This is so refreshing to not hear someone screaming out of the gate! And her notes are so controlled, which is how she does those staccato slides. So classy! This is one reaction I won’t soon forget!!!!
This is the genius of Scott Bradlee and his invention called Postmodern Jukebox. He takes current and classic songs and rewrites them in specific styles. He has a core of fabulous musicians then adds an ever-changing list of guest vocalists - like Morgan James. Morgan was classically trained at Juilliard and done many Broadway musicals. (Just listen to her devilish “Turn Back, Oh Man” from the recent revival of Godspell.)
I loved your reaction to this, For me, it was shock and awe. I did a deep divve into Morgan James. She is other-worldly in her talent. You wold do yourself a solid to hear some of her other stuff. She has a youtube playlist. Thankf, Larry.
The Morgan James rabbit hole is a awasome one ! Think about Morgan & Haley's acoustic version of Dear Prudence jusr as great as this one! Great job really like your thoughts and reactions to the music. Thanks !
Scott Bradley is a magician bringing the musicians and singers together to make the wonderful arrangements that he does. Glad that you enjoyed it a little bit ha ha ha. 🤣❤
My apologies for being this late, but... life happens!! Morgan is a Juilliard trained opera singer with several Broadway shows under her belt, to answer your question simply, that's "how" 😂 I'm so happy you enjoyed it aa much as I hoped you would, you up for another? I'm sure you know Queen, I'm sure you know Somebody to Love, but do you know the live 1981 version from Montreal where they turned this beloved rock ballad into an anthem? Enjoy!!
First off, THANKS so much for your generous gift. I'm always so humbled. As far as Queen, I've been a huge fan growing up with their music! Yes, I have probably watched the Montreal concert a dozen times... Freddie was amazing. I just can't get into Adam Lambert taking his spot. He's very talented, but I've always felt a little jealous of somebody stepping into Freddie's spot. It just feels...wrong... Thanks so much again!
@larryshair I knew it was a long shot, but worth the try!! I've honestly never seen or heard them with Adam Lambert and never will. I have nothing against him but, no, the only ones that get a pass from me are Angelina and Pink
Take a look at her (and PMJs) version of "Maps" or another good one to look at is "Last Nite" covered by Sweet Meg and also featuring a shot by Chloe Feoranzo on Clarinet, who also does a nice cover of "Dancing With Myself"
Larry, your reaction is excellent and refreshing - that's after I came across a dozen of these reactions since I discovered Morgan 2 years ago. Keep rocking!
All the lines in the song are getting clearer. I can finally understand the full power of this anthem. Like Haley Reinhart, Morgan is a bottomless well if inspiration, enjoy. After your beginning here, I'm surprised you got through to the big finish, but i'm glad you did.
You actually do know Morgan James, at least a little bit. She was in the PMJ version of All About That Bass that you reacted to. Check out her cover of Maps, also with PMJ, and her duet with Hayley Reinhart covering the Beatles song, Dear Prudence.
This is one of my very favortes of PMJ. PMJ getting Morgan and Haley, sure got 2 great singers. Morgan and Haley have done other songs together outside of PMJ. Also just want to let you know Angelina Jordan dropped her new EP, her new video "Now I'm The Fool" that is written my her if you could react to it I would be so happy and I think you would be happy too it is great.
Larry, I totally agree, this is the best re-interpretation of this classic I've ever seen & I'm glad you finally listened to, if not me at least another one of Subs. The pianist, artistic Director & creator of the PMJ musical collective, Mr. Scott Bradley, does all the arrangements and in my opinion is a genius. Also, Ms. Morgan James is incredible & I would highly recommend checking out any number of singles, she's an incredible soul vocalist. Another fantastic PMJ re=invention by Scott is Maps - by Maroon 5. Scott Bradley turns it into a Vintage 1970s Soul track ft. Morgan James.
