We’ve got our hands on the almighty, all-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and it’s going up against one of the most hardcore BMWs money can buy - the all-new BMW M3 CS! The question is, does this track-focused Porsche have what it takes to bring down the BMW?
Well, let’s take a closer look at the stats. Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that can produce 525hp and 465Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and being a track-focused car, it’s super light, weighing in at just 1,450kg!
But all this power & performance doesn’t come cheap, with the GT3 RS starting from £190,000! What’s more, the one we have here has the Weissach Pack fitted, so it costs around £235,000!
Then we have the BMW M3 CS. It has the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as in the regular M3, but power has been increased to 550hp and 650Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the car is a fair bit heavier than the GT3, at 1,765kg. It’s a fair bit cheaper, though, costing around £116,000.
So the BMW has more power, but will the weight prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The M3 doesn't make much down force at all. The GT3 rs , even with that Drs activated, the entire car overall from front to back is still dragged by all the Downforce it's making . It's a track tool.

it can't because that would mean it should be RWD only no Xdrive but at that point, it would murder the M4 CSL on track and that's not what BMW wants, so they handicapped it with Xdrive to make it not as fast and light as it could be

I think it might beat Porsche if it had same tyres and a dual clutch gearbox. GT3RS is a full track focused version, it should not have struggled. I am just thinking what if BMW made a GTR like the one for E46, that would probably break youtube car channels for few days.
These might be 2 of the most evenly matched cars I've seen on carwow.👍

Been following carwow for almost 4 years now. It’s really interesting to see their car selection for drag races is improving over the years. There are lots and lots more different type of cars but close races I’ve ever seen nowadays. Great Job, keep going🔥

PDK is the secret sauce. Seeing that kickdown from 7th to 2nd in a second is unreal and that engine is godly, keeping up with that TT I6. As was once said "The Porsche 4.0 is the benchmark, the N/A engine that all other N/A engines answer to"

Just want to point out that the BMW launched a tick later than the Porsche, which may be responsible for being that few centimeters behind it... that GT3 RS is still one of the best cars ever, just amazing
The M3cs was not the best 1/4 times i have ever seen so far, go watch the AutoTopNL M3cs 1/4 time comes to 10.88s, im sure if Matt did drive the M3cs the comfort race and braking was the only lose for the M3cs otherwise BMW would have take over that 200k Sportcar Porsche lol

The GT3 RS costs at least 100k more than the M3 CS and is around 300 kg lighter, so I‘d say that the M3 CS is the clear winner here in my opinion. 👀

Very surprised that M3 CS performed equally as good as that mighty RS did consider the Bimmer is a 4 seater daily sedan weights so much more, i know it will be completely different story on track but still very impressive for the M3
Checkout hagerty’s video which tracks the M4 CS, GT3 RS, and Z06. M4 can’t really keep up because it doesn’t have aero but it does bloody well on track compared to the GT3.
The B58 / S58 engine is a monster. Only Nick's hesitant launches saved the Porsche. Adding a tiny bit of moisture will also make it completely different story.

Matt always starts first, even if you don't call it a jump start it's his reaction time that decides the race.
Exactly, other guy was at least 0.1-0.2 seconds behind Mat's start, you can see the difference in every start.
Agree with that , therefore the bmw would be winning by a nose.
When you do so may races, your abilities will increase. That said specifically Xdrive and ZF Torque converter via BMW launch control combined is far inferior to RWD and PDK via Porsche launch control. My previous Macan GTS launched better than my M4

Love and respect the channel, been a subscriber for longer than I can remember so when I say this, it's not to be confrontational or nit-pick, BUT um well when they do the action replay in times were the cars are almost identical and they can't decide, that's were it has and always will favor the car closest to the camera based on where the camera is set up. They really should have a camera on both sides set up with a transom laser for pure adjustment and take footage from both sides.. or have a timing marker... Anywho for what it's worth I think the CSL may have edged in the third race..

The aesthetics of the gt3 rs is on another level. You have to see the car in person. Although it already looks sick enough on video.
Don't know if the looks are "sick", but I screen-shotted that front angle view for my files.
Few months ago i saw GT2RS MR coming at me in a small street but the guy was sending it (i was a pedestrian), it looked like a racecar. He accelerated to 80 kmh and started heavy breaking, it was a sight to behold. So yes, these cars indeed look more impressive in person than trough lens.

M3s have always been a wee bit softer than a GT3 - which tells you just how amazingly the BMW engineers have done.

well the gt3rs is specifically not designed for drag racing with a N/A engine. A tesla beats any normal sports car/hypercar and it is a family sedan

Also at the rolling race that cucumber got the response setting of the gearbox atbthe slowest, you can see it at his screen that the 3 stripes are only filled by one stripe. 3 full stripes mean instant response, one is the slowest. How do they recruit these guys 😂

On M3/M4 while in D1 Engine Comfort mode (defaults) the the kickdown is really-really slow. But you have the M1/M2 buttons and mine are mapped to D2 Engine Sport with Suspension Comfort and S3 Engine Sport Plus with Suspension Sport :D Anyaway, that Porsche is a great car. Just not a daily, like the BMW.

Had an M3CS. It’s fast, but try adjusting the A/C temp, fan speed and recirculation. Sweet car but the integra type S is a lot more fun … most people won’t be able to give up the flex but fun > flex for me.
