I’m 67 and have a passion for music. This is one of the best performances ever!
Yup!
Yeahhh I'm 64 i think same😮
Yup. Truth. Fucker always turns the page. He's amazing. Shredder and a blues man. Not many can claim that.
I can't believe how many are talking bad about this performance. What do you want? Perfection? They are human beings. This is a great tune and Gary is an amazing musician. The rest of the guys play well too. Amazing band. Great performance.
They r playin man. Dour thing Gary. Would kill for this band
+Cristian Mojica right man!
Cristian Mojica they want boring prog Rock scales going back and forth. Weeee 👎
This is the live Jam in the Van...Love it! Made me smile and took me back to a time!
Cristian Mojica no disrespect but Stevie Ray Jimi Hendrix cream Fast is not always hitting the heart .who feels it knows it .i fully agree.respect the man.
Man, ignore the more negative comments, great job to everyone in this video! True talent all around, well done Mr. Clark.
DON'T ASSUME I'M A RASCIST BUT I AM A SOUTH AFRICAN;THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO BLACK ROCK MUSICIANS HERE.SOMETIMES I ASSUME AMERICA IS ALL RAP.I WILL NEED TO OPEN MY EYES TO WHAT YOU HAVE THERE .YOU COULD SAY THIS VIDEO OPENED A GATE FOR ME TO SOMETHING I WAS IGNORANT OF.THANK YOU GARY CLARK JR.!
❤
And thats whats up. THE baddest. True raw sh*t. Period. Thats it and thats all. Nothing more to say.
First time I heard this ... I cried because of the emotional content.
Lonesome Crow Yeah, I got a lil' bit teary eyed listening to this.
You sure as hell aren't alone lol. Me too Lonesome Crow. First heard this song live with Gary playing 10 feet from me and I couldnt help it lol.
Dude i cant help it every damn time
what a great drummer! ;-)
he's alright but he looks like a cool down to earth guy
+Gioele Serena- I agree
I was in a reggae band with him when I lived in Austin! For real. Johnny. One of the coolest cats on the planet.
***** cool man! ;-)
I think he looks like Booger from Revenge of the Nerds.
RUclips: You cannot put advertising in the fuckin' solo
Agreed!!! Ughhhhhh
It's called Adblock.
If you're on phone, RUclips Vanced. If you're on an Apple device, reconsider your purchasing choices and get something you actually have control over.
So agreed right in the middle wtf?
Oh man. Wtf is an ad doing in this genius performance. Fu youbube
Fuck youtube I'm ready to move somewhere else online 😂
amazing musicianship! this song speaks on so many levels, the earning to leave a bad situation. but there is no leaving, your ship wont come in until you make peace with your current situation.
Very smooth....has retro vibes
this is the gnarliest shit ive heard in a while!
you said gnarly, you are my new best friend.
Yep
Blues is about the "feel" if you're listening to Gary Clark Jr. or any other artist for that matter and constantly critiquing their skills than you are in the wrong mindset to listen to music. Get lost in the feeling not the judgmental thoughts.
Amen
agreed
Yes! Couldn’t agree more.
God you gave me life now show me how to live because I don't know how and I hate myself for loving you but I can't help myself for loving you but I can't help myself for loving you but I still do love you you
So underrated!!!! He’s soooo cool and sound fantastic!!!!!!!!!
I'm a big fan of this dude.Absolutely, beautiful music 🎵!!!

🇺🇸 ❤️
💜
👏👏👏
I ain't got no where else to go
Would 💘 to see him perform with Robert glasper and yussef dayes
They’ve reached too cool for normality levels of ego. They still are tight and smooth.
Great song, the live version sounds even more alive and raw though!
