I just saw it as a dumb@$$ comment she didn't think much of at all, as with most white people who grew up in the suburbs, only seeing a black person for the first time when they go to college or get a job in the city. She should have said that blackface was normalized in her culture when she was young because of media at the time as opposed to saying it was ok. Well, what's the benefit of painting one's face black to make fun of black people? Is there some truth that that is promoting? Speaking the truth in that context only means speaking to what is true for the benefit of others. Plus, Jesus never did things that were meant to offend human beings. He was merely critical of specific actions that were popular. Also, by that logic, shouldn't you be advocating committing crimes since the notion that crimes are okay is unpopular? What if I started advocating for incest be legal because it goes against what most people think is okay? Anyway, you are only required to speak things that are obviously true and beneficial to those you are talking to. For example, if you live in an area where a bunch of people are getting dangerously drunk, you should probably speak up to people about that. And Megyn didn't say she hates black people, but many people who don't like certain races of people aren't that direct about it and will instead give hints that that's how they feel.

As an "African-American," there is a difference between black-face and cosplay/costume. One was intended to degradingly mock stereotypes as being the normal consensus of a racial group, and another is just dressing up. I think the movie "The Party" is funny, not at all to poke fun at Indian people with Seller's role, but how much he seems to screw everything up by accident (like Mr. Bean). We live in a sensitive generation. I'm not going to stop watching westerns with white people playing as natives, the ones I remember watching don't degrade them, just portray them.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>> From WIKIPEDIA, the biography of AL JOLSON, the most popular blackface performer in the USA who has been unjustly demonized by the black supremacists of the nation:
Jolson's legacy as the most popular performer of blackface routines was complemented by his relationships with African-Americans and his appreciation and use of African-American cultural trends.[12] Jolson first heard jazz, blues, and ragtime in the alleys of New Orleans, Louisiana. He enjoyed singing the new jazz-style of music, often performing in blackface, especially in the songs he made popular, such as "Swanee", "My Mammy", and "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody". As a Jewish immigrant and America's most famous and highest-paid entertainer, he may have had the incentive and resources to help break down racial attitudes. For instance, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) during its peak in the early 1920s, was estimated to include about 15% of the nation's eligible voting population, 4-5 million men, though probably much smaller.[41] While The Birth of a Nation glorified white supremacy and the KKK, Jolson chose to star in The Jazz Singer, which defied racial bigotry by introducing American black music to audiences worldwide.[15]
While growing up, Jolson had many black friends, including Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, who became a prominent tap dancer.[23] As early as 1911, at the age of 25, Jolson was noted for fighting discrimination on Broadway and later in his movies:[42] "at a time when black people were banned from starring on the Broadway stage",[43] he promoted the play by black playwright Garland Anderson,[44] which became the first production with an all-black cast produced on Broadway; he brought an all-black dance team from San Francisco that he tried to feature in his Broadway show;[42] he demanded equal treatment for Cab Calloway, with whom he performed a number of duets in his movie The Singing Kid; he was "the only white man allowed into an all black nightclub in Harlem".[42] Al Jolson once read in the newspaper that songwriters Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle, neither of whom he had ever heard of, were refused service at a Connecticut restaurant because of their race. He immediately tracked them down and took them out to dinner, "insisting he'd punch anyone in the nose who tried to kick us out!"[12] According to biographer Al Rose, Jolson and Blake became friends.
British performer Brian Conley, former star of the 1995 British play Jolson , stated during an interview, "I found out Jolson was actually a hero to the black people of America. At his funeral, black actors lined the way, they really appreciated what he'd done for them."[49] Noble Sissle, who was president of the Negro Actors Guild , represented that organization at his funeral.[50]

I’m a liberal and I’m really tired of the outrage. What she did was wrong and stupid but what ever happened to forgiveness and learning from our mistakes? The problem with the left is that all we have to stand on is identity politics. Why? Because the majority of corporate Democrats refuse to stand for the issues Americans care about: affordable healthcare, better wages, affordable college, jobs, ending needless wars. So we simply go for the low hanging fruit that won’t upset our corporate donors. It’s sickening.

