As an A&M fan, overall I think you guys were fair. I do think the A&M Defense is going to be very good. I think you guys should take another look at what they brought into the secondary. They brought in some really good football players that were team capitan types Plus Dez Ricks from Bama. Anderson is poised to have a very good year. They may have the best safety room in the country (don't forget safety is Elko's position group). The DL is deep and very strong. This will be the best DL group Elko has ever had to work with.
Offense is obviously a work in progress. Agree that while I think their WR room is good, they don't have a top flight WR that you need to take the offense to the next level. As for the OL, one thing to remember is that they did a draft for the spring game so none of the guys that played together in the spring game have been a part of a unit that had any practice time together so I think that explains why they looked rough, at times.
Bottom line, I think you pointed out that their floor has raised because you know they will, at a minimum, be well coached and they will play a hard nosed physical brand of defense.
Actually the Aggies are the "older brother". A&M was founded in 1876, six years before UT. It is true that Texas had the better season in 2023 before losing 12 starters to the draft and portal. However, 2024 is a new season and the SEC will test team depth. I understand the Longhorn fan base will plan on dominating the renewed series; this is just how they roll. But if you check the rosters and your history, you will find out that both rosters are stacked, and the teams have split the last 32 meetings 16-16 dating back to 1980. That covers the lifetime of anyone in their mid-40s and younger.
It was slit then you saw them go 3-9 before the season ended.
Always great to get a video of Paul and Ian ❤
That's hilarious
Aggie rivalry is the oldest and most heated
Thanks and Gig'em 👍
"Also, generally more literate. You can actually have a coherent conversation with them." Damn Paul! I bet you get no backlash from OU fans because they won't understand what you said.
NFL scouts already have Scourton as a Top 10 pick next year. He was a local linebacker in Highschool. Switched to lineman and led Big 10 in sacks.
Great offering, guys. Thanks!
Texas A&M defense might be really good. We don’t know yet what the offense will be.
Does it really matter who is the primary rival vs the secondary rival? On the day you play, that team is THE rival, and the other gets little thought. Surprised to hear a legit discussion regarding A&M, rather than just a bash job. A refreshing change, Good job. The SEC will be interesting this year, and the immediate years upcoming. Probably still looking to add a couple more teams, ... maybe. Looking for Manning to take over the #1 job at some point in 2024, sooner rather than later. Just my opinion, we'll see.
Good talk 👍 15:15 I thought the same here. I’d like to have seen Elko get a twitchy, pure cover CB.
I remember in ‘21 Jaylon Jones getting beat in press man for the game winning TD against an awful LSU team.
Edgerin was always out of position until last year when York took over.
Texas A&M is a secondary rival, yet they are mentioned Texas A&M in the official fight song. 😅
That would be an apt point if this was 1917 or 1927 or even 1952, but I went to UT before A&M left for the SEC and no one got as pumped for A&M as they got for OU. OU has been our primary rival for a while. Those are just the facts.
A&M would be the “older brother” in the rivalry.
Weigman was throwing on the second string offense. The first team wide receivers that he throws two in practice are all 6’4-6”.
Good balanced video. Don't care really on the rivalry conversation as TAM vs Longhorns, it is a big game for sure and both sides really want to win it. TAM is optimistic that the coaching change works out along with their new QB. I don't doubt they will be better and play better. I don't see TAM is a world beater and play off team based on hope. They are in the same position that Texas was last year, show me you can do it and we can believe their hype. That said their defense will probably be their strength.Offense will get better over the season. Depends a lot on the O line coming together and developing. They have some good players and believe Klienman will make a difference too, but again believe it is a development process over the season. Schedule isn't too bad either tro allow progress. Solid team and worth respect.
Ou has been the big one the last decade because atm left but it’s gonna get nasty starting next season. I look forward to playing Arky again too.
I can't disagree more on aTm being a "secondary rivalry". This is THE rivalry.
A&M also has Emmitt Smith’s sone EJ who transferred in from Stanford at RB.
I think the reason the OU rivalry is considered bigger is just because of the nature of that game in the cotton bowl. Make kt home and home and the A&M rivalry would become the bigger of the two.
no because the OU texas game goes either way any given year. Texas dominates the series vs TAMU
@@dcole879 Not true, 16-16.
The Texas schools rivalry is unmatched. Ou will be and is second in the state of Texas
Gabriel brownlow dindy is a 5 star DT
Gig Em!
Ian did you see Terry Bussey?
I don’t think he’s on campus yet
Not on campus yet.
He's a true freshman from a small school, and he isn't even enrolled yet. Don't expect him to contribute in SEC games at all next year.
Old school Texas fan here: The Aggies hate us more than Texas hates them and Texas and OU hate each other equally IMO
Yet you watched a 35 min RUclips video abt us
Only t-shirt fans deal that way.
That is not true I don't think. The thing is up until now, both A&M and Texas have been mediocre for a long time and have been in different conferences. Texas and OU hate eachother more because they actually have to play, but any time I talk to UT fans they always dog on A&M and vise versa. I hardly hear UT fans even acknowledge OU when talking about A&M.
Going by the OU and UT springs games - both of your DLs gonna get brutalized week in-week out in this conference...no matter who you play. And oh yeah, they do not call holding here either.
Young Texas fan here - my disdain for OU >>>>> Texas A&M 😅
That's bc you're young and haven't played us since the b12
Yeah, IDK what he was on with that one. I haven't seen any young UT fans have as much hate for A&M as they do for OU. Even among my generation, which was in school when A&M was still in the B12, just never got up for A&M the way we got up for OU.
We will give you a reason to hate us don’t worry youngin
I could run a wing-t offense at dumb, deaf and blind tech and throw for more than 60 yards in the 1H against App St....See ya Jimbum.
I think the OU rivalry could fall off. 49-0 happens as OU falls off right before they go into the sec as Texas is trending in the other direction. Then you have the renewal of the aggie rivalry sucking up oxygen. I think whatever is left is going to be taken up by teams like bama or Georgia since those games are going to be much more relevant in deciding the conference right now. Sounds crazy but I think the OU rivalry could dwindle like Arkansas
Definitely sounds crazy. I'd say A&M is closer to being demoralized and out of the hunt than Oklahoma by a substantial margin.
@ianboyd3683 I know you have strong feelings about this so I was hoping you'd reply. I guess you're higher on Oklahoma than me
Good analysis. I think the game at A&M will be one of Texas' four regular losses next Fall, along with UTx going 1-3 in their 4 games vs Georgia, at Arky, OU in Dallas, and at Michigan. If Texas goes 8-4 next season, most UTx fans will be unhappy. But should they be? Not if they objectively evaluate their 2023 team's performance. Texas struggled badly in 2023 at 5-7 TCU, at 3-9 Iowa State, at 4-8 Houston, and at home vs. a solid 8-4 KState team. Texas' 2023 record was mostly a result of numerous weak conference opponents in a watered-down Big12 opponents than of good performances.
SO ARROGANT… smh
Homer Review
A&m is the only rival not second but the only rival that matters to Texas fans
Not true
What are you on or smoking? oU is more of a Rival!
@@HotRod82 I smoke the primo and old enough to know that OU is not our main rival. Listen to our fight song and listen to A&M fight song. Tell me that rivalry is not deep.
You're either an Aggie or 96 years old. I hate that I'm on here defending OU in any capacity, but they are THE rival for Texas fans. A&M is fun, but doesn't get the back up and the heart racing like OU.
