I just picked up the Kenobi Vader last week and I'm happy with this one. I have ESB, Kenobi, White and Carbonized Vader figures. Great comparison video. 👍
Appreciate you watching, Mitch! ESB Vader all day! -Justin
the comparison we were needing
Thanks, Villoni! Hopefully this video can help some new collectors as well. -Justin
Definitely agree that ESB version is the best Vader. It also happens to be my favorite overall figure in the whole line. For the price point it’s basically about as good as you can get. Only thing missing for me is a vertical hinge on the saber hand. Of course would love alternate hands as well but we all know that never happens in TBS. now we just need a damaged helmet version with a crispified Hayden Sculpt underneath, and a new removeable helmet version with the ROTJ anniversary next year!
I definitely want a battle damaged version from Kenobi! Thanks for watching, Jhawkjedi. -Justin
Got it last week sealed for 20€ absolute amazing figure but mine is still in box 😁
Oh how far we’ve come. Black Series is starting to rival the import quality we were getting a few years ago. I think that the prices are a little egregious but considering the sculpt/print technology we get now along with improvements in articulation, it’s not a bad price hike with today’s inflation. Still a great time to be a collector of a franchise spanning more than 40 years. Very nice comparison guys!
Appreciate you checking out the video, Shawn! The line has definitely come such a long way. It's kind of crazy how good the figures are now compared to back then! -Justin
Boy, those early Vaders are rough... ESB is definately the king. That one is hard to beat. However, I do like the 40th version and I'm really looking forward to getting the Kenobi version. Great video!
Totally agreed, Matt! Kenobi Vader is a worthy pickup, it's ever so slightly better than the 40th ANH version. Thanks for watching! -Justin
Great comparison! I love it and now I want to try to get them all! What number is the Darth Vader with the removable helmet?? I don’t know that I’ve ever seen it??
The blue line Darth Vader is the one with the removable helmet! According to ActionFigure411 it is 02 in the blue line. -Justin
Only Vader i am missing is Emps Wrath and im glad i am haha!
ESB Vader is my Favorite and definitive Vader in the line. From superior articulation to the all Black eyes...he hits the mark. I also have him on the minty ESB 40th card back unopened because imo you have to have this as a Vader fan.
I recently picked up Kenobi Vader and i am happy with this version. I Rank him as 2nd.
3rd place Is a New Hope Vader. Another solid Vader and was such a welcomed versi9n of him with a 3 year gap with out a Vader figure.
Last but not Least is RoTJ Vader. At his release he was awesome and i personally will never forget the feeling of having him on my shelf flanked by storm troopers. The helmet being the biggest issue about this version. Hoping foe ROTJ 40th we get an epic retooled version with an awesome swappable unmasked head.
Fun video for sure. Thanks for doing this Nate!
What's up, Fig! ESB Vader supremacy! Totally agree with Kenobi Vader as a close second though. I think I actually might like the helmet on that one better. Appreciate you checking out the video as always! -Justin
Mine is the - A New Hope - Vader. The first time I saw Vader on screen the first imprinted memory of Star Wars it just looks remarkable to me!
Although the Empire is my second the butterfly joints are sick it's just the memory of my first time seeing Vader on screen like I just said is why the A New Hope Vader is my favorite. than the Obi-Wan version, Wrath and the first ever blue line.
Thanks for the cool video guys!
Stephen
That's totally fair! Good stuff, Stephen. Thanks for watching! -Justin
Thanks a million from an OCD collector!