The reason I love this guy’s music so much isn’t because of how technical (which it is, it’s just not fast, it’s a deeper level) yet because he puts his soul into every song. When the music tempo leads to a solo you can literally see the beast within start to want out and Gary almost goes into a trance like state where all of his inner emotions are being payed out from his guitar. That’s the spiritual part of music. I feel that and if you’re not feeling the music then what’s the point. This guys seriously one of if no the best guitarist of this generation
Yo. Best comment ever. I feel Gary is fuckin ready when his train pulls in
Its called the zone and Gary was puttin the stank on it
Fuckin aaa u feel what this guy delivers, and his guys are smokin share as well
Nothing technical about his playing. He’s a scale player. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good but not great. His vocal delivery is his greatest asset. Relies on effects way too much & dorks out a lot on the same note for too long when he takes a solo
@@stephenhanlin2388 you don’t understand his style. While metal-ish players focus on technical skills, this guys focusing on the feel the notes give. While yeah you’re right about his voice being a huge asset, his guitar is also adding onto that. Which in turn, is the basis of what the blues is. It’s all about the feel.
IF you hit thumbs down, just cut your thumbs off.
🪬😂
That's rather insensitive to people born without thumbs.
LOL- guess you liked it!
I know that's right brother. If you don't like this song. You have know taste at all in music.😮
People are dry as flunkin' menopause these days. That shit had me rolling.
I swear you only see this kind of comment section on guitar vids, the guitar community is so full of itself and full of egotistical douches who try to one up each other and that's lame man..... in the drum community it doesn't matter your skill level, you got a love for music we gunna hold each other up.
As a guitarist, I have to agree. I've been digging non-standard guitarists so much lately because of all the fucking shitty repetitive bullshit. All guitarists have influences, but I'm so sick of "Perfect" playing.
I do believe you have to be a bit of an egotist to play guitar. More often than not the lead guitarist is also the front man of the band, and it's hard to have the confidence to do that role without having some ego of your own. Drum players OTOH are happy to chill out and tie the band together.
Then you get keyboardists like me who are geeks and flunkeys **sigh**
totally agree
Diax1324 I can see where you're coming from, good insight.
Nothing like jamming along to some good blues and an ad comes on.
😆 I agree with ya brother
Grrrr killin my Vibe
Slide it back to replay. No commercial. Sometimes RUclips, can be a real douche tube.
BRUH
Get youtube premium broke loser
The jam in the van audio engineer is needs a raise. The recordings coming out of this "van" are exceptional.
'Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel" Jimi Hendrix. This dude feels it!
+dave jazpersen
totally agree, I find this very moving as a result
ben. harper
Discussion Over.
d jazz - I'm stealing this.. I'll add your name.. 👊🏼💯
d jazz hes a master
The blues isn't a marketable sound it's a true spirit that gives a voice to those who dont know any other way to Express pain but through sound. Its therapy
..Don't care if you disagree.... just listen
Rajah. Truth. Bless.
You are correct. Blues isn't marketable. Nobody is pushing that shit. Nobody can sell rock and roll these days. As much as it may be a bullshit argument, I'm holding on to Neil's faith and fortitude. Nothing can kill rock and roll. If one guy hears a tune and gets turned on, thats rock and roll.
if some consider this ordinary please teach me how to play ordinary!!!
Pick up a guitar and learn a couple of standard blues progressions + the minor pentatonic scale - this should help you cover most of his songs.
I think Gary is great, which is why I'm here listening to him - but he isn't a guitar prodigy, his true talents are imo his stage presence and lyricism.
Sometimes and most times too many prodigy chops makes me feel nothing extraordinary. I'm feelin' Gary!
Looking forward to hearing these commenters albums
R E O
Fucka Yoo marketing is his true talent. He has been well marketed when in reality there are A LOT of more talented real blues players out there doing it.
Gary Clark Jr. is proof that the blues still lives.
That's right. Almost lost hope
Yeah you rite paw paw. That be Soul child
Marcus King is the next gen of true blues guitarists!
ruclips.net/video/82fh5xIqwJ8/видео.html
Yup.
