If you like cellos check out apcolytica
diana ankudinova wicked game....you will freak out on this one for sure.
Please, please, please...I beg you. Please listen to Kaleo 'Way Down We Go', if you haven't already.
But...instead of doing your normal research before the song, listen to the guy sing and try to guess where he is from first.
A song you might like.

You should totally check out breaking Benjamin- dear agony aurora version
Morgan James, BTW, is a fellow alumni and graduate of Juliard. She gives some very interesting interviews of her journey in transitioning from classical/opera to singing contemporary singing.
That certainly explains why she has such a fantastic voice with this perfect control.
Might I suggest Morgan James and Haley Reinhart doing the Beatle's "Dear Prudence"?? Some of the best of both, and their voices mesh so well! Harmonies to DIE for!!!
Totally agree. Morgan's husband is on guitar on that video.
Absolutely
Morgan trained at juilliard for Opera, she is multi-talented. She also musical theater on Broadway. She had to take extra training for belting as you know they don't teach that in Opera. Morgan is special
Morgan James attended high school at Peter Johansen High School in Modesto, CA and graduated in 1999. At the age of 17, James realized it was her dream to attend The Juilliard School in New York City, and after auditioning, she was eventually wait-listed and then rejected. However, after significant correspondence with the head of admissions, she convinced him to accept her as the class's seventh singer, one above the usual six. There, she studied opera, and eventually earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice in 2003. In college, James also took a master class headed by Broadway veteran Barbara Cook.
As I adore this cover from Morgan James, I have seen almost 100 reactions !
Nobody noticed this little detail with cello, bass and especially messa di voce !! Nobody !!!! And that`s what we want from experts .
That is not true about the cello. Soprano Notes channel does a most excellent review.
@@GT_Void I know Soprano Notes and I adore her ! Probably, you are right .
But, there is a group of 10-15 profis, all of whom have excellent analyses !!
I'm OBSESSED with Morgan James' voice! Check out her cover of "Fooled Around And Fell In Love"..... Incredible!!!
That cellist played the “baddest” guitar solo in the last decade…nothing but Boss right here…
She was great, strong, has a very powerful voice, stage presence, definitely convinced me 100%, hired !! Lol, nice reaction, Maggie, and this song should go to the list for sure!!! 😁😁🎻🎻🎻
This is my third or fourth time watching your reaction. This was a tour de force for both Morgan and Scott. Great fun.
I love Morgan James. I had sponsored this video but was told it was already done so I switched to All About That Bass, In the session where my video was coming up, it turned out someone had already sponsored that before me and it came up like 2 or 3 songs before me. I had to quick find another song and I chose Sledgehammer. Maggie did not like that one and was rather critical of it. But then later on I came back with If You Don't Know Me By Now and Maggie liked it. HURRAY! 🎻
Didn't see a review of Sledgehammer :-(
But ... if Maggie didn't like it, was it the studio version (with (I believe) three backup female vocalists) or the live set she performed with her husband, where she had the call/response section? I enjoyed that *far* more than the studio version.
LOL! Thank you for your comment. Can't wait to see you soon. 😊
This vid is what got me to listening to Morgan James, she has some killer videos.
THE FIRST TIME I SAW AEROSMITH WAS THE IN MY HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM TICKET $5.OO IN 1975 IN MASSACHUSETTS .
I just want to say that I appreciate the work for putting in all those clips and gifs for our enjoyment.
Gotta admit, that Bugs holding the note had me rollin on the ground from laughter. xD
LOL! Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new reaction to Geoff Castellucci I just posted?
Listen to her duet w/Haley Reinhart, "Dear Prudence". Stellar voice.
As soon as Bugs turns up doing the high opera conducting I choked laughing. :D
This guy who does these arrangements is a genius
love what you've done with your editing! brings lots and lots made-me-smile moments to an already incredibly enjoyable work of art without disrupting or interupting it in any way.
thank you fot adding a little extra fun to my day, along wiith the sharing of your knowlede and expertise, of course. much appreciated!
That pizzicato section in the cello solo is beautiful. Brilliant arrangement, as always from postmodern.

The Buggs Bunny clip killed me! Too funny!
Always enjoy PMJ on the channel. Always loved this song and enjoyed this version as well. PMJs arrangements are always fun and interesting. Great reaction as always, Miss Maggie 🎻
So glad you enjoyed! See you tomorrow! 😊💖
I really like this interpretation,The vocal sound level seems appropriated to the musical style. 🎻
Another good one with Morgan and PMJ (just piano) is Take me to Church. Other PMJ's I like a lot, if you haven't seen them, would be Haley Reinhart singing Creep, Seven Nation Army and Black Hole Sun. She has an amazing voice for different reasons than Morgan. Morgan and Haley are both on a couple PMJ tracks, they are great together. P.S. Morgan graduated from Julliard for opera.

