Here is where I disagree. Anthony says “why take danger out of it”. A guy like Chapelle is actually saying something. His risk should be with the crowd. Not with massive political effort after a special to deplatform him or whatever. Anthony is a talented comic, but says almost nothing. His entire act is usually just a series of well written left turn or misdirection jokes. There is nothing in the actual set that easily identifiable as opinion, or viewpoint. I don’t see Chappelle as truly complaining about cancel culture. He has always been a storyteller kind of comedian who also sneaks in poignant commentary of society. And most of the time, he’s f*cking right. Josh Johnson is another one delivering that storytelling/societal commentary style… but in a somewhat ‘gentler’ way. it's not about being dangerous or risky it's about when some one doesnt like your political views, so they deplatform you THAT IS WHAT BEING CANCELLED IS!!!
cancel culture is a double edged sword for comedy. Great comedians will take on the challenge of cancel culture and continue to be great in spite of it, while simultaneously it can crush younger or inexperienced comedians before they find their voice. Shane Gillis is an example of a guy rising above his "cancellation" by just being undeniable, but I'm sure there are those that get buried and just fade away. Comedy is about taking chances and being sloppy in the first attempt at a premise or joke. Takes years in most cases for people to be just decent comics and that is where cancel culture can stifle or turn someone to a people pleaser and just spew woke nonsense to appease. Location is important as well. Texas right now is a bastion for raw comedy, NY is still the benchmark city, Boston or Philly seems to produce some gritty comics as well among other spots.
"You couldn't talk about comedians complaining about cancel culture nowadays. You would get canceled because of woke." - almost everybody in the Rogansphere 😂😂😂
Telling offensive jokes and then getting mad when people get offended is like shooting someone with live rounds and acting shocked when they get mad at you for shooting them. Go ahead and do it, but don't act like a victim afterwards.
100% agree. Anthony works at his art. He delivers a performance and he’s professional about giving his fanbase what they want. Like all comics, he’s not for everybody. But he’s so on point with this. In one year, I remember seeing Dave Chapelle, Louis CK, Chris Rock and Jo Koy absolutely BOMB. I mean, at an unforgivable level for any fan. Given what we paid for tickets, vs how little effort they put in, made us never want to watch anything with them in it again. Chapelle was by far the most expensive, and easily the worst. He knew it too. He was on that stage for 27 mins, and leaned on Rick Ross to deliver the rest. I expected it from that moron Jo Koy, I was dragged to that. Lesson learned.
American comedians complaining about cancel culture is so first world. Welcome to india where you can be in prison without a trial for two months without any evidence, have a prejudicial judge, and then released because of lack of evidence but spend the rest of your career not announcing the venue of your show until the last minute for fear of violence.
I understand what you're saying but why do you think things in the states are the way they are? Comedians like Lenny Bruce (not that long ago) spent their entire careers being thrown in jail for saying things deemed "inappropriate" on stage - as in, for *words* they *said* on stage. It's not like that anymore *because* people fought back and let their voices be heard like this. Countries progress in this way.
@@olduncow4273 well the exceptions of freedom of speech seem to have a good intent on paper. However, anyone with power be it in the form of resources, influence or a platform, enjoys the benefit of complete freedom of speech. So in effect any law that places conditions on free speech only functions as a convenient legal tool to dismantle dissent against people in power. The selective use of these sections of the law against artists and detractors of governments coupled with news outlets, party officials and individuals openly violating the same sections but facing next to no consequence pretty much illustrates the same. In essence, free speech with conditions only makes speaking freely difficult for those without power while pretending to safeguard the rights of the citizenry.

This.... he even makes a joke about how him constantly whining about Trans people is hacky in his latest special.. then still does it. He's just out of ideas imo. I don't hate Dave either, his comedy is decent. But this dependence on punching down is wrecking his career.
five hilarious specials about a ridiculous subject.
@albow4oops5 ok Dave
Dave is the most overrated comedian by far. I don’t understand why everyone praises him so much.