Thanks for watching! -Justin
I don’t think they will ever nail Vader in the Black Series.. i just don’t think any of them look right. I think they need to do a molded tunic, one solid chest/shoulder piece and work on the helmet sculpt
I think the Kenobi one might be the best, visually. -Justin
Viewers: man youtube recommendations are boring lately-
Kenobi Clips: *Hello There!*
Hello there! -Justin
Wow, this is a great comparison video it really shows Hasbro's evolution, look how awesome Hasbro can make a Vader now, the sculpting especially is fantastic. We do NEED a Kenobi Anakin behind the mask battle damaged Vader and of course a ROTJ version showing Sebastian Shaw's face behind the battle damaged mask.Come on Hasbro!Great video Nate, awesome
Thanks for checking out the video, Boba! You are right! Those are two more Vader figures we absolutely need. Take care! -Justin
Esb all the way, the helmet sculpt is gorgeous, esb also have the best chewie and han version
Very true, hanif! Thanks for watching. 👍🏻 -Justin
I got my ESB Vader on retro cardbacks for $15 last year there are the newer box versions out there still at retail price
Well I wanna live where you do because both the retro card back and Galaxy packaging don’t go below $40 these days. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Excellent job with the comparison video. I actually like the new Obi-Wan Vader the best because of the less material used in the cape and the cleaner looking chest panel, but the ESB Vader with butterfly joints has the best sculpt. So they’re both good. Cheers my friend! 🍻
Those are the top two for sure! I'm glad I picked up the Kenobi Vader. Thanks for watching, MarkyD! -Justin
Do you have the new talking Darth Vader from Walmart at the toy department becawse I do have it in my collection ?
We do not have that! Although I have seen it. -Justin
Great comparison ESB Vader is definitely the best. That Vader was one of my first Black series and I was surprised how amazing it was. If I see kenobi Vader I feel like I will have to pick it up but we will see
Thanks for checking out the video, LazyJawa! Have a good rest of your week. -Justin
Nice job Nate. I agree with your rankings👍🏻. Although the removable helmet on the original Vader is unique to them all
Very true! I actually kind of like that head sculpt too. It's not bad for the year it was released! Thanks for watching as always, Brian. -Justin
I just took the 40 ANH and modded it to be ESB/ROTS. (Cut up the cloth and glued it under armor, painted eyes, and painted buttons. )
Looks great.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing. -Justin
Why is the audio not loud enough? I had it all the way up to hear the video at a decent way but when an ad came out it was as if I was ta a live concert
I had it on the wrong setting and didn’t realize until I was editing. Thanks for watching. -Nate
The only one I have is the one with the removable helmet. It gets a lot of hate, but for me the only issue is the size and shape of the eyes on the helmet. Other than that, and the soft goods are clearly better on the newer Vaders, I actually prefer it. I'd like to see them have another go at a removable helmet Vader.
I'd rather have an alternate unhelmeted head as opposed to removable! That way they can give some proper proportions to the helmet like what we have now. Thanks for watching, Evil Robot Steve! -Justin
A long time ago, I had the Flashback Photo Vader as a kid. Of course, growing up means some decisions are made. What I never likes about the 3”inch figures are the sabers: they broke easily. Something I also didn’t like was the rubber cape and… I remember it was also a time where male characters were bulkier than usual, Luke being the worst and Vader having a weird silhouette.
I recently got the Kenobi Vader with the awareness that it was the ANW sculpt. The “kid” I was yesterday would have been happy with this figure. Just owning a GOOD looking Vader after seeing over two decades of ups and downs, I’m just glad that time blessed the technology and manufacturing.
Thanks for watching, ScolioReset! The Kenobi Vader is a great all around representation. Take care! -Justin
All of these are head & shoulders better than the 3.75" Vader I had as a kid in the '80s (especially after my dog chewed his feet off). That said, I only own 1 Black Series Vader, and yep its the ESB version. If a nice ROTJ variant comes out next year and it has something new on offer? Then I'd be happy to pick up a second one!
I'd be down for a ROTJ Vader with something new to offer! Thanks for watching, Misha. -Justin
Great video, my favourite Vader is the one with the Black Helmet😉
I like the one with the gloved hands! -Justin
As someone with the ANH Vader, is it worth it upgrading to the Kenobi Vader or just wait for whatever Vader comes next?
