Gary has both of these things, while Mayer tries *way* too hard to be SRV. Not to mention that Gary seems like a genuinely nice guy, while Mayer is a douchebag of a person, for what that's worth.
I suppose better is subjective when it comes to guitar, but john mayer is far more technically proficient than gary... That's just simple fact... He's not the MOST technically proficient... but in this case he definitely has way more chops...

I like the tune, but I fell for the Gary hype and it didn't last (for me)... find him good, but average songs/songwriting.