YEEEESSSSSS this was way sooner than i expected you'd drop it, so so happy you did this .. NOW on to her cover of Hoziers " Take me to church " she'll knock your socks off, even if you arent wearing any .. Classical trained at Juilliard, been on broadway.. and her broadway .... way ,shines through here , she's a hell of a storyteller
This has been my favourite Aerosmith song since I first heard it almost 50 years ago. I will disagree with one statement you made.... "this is just as good as the original" IMHO, it better! You really must check out more Morgan James
I would argue that it's technically better than the original, but knowing the original gives us a greater reason to appreciate this more than if it were the original. Morgan James is a Julliard-trained opera singer, but her preferred genres are R&B and jazz. She has the best Aretha Franklin covers you'll ever hear. This is the _tour de force_ of Scott and Morgan, if not their _magnum opus._
Ok, so you've experienced Haley Reinhart's Creep, 7 Nation Army. You've heard Haley & Morgan in All About that bass. Now you've heard Morgan rewrite Dream on. NOW. You MUST see Haley & Morgan do the Beatles' Dear Prudence- w/ just an acoustic guitar...sitting and chilling like it's no big thing that they can sing like nobody's business. Go. Check it out. It's listed under Morgan James, btw.... I'll be watching for your upload. 😉
I saw that you uploaded and was thinking it was a reaction to Angelinas new video. I dont know if you already know but she came out with an Ep yesterday. You might already know but incase you don't and want to do a reaction she has 5 new songs and 1 has a video. Since im already here watching this reaction i thought id let you know just in case you didn't know. ;)
But here's the thing. She has better covers than dream on! I had tix to her tour kick off in Memphis last year. Of course work called and my wife and her BF went and loved it. They are going to see her again this coming weekend.
I've been obsessed with reactions to this song because it moved me SO MUCH when I heard it the first time. My face / brain was the same as yours throughout... "WHAT AM I HEARING? THIS IS.... WHAT AM I HEARING?" I think that for a cover this is better than the original because it reinvents the song in a different way while still respecting and presenting the full power of the song. The only other song that I had thoughts like "Can this be better than the original?" is the Pentatonix / Lindsey Sterling version of Radioactive." I would LOVE to see your reaction to that.
I watch reactions to PMJ/Morgan's Dream On (and others by them ) for the same reason. It's like trying to capture that first time high that addicts talk about.
that's the only way to successfully cover/tribute those huges songs, if you copy pasta the song, 99% of time it's a fail. But if you twist it, make it yours and bring yourself in the song with the amount of talent of PMJ and Morgan you end up with an incredible result.
Just wanted to comment on her choice to not use vibrato on those long notes. During those notes, the musicians are playing a cadence that is very similar to a singer's vibrato. By not using vibrato, her voice stands out more clearly against the busy background.
Scott, the pianist, arranges all of PMJ's music.....he finds the best vocalists ( see Haley Reinhardt ).......this one is straight outta' rock & roll re-interpreted......man, those strings are on fire, especially the cellist's solo..........and Morgan ( Julliard trained ) well, she is just in a class by herself.......
You mention that you didn't know Morgan, but you reacted to her as one of the vocalists in All About the Bass. Perhaps its time for another Moregan/PMJ team-up? Take Me to Church is very different from the PMJ you've reacted to to date
Yo, you better watch out man! Maybe you should try the elevator next time if you don't know how to use stairs, lol 🤭 now for real, I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself, falling down from the stairs isn't fun. And the song? Loved it! Loved her voice, and I loved the reaction of course! Have a good one my friend! 😉

I getcha. You have to understand that first off, if you don't pause often, you will get copywrite blocks and could lose your channel. Also, it's a reaction channel, of course, so expect pauses for both those reasons - primarily the first one. I've already had warnings.
Larry, let's be honest. She did terrible and I suspected she was on drugs of some kind. It was dragging. I definitely believe she was on drugs. I'm not stupid.
