Everything needs to stop being black or white. This isn’t going to be a popular opinion but I see what she was trying to do in having this conversation. She opened up the floor for a discussion about it. It’s true that it wasn’t that long ago that you could personify a black person for Halloween if you were white. I’m the same age as her and yes I’m white. I knew a white girl who dressed up as Michael Jackson, and made her skin darker (that was when he still did have dark skin) for Halloween back in 1984. We all thought it was fantastic because she idolized him and it seemed fitting. It never crossed our minds that it was wrong! I wouldn’t do it nowadays and I truly do understand why it would be offensive. But again I understand what Megyn was trying to say and it could have been a more positive teaching moment
We expect people who attended college to at least take 1 social science class and therefore have a little idea about different cultural backgrounds, how to conduct yourself in public....