After a second time I thought dude was sus
'I hate when comedians complain!' as he proceeds to complain 😂. I agree with him though
Jeselnik has gotten a little bitter recently watching everyone around him blow up so much
Yeah, he's turning into a comedy lolcow
Yeah this is obviously jealousy.
I love that Jeselnik is now a comedy lolcow lololol
Right 👍🏻 Comedians want to be able to say anything, but you can't say anything back...go back to the 90's before social media then 😂
Here is where I disagree. So of course he can say that he “wants comedy to be dangerous”. He never has a risk of being deplatformed, canceled, or people coming after him with any sort of passion because he says almost nothing of his actual opinion or of any consequence or viewpoint. Really great joke writer tho, and a very smart guy.
Nailed it
Summed it up perfectly.
Nah, you missed the point. Even with all the "political effort", Chappelle signed an $80 million deal and got all the awards. THAT guy complaining about getting canceled on SNL is just goofy
@ money doesn’t mean artists (a low form some would argue but stand up is art) shouldn’t be allowed to create what they want without fear of being cancelled and/or deplatformed.
@ Yes, but that's the thing, THERE'S NO RISK OF BEING DEPLATFORMED lmao
After they tried to boycott Chappelle he resigned his deal, and all the comedians crying about being 'cancelled' are the comedians who are most succesful and have the biggest platforms.
It's all fake
He hates comics who complain then complains about Dave Chappelle
Calling someone on their bullshit is not complaining.
What part of this sounded like a complaint?
I gain more and more respect for this guy every time I watch him.
Like AJ but he can’t shine Ricky’s 👞 shoes 👞
Dang i remember when Anthony used to look clean cut. Back when Tosh.O was on tv doing numbers. Man how time flys and people change 😂
"comedian complains about comedians complaining about people complaining. more to come at 6"
Anthony - “I hate comics complaining in general “ on a 30 second clip of him doing nothing but complaining.
that's all he does recently.... complaining about other comics being more successful than he is :D
In a podcast, not a set. Maybe use your two brain cells to think instead of type.
he's talking about comedians complaining during a comedy set. talking on a podcast about your thoughts are separate from the snowflakes crying about "cancel culture" yet they make $50 million and have comedy specials...they aren't cancelled, they are pussies
@ I’m well aware of what he’s talking about. And I could find hours of him complaining on podcasts. It’s all he does after flattering himself.
I'm tired of people complaining about Anthony complaining about comedians complaining about people complaining about comedians.
There is no such thing as cancel culture. If you're good at your job and people laugh, then you'll have a career regardless. If you suck at your job and people hold you accountable, then that's part of life. People don't want to be held accountable anymore these days and start whining that they are being 'canceled'.
I'm tired of Anthony Jeselnik complaining about comedy/comedians. Stop being a baby dude
I'm tired of you complaining about Anthony Jeselnik complaining about comedians
@@platinummonster9755I'm tired of you complaining about that guy complaining about jeselnik complaining about comedy
I'm so tired of people contributing to threads that are entirely about them complaining about other people's complaining.
Who is taking more of a risk, Jeselnik here, naming names, or Dave Chappelle in his netflix clap-fests?
@@Semiotichazey I'm tired of people not continuing complaining on a thread where everyone is complaining
For someone who says he hates comics complaining in general he sure complains a lot
I love people making ambiguous remarks about people complaining.
he's 100% right
We should thank his ex for the removal of thumbs down and netflix ratings....
I miss thumbs down button. 😢
He makes good points I didnt consider before
Fair point
Thankyou!!
Dave Chappelle had great skits, but I think his stand-up is overrated. Putting him up there with Carlin never made sense to me. Lol..I dunno..thats just my opinion anyway.
A very different and unique take. Congrats
I too remember when Dave Chappell used to be funny.
Jeselnik is one of those comedians that will always stay in the lane from what the mission is. Laughter and discomfort. Comedy.