Loved the reaction, Maggie! I know you've done PMJ's cover of Creep with Haley Reinhart, maybe you should check out a really fun cover with Haley, Morgan James, and Ariana Savals, "All About That Bass" - Postmodern Jukebox European Tour Version. Thanks!
Thank you for your suggestion. Did you like my new reaction to PMJ featuring Puddles Pitty Party I just posted?
A great presentation of a true classic, she has a nice vocal range I love the clarity of those high notes the solo by the cellist gave this a distinctive touch. Violin and bow are two things that travel well together.
That cellist---and viola/violin players were using "pizzicato" technique. Basically, they were "plucking" the strings, versus using the bow. In guitar, they call it "finger style", when not using a "pick"....
Morgan is simply wonderful.
Post Modern Jukebox brought us Morgan and Haley Reinhardt.....they excel in ALL genres of music.....Scott ( the band leader and pianist ) just knows talent when he hears it.......this arrangement is FIRE -- the entire band is on point, especially the cellist with his solo......
Morgan is by far my favorite vocalisr. This performance is very moving. Surprised this reaction seems less than praising...more like she sees it as nice. Not for me. Ive listened to this cover no less than 20 times
Agreed! I’ve also watched this many times! It’s a mood booster.
My favorite cover of one of my favorite songs. Thanks for hitting it.
I could be wrong but I don't think she took a breath before that 7 second sustained note. I think she sang that whole phrase and sustained note in one breath.
Postmodern Jukebox is just an amazing group. I love the work they do on all sorts of different pieces. I just heard their cover of No Doubt's Don't Speak, and it just blew me away. 🎻

@@maggiereneemusic Watching it right now. It's actually the video that introduced me to Puddles Pity Party, and it was a real blast. I was so thrilled to watch his run on America's Got Talent. He's an amazing singer through and through, and I _absolutely_ adore his love of the absurd. A lot of the videos he's put out on his channel just revel in it, including videos with someone in a bigfoot costume hanging out with him. He's actually a Pacific Northwesterner, like me. From what I understand, he even worked with Teatro Zinzani in Seattle for a while. One of my favorites of his is definitely his cover of Hallelujah, but Royals will always hold a special place in my heart with him!
If you are interested in hearing the cello in jazz music, you should check out the Don Shirley Trio. (The movie the Green Book was a semi factual story of his life.) The trio was Shirley playing keyboards, a cello and a stand-up bass. He was one of my mother's favorites and I grew up listening to his music and fell in love with it too. Shirley was classically trained, but as a black man in the 60's, was not taken seriously by the upper classes, and so resorted to jazz. I, for one, am thankful for that as he was one of the greats and his music is amazing.
Thank you for your lovely comment and hope to see you on www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee?
Scott Bradlee is not only playing the piano. He basically is Postmodern Jukebox, doing all of the arrangements and collaborating with all kinds of musicians and singers to make those covers in different vintage styles.

Maggie, The music and the singer were cool, and the whole thing was out of this world. Thanks for reacts to this.
Love the song, Love love their cover, and your reaction.
Personally I'm in love with that later high note near the end, for my inexperienced ear it's not a clean note but an "ugly", painful cry which is a perfect artistic choice.
The same as Lara Fabian and Diana Ankudinova's perfect imperfect choices.
All in all love to be here as a sub.
Cheers from Hungary!

Ive watched a bunch of reactions to this song. Very ho hum reaction to one of the best performances ive ever seen
Richard has some incredibly good choices.
Thank you!! See you tonight! 😊💖
A cellist playing their instrument like an upright bass is new to me also Maggie
The key to PMJ is the quality of the underlying song(only because the work with such great singers). This is such a great song.

Wow Maggie, you have been expanding my musical taste lately. Never thought I’d be appreciating jazz but here I am. Keep it up.
Check out her duet with Marc Broussard covering Aretha Franklin, they just sitting on the couch singing like it’s nothin lol
There are a few RUclips clips of Morgan carrying notes beyond 20seconds in live performances.
I'm glad you reacted to this one. I agreed with, and wanted to know in actual musical terminology what I thought I was hearing. I was also impressed by her projection, forward placement, resonance, and yes I too thought she was a bit under on the high note, but that also told me there wasn't any pitch correction or it surely would have been used on the focal point of the piece. I think her breath control is phenomenal -- girl can _throw_ some air out there! Some of those longer ones weren't that many seconds, you're right about that, but given the amount of air she was putting into them, I'd have emptied my lungs 2 or 3 times already! Anyway, great reaction, as always!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
If you love the cello then you NEED to see 2 cellos. Pick any song they are all fab. XX
Morgan is amazing!!! She's also an opera trained Juilliard graduate, class of 2003 😍
Maggie she trained at Juilliard opera
Morgan went toJuiliard as well. For a fun cello watch The Dead South singing In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company.