As a guitarist, while the technicality of his playing isn't Yngwie, fuck anyone who thinks they know better than this. I challenge anyone who gives this shit to attempt to play with as much improvisational ability and feel as this man produces. I actually find it so much more interesting to listen to an "Average" guitarist improvise such brilliant shit which I'd feel amazing if I even came up with during a planned recording session. You can feel him trying ideas out, and then finding his place.
Went to "Generation Axe" a few years ago with Steve Vai, Yngwie, and others. Frankly, Yngwie was boring. Seemed like 5 straight minutes of him playing scales really fast. I'll take a "guitar musician" over a "guitar technician" any day.
I just witnessed a man's soul being exorcised from his body through a guitar
After scrolling through the comments I've learned that the Ego is a hell of a drug.
gary is freakin awesome
SRV is better...and so is Jimi Hendrix. Ill throw Buckethead in their, although he's more technical and less emotional hehe
Testify....I couldn't agree more Marvin.
Sad aint it? Hateful trolls. Lol
Actually its 'letting go of the ego' that's a hell of a drug
Just listening to this song makes me feel like I'm cool.
I'm addicted!! I swear it sounds like he's got that guitar talking in tongues, the best I've heard in years
w warn GCJ can make a guitar gently weeps Or can make it tell a story ....cry and sing .... you gotta be able to feel the music as it’s happening to be able to do that
Damn straight. This dude is awesome! I listen to this song over and over. He got some other good ones too! He down with it
Gary didn`t ask for a comparison to Hendrix or SRV....ore Joe B for that matter.... How about you judge him by his own talent...? Giving thumbs down because of those comparisons is just stupid. He is a great artist. Judge him by that. I love Joe B, and I love Gary C. No need to compare.
Yep Hendrix was not perfect either, i dont think any musician is perfect infact any errors are a part of the soul, Hendrix also wanted to be a better vocalist, this man has it.
teddytusen
He has a gift let's face it! Its all in the bending of notes that not many guitarist's are able to achieve that is hitting the correct pitch, note on the bend''
His style is unorthodox yet unique as in keeping it simple, keeping it raw as one would expect it! But originality has come out tops, you try writing performing singing playing blues and being noticed amongst a billion blues bands around the States, dang even Zimbabwe have a blues band yet GCjr has let his style float him to the surface! Practice
teddytusen well said
I don't think anyone would be salty about being compared to Jimi..he was a legend. You can have a unique sound all your own but being compared to na legend..i think that's pretty huge
Those comparisons are unfair and very unfounded. He is just so boring to me. I really wanted to dig his stuff. I've tried and tried and just don't get it. It's whatever blows your hair back I guess....
Truth: Most critics do not have a musical bone in they're bodies.
Their*
I'm very musical by the way.
U ARE LAME!!!!
I would wonder then if you are a critic?
If by that you mean that YOU don’t like criticism of Gary Clark Jr then ok.
jimi trower 😯
You think a lot of music theory shit is musical, its privilege punks shootin mouth off music is structured true but nobody can define the abstract of mind.He stays at 4-5 note pentatonic scale using BB box musical enough fuh ya? TRUTH yeah OK? Sunglasses necessary inside van? And the 60s' just fuckin won't lay down, suicide poster nice touch .😯
there is plenty of time to rock out, WHEN YOUR JAMMIN IN A VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!
Drumming is tighter than a girls wedding dress 20 years later
lol
Hahaha never heard that one before, but I like it.
Word bruh
Lol 😂
Best simile since Raymond Chandler.
I’ve been waiting for this kid to come along for 30 years now, welcome home son and good luck. Now go do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bit late to the party when it comes to liking this band, but I've only just been made aware of them via this song. Blown away by their virtuosity and authentically cool vibe. They are the real deal.
The beauty of Gary's playing is the selective riffs and the simplicity/synchronicity with the rest of the instruments... If you are trying to compare this song with some crazy shredding action, you're missing the point. I'm a fan for life.