Ricky Gervais does not whine like a baby about cancel culture. He brilliantly and daringly satirizes it
RG is a boomer yelling at the clouds
@@TehSeksyManzThe world knows who Ricky is. Most people in the US don’t know who Anthony is. I guess the cloud yelling is effective.
@@michaelr5606 He gained his fame before yelling at the clouds. Your argument makes no sense.
@@TehSeksyManz AJ is incredibly talented but he's also remarkably monotone and you can now pretty much guess his punchlines based on his "shocking" but fairly similar set-ups. The whole "yelling at clouds" indictment is such a tired cliché used to dismiss anyone who's over 30. Gervais doesn't scream: and his targets aren't clouds-- they are pumped up phonies who largely control the corporate entertainment industry
I agree he satirizes it, but I would differ in that I think he does it poorly and boringly
Insightful clip.
I cant remember the last time i heard a comedian complain about cancel culture.
He really doesn't know or understand Dave Chappelle if he thinks that. Has he ever seen Chappelle's routine? He's DEFINITELY not worried about cancel culture. They have tried to cancel Dave plenty and it has failed every time, without a BS apology.
Jeselnik is a master of comedy. His best bit is the prison warden story. True or not, it's amazing.
Who is Jeselneck?
Him complaining about comics complaining is just too perfect.
this is his new full time job.
"I hate comedians that complain in general" proceeds to complain about comedians complaining 😂
Anthony has the calm intensity about him. Bro doesn't blink at all, but seems chill lol.
“I hate comedians complaining in general” he actually says this amid himself complaining about comedians who complain.
But shoot, you aren't complaining about it, are ya?
@@ayoungethan Pointing out someone else's behavior, and saying that you "hate" someone else's behavior are actually two completely different things ......
I don’t see Chappelle as truly complaining about cancel culture.
He made commentary about an overly sensitive society- especially because they were completely misconstruing what he *actually* said and meant by it.
He has always been a storyteller kind of comedian who also sneaks in poignant commentary of society. And most of the time, he’s f*cking right.
Not always, but he speaks a lot of truth, nobody is off limits, and I think he is still funny as hell doing it.
I love Anthony’s comedy style and perspective on a lot of things, but I think he lumped a wrong one into this generalization.
Josh Johnson is another one delivering that storytelling/societal commentary style… but in a somewhat ‘gentler’ way.
He’s killing people with kindness, along with comedy, which is another great way to shake up some closed minds.
Anthony, Chappelle and Josh ALL masters of the comedy craft, in different ways, just highlighting the absolutely absurd
I agree, my observation is Chapelle was more sharing his disdain for cancel culture moreso than complaining about it.
@@cliftonharmon2403and he made it fucking funny
@@cliftonharmon2403that's complaining. If a parent cooks rice and beans for dinner and the child goes on to express their disdain for rice and beans for 2 or 3 years, that's a complaint about rice and beans
Is this Dave's burner?
Comedians are complaining for all of us that don't have the ability to do it on a world stage.
Everyone likes to play the “they’re trying to cancel me 😭” card. Just keep doing what you do, if you have the fans, you’ll remain successful. Look at Louis CK. Dude got an award AFTER getting canceled lmao
He wasn't even cancelled. He was rightly ignored for a sexual pervert. And same cancel culture whiners were still crying about him not getting away with that because "he's a comedian".
@ his show was literally cancelled lol. He made a movie that was never released. But yea, if the people complaining had their way, he’d never work again. Thankfully, he has enough fans and talent to come back and still sell out shows lol 🤙
I remember Patrice O’Neal killing this guy in a roast. What he said still stands
Dave Chappelle had a guy with a knife rush him onstage. His life was put in actual danger by people claiming his words = violence. They failed in canceling his gigs but almost succeeded in canceling his life. Jeselnik doesn’t seem to get that
it's not about being dangerous or risky it's about when some one doesnt like your political views, so they deplatform you THAT IS WHAT BEING CANCELLED IS!!!
cancel culture is a double edged sword for comedy. Texas right now is a bastion for raw comedy, NY is still the benchmark city, Boston or Philly seems to produce some gritty comics as well among other spots.
