    I'd recommend any owner of a BOSS looper to get a dual footswitch. With the RC-5, it's a true life changer. It brings a lot of control, makes it more versatile.
    People who are not reluctant to take the DIY path should know that such a unit is very easy to build. Also, it doesn't need to be powered. To reduce even more the cable madness, I've made the cord short and captive on mine, the only connecting part is the TRS plug at the end.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад

      👍🏻 Either that or to expand beyond 2 pedals, have a look at the Morningstar Midi pedals as well.
      Can make an RC-5 into a 9 button looper!! Lots of control. 👍🏻

    • @31plemoine
      @31plemoine 3 года назад +2

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK Well of course, but... not the same budget :D
      The total cost of my DIY unit was below £17. If I'd been willing to compromise with the sturdiness, I could have cut the cost down to £5. The MC8 is a nice device for sure, but we're not in the same ballpark.
      Also, you'll notice that the set of commands bindable to the TRS foot pedal is slightly richer, in the domain of rec/play/overdub, than the ones triggered by midi CC messages. For example, the momentary rec/play can be very useful on stage, and yet this can't be achieved with midi messages. Not on the RC-5 anyway.
      If some day I buy a midi controller, I'll still use my unit for extra control, precisely for that reason.

    Just got the RS-7 pedal to day and connected it to my R5, Set the top section to go forward and the bottom to go backward. We only use the R5 to play our custom made percussion tracks so I went into the setup menu and selected the start/stop function on the R5 so I do not have to do that double press to stop the loop. I really dislike that requirement which, as you know, the R5 defaults to. Thanks for the help. I am in Florida by the way, but I love Billingham bags for my camera equipment :)

      Hey. There is a looper built into the Cube Street 2. Found this on Page 7 of the Cube Street 2 Manual:
      *Operating the looper with a footswitch*
      You can also operate the looper by using a footswitch (FS-5U, FS-6 or FS-7, sold separately).
      - If a footswitch is connected, recording starts not when audio is input but when you press the footswitch (connected via the plug tip).
      - Playback and overdubbing operations are the same as when using the [LOOP] button.
      - If you press the footswitch (connected via the plug tip) twice in one second, the looper stops.
      - If you hold down the footswitch (connected via the plug tip) for two seconds or longer, the phrase is cleared.
      Hope that helps - RTM

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Месяц назад

      You just need to change the drums so they don’t follow the looper on / off commands.
      Go to MEMORY>RHYTHM>STOP>change this to OFF.
      Be aware that you will then need an additional button to turn the rhythm off or bend down and press the button. The nice part is if you leave the START as LOOP START then it will kick back in again when the loop does.

    In regards to the RC-30, I'm curious if there's a way to configure it such that the memory inc/dec is a press and the fx/track switch is a hold rather than the other way around. If not with the FS-6/7, would another type of footswitch be able to achieve this? This is quite literally my only gripe with the RC-30. Other than that, it's the perfect looper for my needs.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Месяц назад

      It’s a limitation of the way the RC-30 was developed and built at the time. You can’t change the functions of the other pedals I’m afraid.. you would have to upgrade to the RC-500

    • @EvilLadderGaming
      @EvilLadderGaming Месяц назад

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK I figured as much. Probably a firmware limitation. Side question: On the RC-500 do you know how to configure it such that each memory slot plays back in the configuration in which it was saved when toggling between slots during playback? By that, I mean that if the memory slot is saved with both tracks selected, it should play both tracks when toggling back to that memory slot while playing live (i.e. using the memory inc/dec functions) regardless of which tracks are playing at the time of the memory inc/dec. This is how the RC-30 behaves and it’s essential to my workflow, but the RC-500 doesn’t do it by default. I can’t imagine that they would take such a basic and useful feature out of the newer gen models.

      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Год назад

      Hey 👋
      So this is tricky but you would have to record the parts next to each other on memory. But the Boss loopers don’t auto save. You would need to save the loop before moving up to mem 3. The good thing is that it will carry on playing whilst you save and then you can move up. This is where I would use an FS-6/7 pedal and have save as an option. Then the other pedal would be mem up. Fades can be done with an expression pedal. Have a look at the FS-1-WL and it’s really capable expansion. Alternatively something like a Morningstar.

      Ahhh so you wanna pause the loop, not stop and restart the loops? Unfortunately not with the Boss loopers. They are designed to reset to the start of the loop. The trick way to do this is to use an expression pedal for dropping the volume in and out at the right moment. You could technically do this but it’s a lot of practice. 1 question here!
    Let’s say I set the footswitch to “MEMORY INC”.
    If I’m playing memory01 then press that footswitch (so it changes to memory02), will it continuously play memory02 right away?
    Or I have to press the pedal again to play that memory02 loop?
    If it plays right away, I could use memory01 as the verse section, and memory02 as the chorus section.
    This is a killer feature for me and I can’t see anyone demo it. I really wanna know if it works before buying the RC-5 + footswitch combo.

      So it sounds like you may have ‘missed the window’ in timing and it has recorded an extra bar or two of silence.
      This is practice practice practice. Try and push the button as close to the best as possible. Maybe try adding the rhythm to make it easier to get used to
      So you think you recorded 4 bars but then you might have pressed the pedal a tad too late and then it’s recorded an extra bar for you.. cause it doesn’t assume. Anyways, hope this helps! 👍🏻

    I want to buy fs7 but Im hesitant. Do it really needs to have an adapter(psa)
    or could you just use it without.

      You can use it without power.

    Hi John, may I ask if its possible to assign an FS7 differently per memory on RC5? for example in memory 1, I want to assign FS7 as my Tap Tempo(A) and Rhythm on/off (B) and on the other memory, I want to assign FS7 as Play/Stop(A) and Undo/Redo (B)? Would it be possible?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 года назад

      Yes it is. All settings can be global or per memory which is really powerful and a clever move cause it just opens up the possibilities as you change memories. 👍🏼

      I would like to apologise to you.
      I got mixed up with the menu system of the RC-5 and the RC-500.
      You can on the 500 set it to per memory.
      You can’t on the RC-5. It’s system only.
      I’m so sorry I got that wrong.

    Thanks for your video! I have the RC 30 and just bought the FS 7 foot switch and I can't figure out why mine isn't working like you've done in your video. What settings is yours on? It wont turn on and off the loop FX, only changes the tracks with B. When I press A in both momentary and latch mode it scrolls up though the memory and I can't get it to go one at a time or scroll down. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

      I wasn't using a TRS cable, just a regular patch cable to connect the pedals, so I bought one and that may help? I don't know!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад +1

      This is your answer. You need a TRS cable if plugging into the A&B socket to control the different options.
      Try this out and let me know how it goes but the TRS cable will be the answer.

    Since when did a footswitch become a pedal? Words matter. A pedal = an effects pedal. Often effects pedals have more than one switch on them. Lets make things confusing by having effects pedals and then referring to all footswitches as pedals too...Good plan!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 года назад

      Pedal literally means ‘foot operated lever’ and can mean a range of things.
      But I feel your frustration and I welcome the feedback. 🙏

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK The Boss RC-500 (a looping pedal) Has three "pedals" on it. Yeah right. Not really looking for dictionary definition. It's an accepted convention that Boss - (an effects pedal company) doesn't seem to get. I.E. "My new drive pedal has two pedals on it - one for boost and one for bypass" said no one ever. "My new drive pedal has two footswitches on it etc... I'm not frustrated...more like amazed that Boss doesn't know what a footswitch is called.