Έχει όλο το σωστό feeling και μάλιστα το χει πολύ!!!
NO I was not sorry for the a cidental post3
Feel me when I am listening to this song now are you on the page and I hate myself for loving you but I can't help myself for cutting the wood and bringing my money back to you hello 👋
WOW! This is my first time hearing Gary Clark Jr. and all I can say is AMAZING!! This man plays with such passion and has a great tone and voice. I can't wait to hear more of this artist. I haven't seen a man more in tune and touch with his guitar since SRV. This was the highlight of my day. Can't wait to hear more.
There should be a "stop feeding the trolls sign" .. just enjoy the music
Eric Clapton said the future of the blues will come through Gary Clark Jr. I think he would know a good player if he say one don't cha think.
that in itself is good enough for me .. clapton is the shit
fuck Eric Clapton
Possibly, what he meant was that the tradition of blues music will be played by people such as, but not limited too, GC jr. I don't think Clapton means that HE is the future of blues music but maybe one person who will act in its behalf. PS. I hate Gary Clarks music and in no way or form do I think its representative of what modern blues sounds like
i like clapton, but don't consider him to be some kinda bad ass blues player. Muddy Waters on the other hand....
John Creach just cause you don't consider him as such doesn't mean he isn't
I am very lucky to say this is my first time hearing his music... I don't have words, they just spoke for me.
Fellas, this is blues. It's not supposed to be "Beethoven's fifth srawberry yoghurt"
(if anyone gets this reference, u da man)
Is his soloing kind of simplistic? Perhaps. But it's also all improvised on the spot, Neil Young style.
This isn't planned, folks.
He's no Satriani, it's not his way of doing things.
You say average... I say authentic, and maybe not his best go at it.
I'm not a great fan of his frasing or his tone.
But his tone here is situational, and his frasing is rather uncommon, and that's good.
He is average? No, the blues is average in the best sense of the expression.
It's about the average man, the common man, it's at being down-to-earth that pure blues is good, and that's why it hasn't died yet.
Every person sitting on a porch with a guitar, thinking about life and making those third notes bleed and moan with honesty...
Are they average?
Or do they just "are, like us, for a little while"
(If you also get this one, u also da man)
U go GCJr.
poetic yet gay
+James Campbell You can't be the first without being a bit of the second.
Gongasoso I'd rather listen to this than Joe. Sorry joe. Joe can play the blues great though and it doesn't put u to sleep. 💤
be on my side, or be on your side baby!
Hell. Awesome blues. Wow. I love this.
django go home you are drunk !
there is no need to compare Gary Clark Jr with any guitar hero
Gary has his own style, really original and unique, thats something you dont see in any bar or elsewhere
and thats the sign of a great artist !
yeah i dont owe you a thang is awesome !!
+ramiro martinez you're right dudde , he has his own style , that's the important thing in music :p isn't it .
?
+ramiro martinez Well put, but at about 7:32 in this video he rambles off like for example Carlos Santana in a solo frenzy - while the rest of us are shielding our ears and kids against it.
Donnar Chytoney It is cause he has tone rolled off and wah pedal rocked back producing beat frequency oscillations you aren't hearing over tones. Sounded fine because.he resolved.it. Gary Clark Jr is the man.
I had a sucha great time watching this video! and then I scrolled down to see a bunch of people whining about his guitar playing. Makes me laugh, how much time you guys spend trying to show how cool, technical and musically aware you are on youtube comments.
I come from north east, India. Been playing for the last 12 years.
and everybody has their own unique style and that's what makes them awesome.
Do check out my channel. I've only had the strength to carry on these years, cause people from my part of town support each other no matter what .
Superb recording and audio that accentuates all of these magnificent band members and of course the guitar master himself Gary Clark Jr! 🙏
I found Gary Clark Jr. by sheer accident. Saw a movie called Chef in which the characters stop their food truck in Texas and GCJ and band was playing at a restaurant/venue. I was stunned. Fantastic talent!
