  • In this first installment of a multi-part series following the weathering of UP 5450, a Tower 55 ES44AC, I prep the locomotive for weathering and begin applying a fade. I am using acrylic craft paints thinned and applied in washes to simulate the faded paint of the prototype. Note: This is not a classic "how-to," rather a documentation of progress on this specific project. Nevertheless, enjoy!
In Part 2, I will begin adding grime to the rest of the locomotive. Stay tuned!

How do you fade the yellow?

I use a muted yellow and white acrylic wash thinned heavily. Apply multiple layers over yellow on model drying each fully with hairdryer. Only works if model is first given a coat clear matte like Dullcote.
