Every singer has their preferred tools. Some show up with nothing but a screwdriver. Some have a full range of wrenches. Some have a big hammer they can drop when they need it. Haley Reinhart shows up with a big old rolling toolbox full of vocal tools.

Actually, this first take recording, was made on the same day PMJ recorded “All About That Bass”.
The best description I ever heard of her voice is " Haley sings in cursive"!
Yet, she doesn't curse as much as the original lyrics. “Cursive” v. “Cursing”, get it?

@Tornado I agree. I personally think Oops is her second-best performance with PMJ. I also really dig her version of Lovefool. Man, that whole year, every time PMJ released a song with Haley singing, you knew it was going to be gold!
I'm a rare exception. Wasn't blown away by 7na, but Creep basically brings me to tears every time.
PMJ’s version of Aerosmith’s Dream On ft. Morgan James is my favourite. Well worth checking out.

My favorite part about watching people -- especially people who know a thing or two about vocal technique -- hear this for the first time is that point about halfway through where words fail and you can't do anything but stare in awe.

Jerry I remember the two "winners" we're both talentless country singers. Their base votes...should have been a sign of what was to come.

She was on American Idol and finished third that year, telling you everything you need to know about that show and the public's judgment.
How about AGT Champions where a circus tumbling act beat Angelina Jordan? That's even more remarkable. It's not the public, it's the producers.
There is a lot to be said about the got talent shows, the format, the contracts and how winners (and loosers are decided.
From an Angelina Jordan fans perspective for an instance (and I truly worship the artistic ground she stands on), it surely was inexplicable that she didn't win the champions version last year.
However, it must be said that got talent is not only musical talent and considering how difficult (and often unfair) it is to compare even different singers, comparing all kinds of performing artforms and trying to weigh them up against each other like that - really is an arbitrary exercise.
Haley was definitely the best that year. When she got voted out I was stunned. I hate all the talent/singing shows with a passion. Unfortunately all my roommates didn't watch anything else. Haley made me engage with that show for once. Her voice was the most unique and incredible voice to appear. In my opinion. I realize, especially with music, there is a lot of room for interpretation but again lost all faith in any tv reality-based or talent based.
She's not bad, she just sings that way. Wait until you see her do Seven Nation Army.

Scott does the arrangements and he is truly gifted in perfectly couching the singers phrasing in between the lines as both move the song forward

It's like silk drenched in a fine bourbon...just makes me melt. Haley is such a gifted vocalists. I would suggest her own song "I Don't know how to love you"..bluesy/rock sound ...it's good. Love your analysis and reaction

They performed this in one take and Haley was feeling sick that day as well. Superb singer and video
This is half right. They did do it in one take but she was not sick at all. She was worried her voice might be tired becasue they had jsut done All About that Bass and 7 Nation Army, and all this on a day off from touring. Truly amazing.
Not only can she does this but she also has an EXCELLENT soprano head voice technique extending deep into the sixth octave!!! Highly skilled singer with a stunning musicanship.
She sounds this good live also. That was without a doubt the best live performance I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see her again.
When I first saw and heard this I stood up and gave a standing ovation in my frickin living room.
One of THE BEST RENDITIONS of this song. She NAILS IT.

Her covers of "Black hole sun" and "Love Fool" are exceptional. Her Jessica Rabbit phase shows up in "Seven nation army", and "Oops I did it again. Her contemporary goodies are "Free", "Can't help falling in love". She has a large selection. Another talent to view is Morgan James. James does an excellent cover with PMJ "Dream on".

Haley is so amazing. They did this in one take after already recording All About That Bass and 7 Nation Army. It was on a day off touring in Europe. Scott asked her to do it but she was worried her voice would be tired (she was NOT sick as some people believe). He said he thought they could get it in one take so she said Ok and they did. So far the 3 videos have well over 2,000,000 views combined. Not bad for one days work.
Also, Haley uses no voice enhancement tools at all. What you hear on this video is exactly what you get in a live show. Welcome to Haley and the entire PMJ rabbit hole. Next should be All About That Bass you get to meet Morgan James - she may have the strongest voice I have ever heard.

Because I love PMJ's version of Creep, I've watched all of the dozens of reactions available on YT. This is the best one I've seen.
