2004... the symptom .. after it reaches 160 degrees and has been at freeway speeds for 15 minutes then back again on surface streets the oil pressure will drop to 0 below 900 rpm...otherwise it is in 50 to 70 range... just changed oil and filter ...was doing this before oil change... if it remains on surface streets it does not do this even at 160 plus temp no matter length of time driving.. bandaide "fix" adjust idle to 900 rpm...has 210,000 miles...really don't relish changeing oil pump but will if that is only true fix..your thoughts?
Yup, Suzuki makes great engines. And, very efficient utilization of interior space. Can't wait for them to re-enter the North American market.
Probably because Toyota was laughing so hard at this thing. 😂
I have a 2020 Chevy Blazer RS I love it with a 3.6L 6v it will last a long time.
I have the same and I LOVE this car. One of my favorites I’ve ever owned.
Just test drove one today, did 0-60 in about 4 seconds & had no problem getting on the freeway.
0-60 in 4 seconds. 😅🤣😂
@RRr-yl8zr yeah just dump on it, I don't see how these reviewers have a hard time... there's a side freeway next to the dealership & i usually do that when I'm testing out cars...I gets up quicker than the Trax & Silverado Custom
I got one recently. The app tells u when u need an oil change lol what a time to be alive 😊
2025 Activ is pretty peppy, to each his own. The torque will make you think different about this 3 cylinder turbo charged engine. Better then my last 4 banger... 😊
I thought that you had said in the past that the small 3 cylinder engines with turbo were junk. I just bought a car on your say so now I'm confused.
Turbo engines have higher cylinder pressure than normally aspirated engines , I prefer the na over the turbo for that reason for a long term car, just an old man’s opinion.
Ancient chinese philosopher, Confusion.
@@marvinjacobs2955Agree. 5psi from a turbo, increases the intake charge. Resulting in a 30% increase in mechanical load and higher combustion temperature.
If you drive a car conservatively and maintain it, it won't just fall apart that soon. With an extended warranty, don't worry. Buy what you like.
Nice rig. especially the red and black, best colors together. very studly!😎
the Buick Encore GX is pretty similar to this as well
Interestingly enough I once got 34.4 mph in my 4cyl Chevy Impala. 2.5L 6 speed automatic. This was on a 250 mile trip.
I love that flat bottom steering wheel 😂😂😂
Ideal for fat people. Truly fits an SUV driver.
I bet the head of Toyota isnt worried about crapping his pants.....it all DEPENDS
Looks like the 2024 models don't have the automatic transmission option...only cvt...
3 liter V6 without turbos=Durable.
Read the fine print on an extended warranty. Especially what is not included.
Everything they give you in the large print they take away in the small print🥴
@@jeanmcchesney5441 👍Yes, I heard that saying.
1. I would never buy a new vehicle.
2. I would never buy a GM Korean vehicle.
3. I would never buy a vehicle with a tiny 3 cyl engine.
What used vehicle should I get????
@@blablableep6811 A v6. Gm 3800 or Toyota v6.
It's like riding a lawn mower...1.3...crazy
We still have Chevy Trailblazer here in Brazil but they are 2.8 V6 diesel
That’s even better!
Finally!
A Decent Chevy!
Nice looking truck but idk about that 1.3l engine carry all that weight
1.3L 3 cylinder turbo charged....WHAT A JOKE! Extended warranty is not an option.
The Buick Encore GX is similar to this. The all wheel drive model has the 9 speed automatic. Front wheel drive models have the CVT.
Love your channel!!
You know South Koreans make Hyundai right?
Yeah, it's called a 94 Celica with NO Stupid Car Payment. 😅
Or 2012 Scion xB with no car payments.

If you need the extended warranty buy a different car. 2:25. That's the engine in the cruise.
A 1.2 liter turbo is crazy, it's like one of those old time cycle cars but worse with all that weight to drag around.
I had a metro with the mighty 1.0L. I got used to turning off the a/c approaching a bridge and flooring it.
Fine print: turbos are usually not covered under extended warranty’s
I like my CX-30 better. Just took it out of the garage for the first time this year. Only 5400 miles on it.🏁
1.3l turbo engine? You must be kidding 😂
"Ah C'Mon Man"
yeah but it's 3 cylinders so it has bigger pistons lol
Only natural aspirated engines for me ill never buy something with a turbo charger they will not last longer than a natural aspirated engine
Yup. The only thing I would buy is non turbo. Toyota and Honda hybrids don’t bother me much either but I know it probably won’t last quite as long as the N/A engine.
I had a turbo engine car for 16 years and almost 200k miles. No issues.
My mr2 turbo back in the day drove 200.000 miles without issues. And I did use that car 🤣
What type of engines have a million miles in those Kenworth Semis?
1.3l turbo? BOOM!
Kaboom💥
Just looked on the Chevy website and found this information (2024-05-23);
if you want the 1.2 motor, you get the Trax.
I have doubts about their long term reliability.
if you want AWD ....You CAN'T get the Trax.
This is most likely the Korea Scotty instead of our Scotty. God bless everyone 🙏
Once I figured that out I had instant buyers remorse after all the failures with the Ford 1.0L ecoboost.
everything about Ford fails
Scotty.. I sat in this car.. and it as cheap as you can get.. driving it is flat and boring.. I did end up getting a AUDI Q5.. and what a difference. I know you don't like Audi.. but the Q5s have gotten very reliable and what a peppy quick fun car.
A Q5 is like 20k more expensive than a trailblazer so I would hope so
It all comes down to maintenance and conservative driving.
🙄
I wouldn't buy anything made by GM I don't care who or where it is made. Government Motors has never made anything worthwhile.
🙄🤪
That 1.3 l engine has a wet timing belt and oil pump drive belt. Hope it’s better made than Fords 1 liter engine with a similar wet timing belt that has been very troublesome
The 1.2 engine does. the 1.3 has a chain
No point in comparing to a Toyota, Toyota dealerships have such limited inventory, while GM dealerships have good inventory. I'd have to order a new Rav4 months in advance while I could buy a Trax or Trailblazer today.
this does not compete against a RAV 4 Maybe against that Lame, over priced dog called the toyota "crosstour"? ............
Looks like Chexy is going in the right direction with that rig!
You get alot of hate because you cater to a different subset of people, not professional repair video seekers. I enjoy your outlook on the automotive industry and hearing about all the new cars. You do make repairs look easier than they are though. Lol
nice! i have been considering it too
