This is much more detailed system wing Chun explained much better than some I could mention showing me it’s not just about standing there with all the moves ie the shift with the hips and feet with out coming off ground the elbows turned in cover centre line in previous video you tell this very well and clear understanding for me to practice.

Sifu Jason, U made an excellent point about the front kick. Students often apply the front while leading back. It's one of those mystery only the source of its origin can answer.

That is the best wing chun teacher. What really matters is that he understands the environment, and what you are likely to meat. And by this way the wing chun can be adapted.

As you start talking about waist-stance turning, power transfer and elbows, it really helps to practice elbow strikes on a heavy bag. You will improve force transfer and also your balance and rooting so you don’t get knocked back when you use them. It also strengthens those abs too.
Also the luk sau (rolling hands) practice on the wooden dummy (in section 4 as well as the end of all sections) teaches you to forcefully rotate and sync your upper and lower body into the turns to build power, rooting, balance.

Although my Chum Kiu "looks" a bit different ( lineage thing :-) ) , the concepts are the same. Your emphasis on the Yu Ma and the shifting energy is very good! I find your vision on the application part of this form (and the SLT for that matter) very refreshing and also very helpfull for my own WC Journey and teachings. Thx for sharing and you gained a big fan from the Netherlands!! Please keep Sharing these great videos and I'll keep hitting the like button ( Cause I don't want bad things to happen of course....)

Like wing chun for close fighting stance and hips are always important to strong punches power comes from hips in a fight you use whatever is available for fight usually ends real quick on or two strikes and something to think about the going forward to make sure your opponent either surrendered or put him out so they don’t come at you with your back turned and start to walk away I like to learn from all use what works cool good video my friend

Very enlightening Sifu, particularly considering the center of gravity with the footwork, traditionally I'm used to moving up on my toes, but this concept, moving on the heels flat, rooting to the ground, I can allot of potential here, isn't this rooting what gives stability in other arts like Aikido, becoming unmovable???
    Thank you sir!!!

When you talk about the stance shifting and weight, I have noticed over time I prefer a 50/50 weight distribution for many situations, with maybe 60/40 for the shifting. It was drilled in at 70/30 a lot of the time, but hanging back too much slows me down and limits weight transfer for turning strikes.
Regarding the feet, heel vs ball vs whole foot, the best explanation I read is from sifu Derek Fung. His sifu taught to feel the weight on the front 2/3 of your foot. That way you have both rooting/stability as well as quickness. It makes a lot of sense.

    • @justinofrivia1035
      @justinofrivia1035 5 лет назад

I like 60/40 as well. I've trained Jeet Kune Do too and sometimes I'll use them together when i train by myself. However, I can do both styles footwork obviously (I've done fencing too, actually), and am able to choose one and do it properly. You know what I mean? Does this Sifu in the video do JKD, too? Or no?

  • @BlueFang714

The head hunting thing, one of my favorite things to do is to make an obvious chop towards the face with one hand while the other maintains contact, I know they'll block it, that's the point. The hand that maintained contact while low they've forgotten about out of fear for their face and it just slides forward into a body shot.
So simple but so many fall for it out of fear for their face. Not that you shouldn't be worried about your face though either haha.

If I have it right, with my Tai Chi studies, uniting the body behind all your forms is considered essential. The attack is a fortified one that has as much defense built into it as it can. And Tai Chi is a counter attack style according to my teacher. It's supposed to listen, read and then appropriately counter the incoming energy. And I see Wing Chun, with Chi Sau, like Tai Chi's Push Hands, getting that sensitivity training in too. Referring to this after watching from 20:23 onward. The form Sifu is doing here reminded me of ideas I was shown with Tai Chi forms. Both Chinese Martial Arts and heck, packing as much safety into your techniques as you can makes universal common sense.

Good stuff! Nice to see the interpretation. I left wing chun after 10 years, for tai chi boxing as it offers hammer fist, side cutting fist, uppercut, back fist, stand up grappling. It is another art heavily misunderstood, and mistaken as weak. Wing chun makes you feel guilty for using all those other shots. What you say is right. I have been put on my arse by Muay Thai, taken down and choked by BJJ. Maybe with totally other mind set it could dominate. Greeting from Australia

Really awesome breakdown..best I've seen...too many Wing Chun practioners are stuck in traditional techniques without understanding the application...Wing Chun is supposed to be fluid and adaptable not rigid and structured ...real confrontations are not structured and choreographed to predictable movements, which unfortunately is how to many wing chun practioners approach it. Love the part especially about always moving forward after a kick..its ridiculous...why would you move forward on a guy who is moving at an angle...that only works with an inexperienced fighter..in the street you never know who you'll come across and what they know about combat...try moving staight forward after a kick on a guy who moves like Lomachenko and see what happens....again my compliments GREAT STUFF

Similar to swinging a baseball bat, when you shift your weight, pretend you're trying to squash a giant bug with the same side foot your punch is being thrown from... They will force your knee to pivot and your hip will follow... It's an easy way to teach this "shift". Great instruction by the way!!!

Omg that Jesus Christ bit was HILARIOUS! Man, your students should be on their hands and knees worshipping you. These days, someone who truly knows and understands the system at this level is rare enough, finding someone with that knowledge who will also teach it, is next to impossible... looks like you're one of the few!
Ps. F#ck those who criticize .There are so many descendants of so many lineages, there's no right or wrong, so long as you can logically justify why you do what you do; as opposed to those who essentially say "I do exactly what I was taught, therefore I'm doing it right"... when in fact they have no idea why they're doing what they do, the way way they do it.