At this point I’d just wait. We’ve got the Return of the Jedi version right around the corner. -Nate
Really good vid. Question tho...
So which one is the current (2024) "NewHope" Vader? Is it the Empire Vader? This would be a cool, little conversation on the main show, as I think some sad folks like myself aren't quite as UP on these details as we'd like to be.
I am really impressed with this new Vader. Incredibly impressed is more accurate.
I have a couple ObiWan Vaders but didn't open them and I think the same can be said about the 1st NewHope & Empire Vaders. I guess this explains my over-exubberance for this new one. That said, it might be a top10 fig of the year so far.
Funnily enough, we have a video going up on Friday about the confusing nature of some of these rereleases. The Vader figure in ANH galaxy packaging that you're currently seeing in Target is an "A-Lister" repack. It's the 2017 ANH Darth Vader. -Justin
Man I have my phone and car volume maxed out and can barely hear you talking. Other then audio great video guys. Thanks for the content.
Did you try turning the road volume down? Lmao Jkjk. Yeah I know it’s low in the video, I tried to raise it up in post and I think it sounded worse so I kept it as is. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Looking at all of these side by side I think I actually like the Kenobi version best. I prefer the taller, wider helmet, and the body looks a little beefier than the Empire version. Currently though I only have the original blue line Vader. I definitely need to upgrade.
Kenobi Vader would definitely be a worthy upgrade for you! Thanks for watching. 👍🏻 -Justin
Anyone else have a hard time hearing Nate? I always have to turn the volume up on the solo videos and the ads come blasting in. Keep up the great content!
I don’t! Lmao jk, yeah this video has some audio issues. Next one will be back to normal. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Was the ESB 40th anniversary packaging the same figure as the galaxy packaging? I’ve always been confused about that
Yep! Same figure. -Justin
Ordered my Kenobi Vader. Hopefully I won’t regret it when the RotJ one comes out 😂
Nothing wrong with owning more than one Vader! -Justin
Damn son i got my ESB vader today for only $20 lmao the seller didnt he was selling an ESB vader (ps i also bought a deluxe wrecker from him for only $20 too)
Great price for the best Vader! Thanks for watching, Ace. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement thanks justin i always love ur black series reviews keep up the good content
the vaders are confusing for me haha which one is which since there is no box or description while the video is showing imn to sure which is 2014 2017 2022 vader haha etc.
Can anyone help me out? 4:19 for reference
From left to right: Blue line, Emperor's Wrath (Walgreens exclusive), ANH (2017), Empire Strikes Back, and Kenobi. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement thankyou! i ordered the ESB vader because of this. While it doesn't have the red/brown reflective eyes it does have the best head shape imo and butterfly joints as mentioned
Nate, are you saying the Vader on the 40th Anniversary ESB large-sized retro cardback is the same Vader that’s on the 1st wave of these new “slant-side” Galaxy packaging? - William
Yep, it’s 100% the same figure! Thanks for watching! -Nate
Well, tickle-me-shitless-with-a-small-feather-brush!! Natey!!!!! I did not know we had a removable helmet Vader in the bs! Then, you didn't actually show me his entire head! Next thing you'll tell me is there's a Vader with removable Reva Sevander helmet/head combo that I'm not aware of. Jockeying aside, I was also not aware the blu-lhine Vader was Rotj. So in conclusion, I seem to know very little about bs Vader! Good education brother!
Yeah that was a tiny editing mistake, I was gonna fix it but eh, I didn’t think anyone would care/ notice! I was wrong! I should have known ol Davey ol boy would have me caught red handed! Thanks as always for watching! -Nate
@@OutOfTheBasement My lack of knowledge caught your lack of editing!!! It's a win/win situation!! Go Hasbro!!!!
Do you think we will get a new Darth Vader for the 40th Anniversary of ROTJ with new sculpt (Pinless Legs).