...wow that was one hell of an example of mental gymnastics. complaining about complaining about complaining
Dude helped give us Amy Schumer of course he doesn't want to hear people complain
finally someone said it. props
His special was awesome ❤
One of the best if 2024
“Hey Jeselnek - hold my lantern! There’s gold in them thar hills!”
OMG YES THANK YOU DUDE. I've been talking about how much I hate this shit for years to my friends, Jeselnik is the fucking man bro.
I love comedians who tow the line for the establishment
"I hate comedians complaining in general" and proceeds to complain.. 😂
Some complaints are more valid than others, not all complaining is the same..so AJ is right
Complaining about where artform is going and complaining about how audiance are reacting are not the same thing
I don't care one way or another about his philosophy, but I love Jeselnik's comedy
Goddamn he's hilarious
Nowadays being “canceled” simply means reading and caring about what people say about you online
Good point
"You couldn't talk about comedians complaining about cancel culture nowadays. You would get canceled because of woke." - almost everybody in the Rogansphere
😂😂😂
What a badass, intelligent guy.
You know what the primary function of comedy is…………be funny!!! You’re not special. You’re not a crusader. You’re just a comedian. So make me laugh.
Telling offensive jokes and then getting mad when people get offended is like shooting someone with live rounds and acting shocked when they get mad at you for shooting them. Go ahead and do it, but don't act like a victim afterwards.
Whenever jeselnik talks it reminds me of what Andy Warhol wrote about Bruce Springsteen in his diary: “The Boss talks dumb.”
Love to know where and when you saw Louis bomb.......
@ Australia, Nov 2022. 2nd 1/2 of the show people started walking out, myself included. He was my favourite comic. Was.
He’s right!
@@boombahhh its not the same. Theres a difference between people having differing sensibilities and a state actively clamping down on dissent
India does not have full immunity to speech
.or freedom of speech in our country and its good.
@@NoelCor type as many paragraphs as you want. Indian ethos is not the same as American one. Freespeech will never work out in India and with so many restrictions there are so many anti India forces in this country, if there's freespeech then it'll be like we are killing ourselves with kindness.
fuck that.
if one wants absolute free speech, USA is a better country provided one is able to survive in their dystopian culture.
He’s right… and also hilarious that the people who complain about cancel culture, are almost always the first in line the be pissed about things they don’t like
This guy is so worried about what other comics doing, and none of them pay him any attention 😂
This guy fucking gets it!!!
It depends on how to define danger. When someone protests you that’s not dangerous. When someone claims you’re inflicting violence on them with your comedy, then that’s dangerous.
He doesn’t suffer from dealing in “dangerous comedy” he just occupies a super niche category of comedy that doesn’t have a huge fan base and he’s not great at it.
Who are you even talking about? This dude is huge
@@fancykarlmarx "Huge"? Is "huge" really the word you wanna use? The guy that has cancelled his last few events and has nothing scheduled in the near future? The guy with a total net worth of about $3 mil (The average net worth of an upper middle class American). He's as huge as any one of the thousands of people you see driving around in a Ferrari or big Mercadies SUV in a big city. He's literally a *nobody* when it comes to standup comedy. He's literally a nobody when it comes to a room full of successful people in general. Who are YOU even talking about? He's objectively exactly like I said, a comic that fills a very niche category of comedy and he's not even that great at it.

Most legit comedians at this point have said, whether it’s been on podcast or somewhere else, that the cancel culture ship has sailed… I don’t know what Cappelle has said recent, but there not many comedians out there right now saying cancel culture is stopping them

The funny thing is he's calling people hacks when he hasn't released anything that is worth even mentioning + those other people. He's calling hacks are the ones that are continuing to push comedy further and further and he's not going because he's not really pushing any boundaries at all