The way she addressed her comment, even though it was not ment to be harmful, everyone jumped on the bandwagon and went running through the studio with torches and pitchforks waving the racist flag. Come on America, that stereotype should be long gone and in the past, but is it really! I think if your going to call the kettle by another color then you might want to go after every single actor and actresses who every put makeup on to play a person of another race or color.
Then and only then can you really be fair. By the way, if the comment was so racially charged, then why wasn't it edited out of the show instead of broadcasted.

Kids have been dressing up in white face (clowns) and black face (hobos) since Trick or Treat was invented (this is assuming she meant black face and not "Blackface" - as in minstrel shows). She made the whole thing much worse by apologizing and calling in the PBS folks to "educate" Americans. The woman clearly is intelligent, but has terrible instincts and judgement. The underlying fallacy of all of this is conflating two different categories. "Black face" is dressing as a "black person" to portray, usually mockingly, that fundamental race, and is usually not mimicking an actual subject, but "blackness" as an abstraction. Therefore, it is racially derogatory because race is the actual object of the costume. But a person, such as Diana Ross, happens to also *BE* black, so as an matter of accurate appearance, a person with lighter skin would *de facto* darken their skin, among matching other nonessential physical features, without the actual object of the costume essentially being "blackness," or "curly headedness," etc. It's quite technically true to claim that this is not RACISM, no matter how many unintelligent woke people's toes that steps on. The racial essentialism here is actually on the part of the people complaining about it, because they're the ones that PRESUME race is essential, and that therefore, any de facto use of skin color itself, regardless of the object or the intent, is inherently racial. Woke people don't like to make that fundamental distinction because they want to preserve the abstractness of race so that they can categorize whatever they want under it and continue to provoke false hysteria. It's really a pseudo-moral issue. Dressing up as a "black person" is racist; dressing up as Eddie Murphy and making your skin dark is NOT.

HAS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY GONE ABSOLUTELY CRAZY? I had heard a little of this story but I did NOT know she was FIRED for this!!!!??? I am NO FAN of Megyn Kelly, in fact, I found her approach to interviewing people to be unprepared, and lacking in intellect, at best and nauseating at worst. But THIS? She said, on the air, that she saw nothing wrong with a white person dressing up as Diana Ross for Halloween... something that, if you were a white person dressing up as Diana Ross, would necessitate applying a darker foundation, and she is suddenly attacked as a racist and then FIRED? I don't think there's a damn thing wrong with it EITHER. SO, let me get this straight, the whole WORLD Is supposed accept BRUCE JENNER as "Kaitlyn" and all without judgement or your just a hateful, homo/transphobe but a white person dresses up as their idol for Halloween, who happens to be black, and a television commentator CORRECTLY states that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with this and gets ATTACKED, called a racist, and THEN gets FIRED? This is about as INSANE as it gets. I think it literally is certifiable INSANE!!! I cannot even believe what I am seeing and hearing. Wow.

She's not a racist. Her comment was not racist. This is stupid and I can't believe they fired her for it.

I’m on the left spectrum and I don’t think she should be fired.
She and others like her asking probably should take an english class that focused on the times before the civil rights. BLACK FACE WAS USED THEN and it WAS RACIST! Wearing it today symbolizes those times the whites were okay with oppressing colored people, by portraying them as animalistic, or beast like as the whites appeared in black paint as they did plays/movie. They made the black characters inferior to the whites. For example, watch the original Birth of Nation. Why should anyone tolerate that shit in 2018?
and shit if you want to be Diana Ross, by all means be her, you don’t need to change your skin color. Do we see little colored girls change their skin color on halloween when they turn into their favorite princesses? No.
For people who clearly are illiterate in the topic, I feel for them, and don’t think it’s appropriate to call them racist because they were clearly unaware.. Megyn is a journalist making millions, there is NO way that she did not know but in the scenario that she did, it is time to teach her, reach out, have a calm dialogue and move on. We need all types of voices part of the news, as I can’t tolerate FOX for their partisan ways.. It’s not okay what she said, but it is okay that she centered right - it keeps us out of the bubble.

This is getting out of hand. When it comes to racism it's all about intent. Start with the definition of racism: "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." A person can dress up like Black Panther out of admiration for that character without being a racist.