I don’t suspect we will…but I really hope we do! Thanks for watching, Isaiah. 👍🏻 -Justin
Great comparison, Nate, been looking forward to this one. Kenobi Vader is a best of both worlds for me, love the ANH design and the robes tucked under armor, just looks so aesthetically pleasing. For a 2017 mold reuse, the articulation and sculpt isn’t too shabby either.
Thanks for checking it out, Dill! I am actually very happy I decided to pick up the Kenobi Vader! I really like it as well. Take care! -Justin
So which one is the archive Vader?? Cheers 👍
I'd want the ESB articulation but the Kenobi look, that would have been perfect.
Very true! -Justin
My Favourite is the Empire Strikes Back Vader. Plus the elbows have more bend than the others.
I also have the A New Hope and the Return of the Jedi Vaders. A new Hope looks good though the elbows don't ben as far and the joint is visible on the back of them.
One thing where the original Jedi fig wins is...the ball joint at the waist. He can arch back way more than the other two. I also like the left hand. Great for deflecting blaster bolts 😁
If they do a new Return of the Jedi Vader I'd like it to have a forward and back hinge for his sabre hand and some other hands, fists, open gesture etc.
Appreciate you checking out the comparison video, Jonathan! Thank you. -Justin
I’m gonna be honest I’ve been black series 100% but got dark times vader vintage collection and I gotta say I’m thinking of switching over that figure is beautiful
Now that figure is a masterpiece but as you know I just jumped into TVC about a year or so ago and some figures are excellent and others make me so frustrated I don’t even display them. They certainly have their own issues in TVC as well. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Do you think we’ll get a Revenge of the Sith Darth Vader next year. It would be my second favourite look of the character next to the empire strikes back version because of how clean it is and I do like the unique shoulder design on that version as well.
I really hope they do a ROTS 20th celebration. If they do, I could possibly see a Vader coming out. -Justin
Is it just me or the voice sound is really low?
It’s not just you, the audio is low on this video but it honestly sounded worse when I tried to fix it so I just left it. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Thank you for the comparison. I don't know why, but for some reason I kept thinking of the movie Zoolander. "The man only has one look for Christ sake! A New Hope!, Empire!, Revenge!... THEY'RE THE SAME FACE!
Lol I can definitely see why you would think of that! Thanks for watching, dmun888. -Justin
I wish all force users came with alternate hands. I know we can fudge it, but still.
Agreed! Would love force grip/choke hands. Thanks for watching! -Justin
What I would like and hoping is to get a ROTJ Vader with multiple head swapping including the Vader unleashed head version and the removal head. Since they made Palpatine's chair in the throne room,, wouldn't mind of having Vader's meditation seat from ESB which also appeared in the ROTJ deleted scene when Vader tries to communicate with Luke, then I'm done collecting the Black Series...for now.
That'd be an incredible set! Thanks for checking out the new video, Beskarman38. Have an excellent week! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement Yours as well, Justin! 👍 -Beskarman 38
Hello Nate thanks for the comparison of the Lord Vader figures. The first Vader figure I purchased was Star Wars 40th anniversary fig. Very movie accurate, the cloth over the shoulders and the red eyes. And then I purchased Vader from the Empire Strikes Back Galaxy packaging, was going to get Empire 40th anniversary but when I saw the new galaxy
package, had to have it. Empires new sculpting and butterfly joints makes him the best hands down for me as well. I'm hoping for a new Vader for Jedi 40th anniversary figure, with removable hand and maybe an interchangeable head and of course metal chain for the cape. Thanks again Nate for your thoughts on these Vaders and I'll catch you later, Tom
You just can't beat those butterfly joints! You can get such great two-handed poses out of them. I also hope we get a solid ROTJ release with the chain! Thanks for watching, Tom. -Justin
When it comes to just the Black Series Vader's, the only ones I have and like personally are Empire Strikes Back and the Obi-Wan series.
