    Really helpful vid, so many "beginners guide" vids out there. This is the1st one I've seen about drum parts on/off. Now I can have a simple hi hat only pattern assigned to my fs7 for switch. And have a pre recorded drum loop on track b that doesn't sound like its was created on a 90's Casio keyboard. great stuff

    Just bought the RC10R for the drums last week after watching a gazillion videos of the 10 and the 500. Now here your videos comes and I see how sufficient the drums on the RC500 are for me. So thanks to you I’m gonna sell the the 10R again and get the 500 😂 It’s looks so much more intuitive with the one extra button and super cool to be able to switch certain parts of the drums off. That I’m planning to do via a midi pedal…

    I've just received the RC500. Its my first looper and the learning curve is Huge! I'm on day 3 and I am pretty sure the drums default to volume 100 which is loud!. You have to turn them down manually every time you use the drums both after power the unit down and if switching between patches. If you set the drum volume for a specific memory it will only stay that way until you are done with that series of looping on that particular memory slot. Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update.

    Hey Brent, I know basics of how to back up my RC500 to my computer, and how to upload .wav files. Have you developed a system for how to load and save playlists, and keep track of file names through the backup process? It looks like the RC loopers don't save the file names we put into the looper itself. I'm making lots of loops, and I want to offload some and keep track of them. Right now the best I can figure out is paper & pencil, or a spreadsheet, but both seem archaic. Boss tone studio doesn't seem to me to offer any additional tools for organizing files, but maybe I am missing something. Is there some other phrase memory software editor out there?

    Hi Brent , waiting for Covid restrictions to lift here in Spain and I can start busking . My question is I am looking to buy a looper and wonder about RC5 or RC500 . I’ve never used a looper so I ask your advice as a busker musician would I be better with the 5 or 500 . Is the 500 overwhelming for a first looper . Part of me thinks yer go 500 do voice loops also etc but then the realist kicks in and thinks drum beats , percussive guitar and what looks like ease I should go 5 ? So confused as these items are not cheap either so right product right time is key I guess . Thanks Brent fir any advice

    Hey Brent , great video ! Thanks for taking the time to explain this is detail .. I use the rc30 and there’s things I like about and some I really dislike so I’m trying to decide if I should upgrade to this .. I have 2 questions
    1) i like making backing tracks and saving them for songs I play . Is there anyway to assign a particular rhythm or beat to a preset so when I switch to that preset the rhythm is there ? On the 30 I save the beat to channel 1 and vocal backups to channel 2 but it quantizes it and starts the vocals at the wrong spot when I bring them in .
    2) can I turn the rhythm on/off with a foot pedal ? This is a huge limitation for the rc30 for me because if I’m filming a video and have the beat going the only way I can stop it is by bending over and hitting stop otherwise it just keeps going .
    Sorry for the long winded questions.. I’m just trying to get definitive answers before I invest the money .. don’t want to upgrade if I’m going to have the same issues . Thank you

    • @justink8156
      @justink8156 3 года назад

      You definitely can do both of these. If you save a memory with the drums on they will automatically start when you play that loop. Starting the drums with a footswitch is easy, you just have to go to the "Assign" menu and from there you can select 8 controls that can be assigned to be triggered by either a footswitch or midi. I just got a boss fs7 double footswitch just for this.

    • @justink8156
      @justink8156 3 года назад

      If you use the rhythms built into the RC500 then setting up an external on/off for the drums is a great help, otherwise you have to bend over and press the rhythm button every time.

    • @Mj-bg2uj
      @Mj-bg2uj 3 года назад

      Justin K awesome . Thanks so much for the reply . I use my rc 30 more for making my own backing tracks for songs than for looping and so having to bend down to turn it on /off while playing is impractical. I would make pre sets and on channel 1 and save the Rythym and on track 2 the backup vocals for chorus .. so I would start track 1 and let it play and then bring in track 2 during the chorus but because the tracks quantize it was starting the backup vocals at the wrong spot . Trying to stop them both by using a double tap then trying to restart it before the chorus was just way too much for me. Thanks again for the response

    • @BrentHutchinson
      @BrentHutchinson  3 года назад

      hey ... ok in short I use a midi pedal with the RC500. question 1. yes I have several beats present to different channels. i use the midi pedal to scroll through them. I have the option to start stop beats or mute beats and come in where its at plus switch channels.....oh man its really hard to explain.. my point is definitely
      upgrade from the RC30. I used it for years and will never go back. for the money do it...IMO. but get a midi controller it opens it right up. mine has 4 switches would like 8

    Hi , do you know a way to mute the drums on track two . I mean, sometimes I have a verse on track one end a chorus on tarck two (most situations/ presets I make ) . But sometimes I play a blues song ( only a 12 bar so I don 't need a verse /chorus and one track is enough. But it would be cool if I can use the second track for only a bass part . So I 'm trying to find a way to mute the drums (drumtrack) when I press the track two button where I want only the bass.
    Maby I can setup an extra pedal to mute the drum with my foot . But that will be tap dancing because I also have to press the track button to select the second channel . It would be great if you can store the "drum mute "within a track . And when i select channel one again that the drum will play again. And is it possible to programm a different drum sound or the B variation on track two and f.i. the A sound on track 1 ? . So I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot, Mike

    Only thing what's missing on the rc500 is a headphones connector.

    These drum tracks seem mundane to me. Is there a way to connect and loop a full song backing track like from an IPad through this looper? Show this, because there are many great song or melody backing tracks here on RUclips to get creative with for solo’s.

    A fairly good demo and some interesting ways of using the RC-500. The drum sounds, kits and beats are decent but the variation, fill and sequencing programmability is really missing on this unit giving a very repetitive experience to the listener. Not what you really want when doing live looping. For instance, Boss gives you the ability to pick different patterns for the rhythm beat but you cannot switch or change patterns during your looping sequence. Using the Fill option adds almost nothing to change up the beat and the only thing you can really do is go between variation A & B of the same pattern using a foot switch. The rhythm sequencing is very rudimentary and very repetitive. This is OK for practice and song writing but for 'live' looping with its rhythm options not that good. The BeatBuddy would possibly be a better option for the rhythm, looping 'live'. It begs the question of whether Boss (Roland) will produce a much more powerful rhythm pedal machine to use in conjunction with their loopers or build it into the looper itself.

    I hate that there's a crash at the start of every beat. Most modern music has no crashes at all now. Just sayin

    as far as i see it the drum on the rc 500 on a live performenc is totally useles it takes way too much time to find what you need....you don't have 2 minute beetveen songs to set up the drum parts...it might be good for at home practice but if i do that on the GIG i still have to find the drum what i practiced with..So i think Boss put in in there to justify the 400$ prie tag.

      You can save all the settings and name each track, (ie time sig / drums / drum volume without recording any loops) so that would suit your GIG needs?