You covered everything, I think, except the plucking of the strings on the violins, particularly liked that!👍🏻
Enjoyed your analysis and presentation. One nit, this performance could have done differently, but seriously it was perfect.
Maggie you asked me a few years back back what I liked musically and I replied that I've always had a thing for female voices. Mate I'd like to apologise because I was listening to this sort of thing and should have probably been more specific. Call me selfish but I figured you'd find it eventually and feel even more rewarded. Sometimes it's not about technique but about atmosphere. Love ya' mate.
Morgan James 😍 Another reactor and Opera singer did an Interview with her on RUclips over a big cup of tea 👀😁🎶
Elizabeth , The charismatic voice.
Should definitely check out her cover of Maps
Hello Maggie.
If all you've heard of Cellos is Classical, might I suggest that you react to 'the 2 cellos': 'The Trooper Overture'. 2 Cellos has made a name for themselves taking mostly 'rock' songs and doing them on cellos. They are so good that they, for a time, were the 'intro band' for Sir Elton John, who commented that he'd never seen an intro band get standing ovations for every song they played.
There is a Mexican singer who participated in La Voz México with that song, her name is Prudence. I would like you to make a video and know your reaction and opinions. I love your job
Thank you for your lovely comment. 😊 Hope to see you later today here? ruclips.net/video/UNoOvCoGscA/видео.html

Or she does Joni Mitchell really well. Check out Post Modern Jukebox “ Don’t Stop Believing”

You definitely need to see 2 cellos if you want to see what great cellist think outside the box can do with that instrument.
Anyone else try to expand Maggies screen when she was trying to figure out who played the solo? haha
Love this song.. :)
I sort of liken the cello solo here to an acoustic guitar solo. The timbre is entirely, and pleasantly, surprising.
As you know the time signature is 6/8.
She held the final chest voice note for 24 beats, and final head voice note held for 20 beats, by my counts.
You should have read further in the Wikkipedia entry about Morgan James. Here's the part that should interest you in particular: " James attended high school at Peter Johansen High School in Modesto[8] and graduated in 1999. At the age of 17, James realized it was her dream to attend The Juilliard School in New York City, and after auditioning, she was eventually wait-listed and then rejected. However, after significant correspondence with the head of admissions, she convinced him to accept her as the class's seventh singer, one above the usual six.[8] There, she studied opera,[9] and eventually earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice in 2003.[10] In college, James also took a master class headed by Broadway veteran Barbara Cook.[7]" I heard her talk about this in an interview with Elizabeth of the Charismatic Voice. You are the only other one other than Elizabeth that I've seen notice the jazz cello solo!!! Great reaction video. Thanks!
Thank you for your lovely comment and hope to see you on www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee?
Cello is rare in jazz, but OMG does it SING when it IS used in jazz. Especially with a good, woody, earthy cello sound, down right sexy when paired with jazz
6/8 is hands down the most powerful carrier wave.
..
If you want to hear cello’s, try the duo 2CELLOS
Or any of the 2Cello members individually. Especially Hauser has so much different stuff on his chanel.
The high notes may be great and the stamina she has. But what I noticed most is the punch in the vioce she has when she sings "Do!" at the end of "Dream on". Other great covers she done is Lynyrd Skynyrds, Simple Man. And Elvin Bishops, Fooled around and feel in love
I think so far this is Morgan's and Scott's magnum opus.
Take me to church....!
Since you like the cello you might try Sarah Jarosz ' Simple Twist Of Fate - Live at the Troubadour'
A Juliard graduate critiquing a Juliard alumn!! LOL
Do "Maps" with PMJ. Great stuff
Thank you for your suggestion. Did you like my new reaction to PMJ featuring Puddles Pitty Party I just posted?
That moment at 2:40 in the song sounds to me as if Ms. James is at first joining the string section as another violin, and then transitions to voice. Does that make sense?
I heard that same comment about not using vibrato at the end of the long high note. But I think it was a musical choice. The other instruments are pretty busy during the last section. So I think adding vibrato might have clashed with the arrangement. That's my guess as to why she made that choice...
I’m just catching up on your work. Better late than never. This is a wonderful cover … but if you can, check-out Voiceplay’s cover of this magnificent classic.
Her and Hailey do an acoustic version of Hey Jude that is pretty good.
While Morgan James is INCREDIBLE, check out PMJ's version of Creep featuring Haley Reinhart. So much technique!!
Will you please put Hua Chenyu on your reaction list? He's really good, and I'm surprised you haven't reacted to him. Hua Chenyu "Nunchucks" with English subtitles, from Singer 2018. I hope you'll give him a listen!

Great reaction as usual! I like some of her other work with PMJ better - Her interpretations of 'Take me to Church', and 'Maps' hit harder, IMO. That slightly flat high note on this performance drags what is an otherwise stellar performance down just a touch. I hate to nit pick, but I was glad you caught it too, some other reactors don't seem to think it worth mentioning, so, thanks for validating my ear, lol.
Thank you for your suggestion. Did you like my new reaction to PMJ featuring Puddles Pitty Party I just posted?
@@maggiereneemusic - yes! I tend to agree with you except that I think the staid flatness of the arrangement plays into the character of Puddles as he presents himself. That is to say, a quite unfunny, silent, sad clown - he sings, but nothing else.
💕
if you like Cellos try listening to the 2cellos. a good start would be them live from Sydney opera house covering "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (sorry no singing to react to)
I always heard a bit of Celine Dion in this cover and never knew how to explain exactly if it was her intonation or not