Those are the two best Vader releases so there you go! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement Thank you Justin. I have two other Vader figures that I love. One is the three and three quarter inch Rogue One / A New Hope Vader. The inner robe over the shoulder armor, but sculpted is better than cloth. In my opinion. So I have that and I have a customized Mafex Return of the Jedi battle damaged unmasked Vader done perfectly the way I want to keep it. I'm very satisfied with those four figures. The two that I mentioned in the last comment and these two I just mentioned now. There's so many Vader figures in general that I decided just to have a small amount of my absolute favorites.
It's funny that the first and only Vader I've gotten is the empire Vader, the massive cape is pretty awesome once you sew bendy wire into it😁
True that! Thanks for watching, Evolution24. -Justin
I agree. TESB Vader is the best. But blue box removable helmet is awesome. Something they should implement with the new Vaders, if any are made in the future.
I'd be down for an alternate head to come with a future Vader! Thanks for watching, Matthew. -Justin
Great video! I remember hunting down the emperors wrath walgreens exclusive Vader... That was another one of those years where it was slim pickings for black series collecting.. 😂
Oh for sure! I remember being excited just to have A Vader! We are truly privileged these days. Thanks for watching! -Nate
Awesome video thanks.
Maybe put a label on each would help
Thanks for watching, tubetop123! -Justin
I have the A New Hope Vader, maybe I’ll find the Empire variant at some point, or Kenobi version.
Nice! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement where did you get the Obi-Wan Kenobi Vader figure with the dual wield lightsabers? The only ones I’ve found have Vader’s own lightsaber instead of Reva’s.
I actually rather like the first release, but then I display him sans helmet. The ESB Vader is fantastic though.
Oh yeah without the helmet the OG Vader isn’t bad at all. Thanks for watching! -Nate
I know this is older and while the empire figure is still better I think I prefer the Kenobi version the most even though I didn’t care for the show that much
The perfect video comparison I was looking for. I only have the ANH but wanted the Empire and maybe even the Obi because I like the brown lens more. I'm excited about the newly revealed ROTJ Vader that seems to be on the Empire body with a new helmet.
I’m stoked as well! I can’t wait for that figure. Thanks for watching! -Nate
I have looked at this review several times now. I'm still not sure what exactly I find strange about "Empire" Vader's helmet. Maybe the helmet is a little too narrow. Anyway, my definite favorite Lord Vader is the "Kenobi" version!
By the way, I'm looking forward to all your Christmas videos. :)
Fair enough! Thanks for checking out the video. -Justin
The ESB Vader are one of the best Figures from the Black Series (in my Opinion)
True that! We love that Vader. -Justin
I want more of the robes over the shoulder armor vaders……
Fan of the ANH style? -Justin
Hell yeah!
Appreciate ya, Nerd Affiliated! 👊🏻 -Justin
i personally see the kenobi vader more accurate to fallen order than the show, the 3.75 inch one is more accurate to the show than 6 inch. Which one is the best ? id say ep4 or ep5 both are accurate to their films and worth money
I could see that! Kenobi Vader is one the best looking Vaders. That ESB one has the best body though. -Justin
Ty for making this very necessary for collectors, I agree with your top pick 🤘
You bet! Thanks for checking it out, Paranormal. -Justin
Really want a new mold ROTJ Vader with swappable heads instead of removable helmet
100% would be down for that! Removable helmets need to be retired. -Justin
Very helpful video 👍 I have the first Darth Vader release but now I want to get a more realistic Vader. Will definitely have to choose between the Empire and Kenobi versions 👍
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement I'm getting the Empire Vader 👍
Just received my blue shirt obi won with Obi won DV. Also, just had my Imperial Officer - dark times posted. I only ordered last Friday!
That's awesome! How's the Imperial Officer?!? -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement should be with me tomorrow. Once here I’ll let you know. Tomorrows date night, so it might be Friday I report back. 😂
Now we need a ROTS Vader
I'd be absolutely down for that! -Justin
I legit didn't know there were this many variants, i knew there were *some* versions but jebus...