Sameeee
fuck Gary... you blew my mind...More talent than the whole top 40 put together
Yessss
I think i'm eventually gonna add half a million views to this video all on my own through the course of my life time
Ed Bassmaster on drums.
Hahaha this made me laugh really hard
Hahaha put him on the news!
Do you like me?do you like the way I play?
@@hanzelgamo9640 would ya look at that
Bartle Doo
fucking sick. So stoked to find this. There is hope for current music. Too legit to quit .. youve got the sickness brother Gary and bros/. \ Come hang in the ATL anytime . I'll throw up a few Mics in the listening room in my crib and well get this down on tape via Studer A80. Ive got an audiophile following that will snatch tapes up like nuts. All proceeds to you guys to show my support for the music that defines me. Blues Rock.
Finally, music with a soul.
Finally? Where the fuck have you been?
Oh, there is plenty...
He Rocks It!!!
❤
😊@@xzysyndrome
ITS all about the FEEL, not 100 mph sanitised note perfect playing, and as far as feel and depth are concerned this guy has it in abundance, love it, great voice as well!!!
SO...MUCH...SOUL...
GROOVE.. he knows how to let it cook! Yessir!!! Btw, question his skills??? Absurd. Please post your vids...I'll wait
I am in disbelief that there are few comments trying to educate Gary on technique. ...talk about missing the point. Use your fucking ears.
"I don't believe in competition
Ain't nobody else like me around
I don't need your imposition
It ain't that hard to figure it out"
Being a technical player does not necessarily make you a great guitar player. There are plenty of guitar players who can shred scales and play fast. IMHO, being a technical guitar player gives you the tools to express yourself. What makes a great guitarist is one who can not only express themselves, but make others feel the way they feel through their playing.
excuse me, I don't know much about guitar skills or players, but I'm intrigued, what is a technical guitar player?
+izumirh If you wanna know what technical is, look up John Petrucci. There are many others, but he is just a really good example.
+Hunter Schmolze thanks, and what would another type be??
+izumirh Alex Lifeson, Brent Hinds, Paul Waggoner; for a few more examples :P
+Hunter Schmolze thanks I'll go learn from all of whom you have told me about, I'm just starting playing guitar so.. wish me luck :)
The band is super fuckin tight too
It's a rare player who can be that lyrical, raw, 'out of control' sounding, and still be making it feel good on the spot. Love everything about it.
oh, and the band is fucking awesome
Every day every might I can hear the train going down the tracks and sometimes it is almost quite for a minute and I can hear the highway , I think of another place I lived and there was lumber mill the saw blade all day all night and the trains .
This is all that combined and the tracks or headed off in to outer space , I don't belong in this town anymore more than the last .
I love the way they play how I feels .
Facts!
One evening when Gary Clark Jr was a teen he was with a girl and they were, of course, listening to some classic blues as they were sitting on the couch. Things started to heat up with some kissing and touching. The girl was getting into things as the guitar player started in on his solo. Her breathing was faster and she was squirming as Gary moved to second base. The guitar cried out as the girl started to make noises of her own. Gary rounded third and was about to slide into home base when.... The guitar solo ended and the mood was broken. The girl got self conscious and made an excuse to head home... the solo was too short. Gary swore in his heart that if he ever made it big he would NEVER let that happen to anyone listening to his music. And I want to say: Thank you Gary, thank you for giving us these long ass sweet love making solos that don't leave us blue balled.
Lmao Yes
I saw that 2
wtf?
LOL.... gold!
Classic!!!!
Listened to his album "Blak and Blu" on repeat while traveling around Italy a couple of years ago
It is pity that fashion dictates that this performance which would have led to international mega-stardom 45 years ago today does not.