Managed to get a Kenobi Vader in the wild, somehow a carton of banged-up Vaders made it's way into a local supermarket. Marked down to 20 bucks so i had to. I HAD to. Biiit miffed about his hip joints, turns out it's 2022 going on 23 and we just damn well can't release a Black Series figure without loose legs. Poor guy has trouble standing but when he does he looks amazing. ...also slightly annoyed with his left hand. I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's supposed to be his choking gesture but it just looks like a trigger finger hand and... just so out of place for Vader, 'specially when weilding his lightsaber. Still, very happy with him. Tried to pose him with my Ahsoka; can't stand for shit either. It's okay, it's fine, Hasbro's new to this whole toy thing, they'll figure it out eventually...
All of my Vader figures stand up no problem! Lol. Thanks for watching, Commander Rotal! -Justin
As always solid video. Even your lowest ranked Vader is that bad enough to regret the purchase or not quite that bad?
Nahhh I don’t regret buying any of them. Thanks for watching James! -Nate
I only have the kenobi Vader but I'm happy with it, I don't know why but all black series Darth Vader's price is very high. It costs about 30 USD for any ESB Vader, even the blue line Vader costs 30 USD, what is Darth Vader's normal price? I got the Kenobi Vader for 20 USD.
🤔🤔🤔
Some of these releases have been out for years. They don't stay at retail prices forever! Thanks for watching. -Justin
I got the new Vader from obi wan for 10 at macys sunday
Nice find! That’s a steal! Thanks for watching! -Nate
A bit strange to judge a figure based on the robe being on top of the chestplate when it’s just being accurate to the movie
It’s not strange at all. This is a video is my personal opinion. -Nate
I hope we get a ROTS darth vader
Me too! Thanks for watching Zeb! -Nate
they need to do a jedi fallen order or jedi survivor darth vader figure
That’d be cool! Thanks for watching! -Nate
Red Line and Kenobi are totally identical. Its a total repack repack repack! Come on Hasbro!
Oh no! Not the dreaded repack! And actually if you wanna get technical the capes are different. -Nate
@@OutOfTheBasement what the vlog of Chefatron. there was a comparison. its all the same. its a repack.
Have y’all ever looked at the hyper real Vader?
Yeah I have one! It’s pretty dope but I wouldn’t have picked it up if it wasn’t on massive discount. -Nate
Hi Friends!! Excellent comparison, i like the video very much! 👍👍
Thanks, Gerardo! 👍🏻 -Justin
Great breakdown and review! I agree with all of it! 🤙🏼
Appreciate ya, JB! -Justin
Awesome video. Totally agree Nate as always.
Appreciate ya, Wizzy! -Justin
I had that first Darth Vader for years it wasn’t till I sold it that I realise the helmet split into two pieces.😳
Don’t know if it’s just me but the sound on the videos are very quiet
Yeah it’s definitely low, I turned it up in post but it didn’t sound great to me so I left it as is. Thanks for watching Mr Grudge! -Nate
Esb best
Agreed! Thanks for watching. -Justin
Im sorry but The Empire Strikes Back Vader does not look like Darth Vader. The helmet sculpt is completely off.
To each their own! Thanks for watching. -Justin
That upcoming concept Vader looks super cool and is kinda canon considering that’s the same helmet from rebels
True! That's such a good looking Vader figure. Thanks for watching, Pale Brow! -Justin
Great idea and even greater vid
Glad you think so! Thanks for checking it out, Chickenninja55. -Justin
The helmet sucks on the new one
Incorrect! But thanks for watching! -Nate
@@OutOfTheBasement same could be said about your gripes on the Walgreens exclusive..opinions are like assholes everyone’s got one
@@DanielLopez-fj9yz Ahhh ya got me there lol
The ANH version is by FAR the best...the first issue was awful...the ESB is bad...and the new OBI version just plain sucks!
Thanks for watching, Arthur! What's wrong with ESB? -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement - it's just off...not nearly as bad as the first release but...