International mega stardom is over rated
The whole band is killing it and the emotion is pouring through, but to keep it real, today they have had influences and the people well before them where the pioneers. That's why those people received the acclaim.
I'm going to wash out my own comment a little by shifting focus and noting that these days there are so many distractions it's easy for amazing talent to go unnoticed. I agree with you that its a shame.
So good to hear an artist who can play a guitar solo well, and he is not playing metal music
What? You must have very limited knowledge of music.
Quit being arrogant, i was referring to a lot of his contemporaries such as the black keys. Now i have followed the black keys for many years even seen them live a few times but dan auerbach cannot play a solo live without screwing it up even if his life depended on it
Andrew Gould Again...very limited knowledge. There are a lot of contemporary bands with guitarists that play great solos. Also, I have seen the Black Keys multiple times, and I've watched many live videos of them, and I don't think I've ever seen Dan mess up a solo. How is he screwing it up?
Andrew Gould Another thing, even if Dan or any other guitarrist hits a bad note, that doesn't "screw up" the solo, at all. And I hope you're not one of those noobs who thinks that because he plays the solo differently live than what is on the album, then he's ruining it. Solos are not meant to be scripted, they're meant to be free-flow and spawn from the moment. I really think you need to be more open-minded towards music and what music is.
Your full of shit
From like 7:30-10, GCJr. was in another fucking galaxy! I don't even have words for playing like that. It's inspired; it's pure energy; it's otherwordldly. Everyone who saw that happen, man.. be grateful. Not everyone gets to see someone just take that step, it's like Peter stepping out of the boat... for a brief moment, God calls, and something in us answers. I believe that music can be a way we experience the same thing. That was pure soul being poured out right there. Respect.
Don’t have to be fast to play amazing music just have to have passion for what you do !!!
To all the people who said there's better blues out there: I got what I love out of this performance. To me, its my favorite dish on the menu right now. That's what its all about…the feeling. +Django Reinhardt
GCJR is the man! Love his back up guitarist too - bad ass strat he has and good backing with his guitar chords
bottom line he is very good... PERIOD NO BAD WORDS NEEDED DON'T HATE.... DAMN
9:53 "la la la la la la" oh my God ! He makes that guitar sing.
Wow, what a stellar and riveting performance...Gary’s guitar prowess literally brought me to tears...and his beautifully soulful voice is powerfully majestic...thank you Gary Clark Jr. for sharing this video...
This goes hard! Such a simple rhythm guitar progression, but that is all he needs... the vocals take it from there! Great blues musician... so much of that old school influence with a modern songwriting twist. His vibrato is to die for...
Respect for Gary Clark jr and the jam van. Saw this dude for first time at the x-games austin and the talent is undeniable
Django .... Its about soul man , soul ! When all is said and done , If ya aint got soul , technical ability is worthless . x
When I was a boy, I hated the riffs between the vocals. Now I can't get enough. Holy shit, I can't get enough of this
If you don’t think this is incredible the defect is you. This is lightning in a bottle on film, we live in paradise.
Paradise ?? Yeh ? pandemic , floods, fires,
...wars , starvation, homeless people,
...
..
.
What an awesome video, the sound, the production are second to none. Gary Clark is a master, you really caught it all on this video. I salute you. #Respect
.? guitar is WAY too loud !
I can't believe that guitar stays in tune after he bends the strings like halfway across the fretboard. He gets awesome tone with that SG too.
Everyone claiming that they can do better while the best they can get is a gig in their local pub

The best control of the wahh pedal Ive seen since hendrix. Not tryn to compare. Love this dude!
Have somebody noticed the perfect work of the other guitarist?... Specially after the 7:30
He's got an awesome voice and a unique guitar sound--just enjoy folks.
This is like good mescaline...comes on slow
This is the coolest thing I've seen since Samuel L Jackson played Jules Winnfield ;)
That second guitarist knows how as well as GC... he’s got mojo as well... wanna see these guys
