    The reason I love this guy’s music so much isn’t because of how technical (which it is, it’s just not fast, it’s a deeper level) yet because he puts his soul into every song. When the music tempo leads to a solo you can literally see the beast within start to want out and Gary almost goes into a trance like state where all of his inner emotions are being payed out from his guitar. That’s the spiritual part of music. I feel that and if you’re not feeling the music then what’s the point. This guys seriously one of if no the best guitarist of this generation

    • @stephenhanlin2388
      @stephenhanlin2388 2 года назад +2

      Nothing technical about his playing. He’s a scale player. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good but not great. His vocal delivery is his greatest asset. Relies on effects way too much & dorks out a lot on the same note for too long when he takes a solo

    • @dylanjohnson577
      @dylanjohnson577 2 года назад +2

      @@stephenhanlin2388 you don’t understand his style. While metal-ish players focus on technical skills, this guys focusing on the feel the notes give. While yeah you’re right about his voice being a huge asset, his guitar is also adding onto that. Which in turn, is the basis of what the blues is. It’s all about the feel.

      You are correct. Blues isn't marketable. Nobody is pushing that shit. Nobody can sell rock and roll these days. As much as it may be a bullshit argument, I'm holding on to Neil's faith and fortitude. Nothing can kill rock and roll. If one guy hears a tune and gets turned on, thats rock and roll.

      Possibly, what he meant was that the tradition of blues music will be played by people such as, but not limited too, GC jr. I don't think Clapton means that HE is the future of blues music but maybe one person who will act in its behalf. PS. I hate Gary Clarks music and in no way or form do I think its representative of what modern blues sounds like

    Good Lord this was a strait up murder scene on the guitar. A gosh darn triple homicide. He made that thing walk like, like a camel. I remember listening to this for the first time in like 2015 or something I come back here many times throughout the year, just to hear this beautiful masterpiece every time I hear it it makes me want to play the guitar and learn how to play. I don't play an instrument anymore but when I was in school I played the clarinet and the flute and I was definitely musically inclined I was able to change the music and put my own twist on things. I would usually be in my head so far ahead of the song that I could just breathe my soul into it. So I really see how this song makes you feel is because he put that feeling into his guitar in his performance. It's an unexplainable feeling when you're able to speak a language that has no words and express yourself not just through the body but with the body and the soul and the spirit simultaneously. The same feeling I get when I'm surfing or skimboarding or longboarding and I'm cutting and carving and just expressing my whole essence through my movements and through My soul and Spirit. Human beings are a mysterious and amazing part of God's creation.

    One evening when Gary Clark Jr was a teen he was with a girl and they were, of course, listening to some classic blues as they were sitting on the couch. Things started to heat up with some kissing and touching. The girl was getting into things as the guitar player started in on his solo. Her breathing was faster and she was squirming as Gary moved to second base. The guitar cried out as the girl started to make noises of her own. Gary rounded third and was about to slide into home base when.... The guitar solo ended and the mood was broken. The girl got self conscious and made an excuse to head home... the solo was too short. Gary swore in his heart that if he ever made it big he would NEVER let that happen to anyone listening to his music. And I want to say: Thank you Gary, thank you for giving us these long ass sweet love making solos that don't leave us blue balled.

      Quit being arrogant, i was referring to a lot of his contemporaries such as the black keys. Now i have followed the black keys for many years even seen them live a few times but dan auerbach cannot play a solo live without screwing it up even if his life depended on it

    • @apolloptx
      @apolloptx 10 лет назад +2

      Andrew Gould Again...very limited knowledge. There are a lot of contemporary bands with guitarists that play great solos. Also, I have seen the Black Keys multiple times, and I've watched many live videos of them, and I don't think I've ever seen Dan mess up a solo. How is he screwing it up?

    • @apolloptx
      @apolloptx 10 лет назад +2

      Andrew Gould Another thing, even if Dan or any other guitarrist hits a bad note, that doesn't "screw up" the solo, at all. And I hope you're not one of those noobs who thinks that because he plays the solo differently live than what is on the album, then he's ruining it. Solos are not meant to be scripted, they're meant to be free-flow and spawn from the moment. I really think you need to be more open-minded towards music and what music is.

      He opened for the Stones? That's big time, and what a great warm up act for them to have. I bet part of his job was to get the crowd fired up, but not upstage the old boys either. :)

      Tom Howland thank god. There are enough SRVaughabees out here already and SRV just took from Albert and Otis and added crazy clothes on a white boy and a tube screamer.

    The beauty of Gary's playing is the selective riffs and the simplicity/synchronicity with the rest of the instruments... If you are trying to compare this song with some crazy shredding action, you're missing the point. I'm a fan for life.

    Wow.558 people gave this a thumbs down. I really really wish someday you understand why this is a great performance. I apologize if any of you are deaf or mentally challenged. Hey, music is just variations in air pressure, right? Oh, you listened to this on your phone? Yeah, that is the best way to listen to a live performance right everyone else?!! Damn I'm stupid!!

  • @teddytusen
    @teddytusen 9 лет назад +137

    Gary didn`t ask for a comparison to Hendrix or SRV....ore Joe B for that matter.... How about you judge him by his own talent...? Giving thumbs down because of those comparisons is just stupid. He is a great artist. Judge him by that. I love Joe B, and I love Gary C. No need to compare.

      Yep Hendrix was not perfect either, i dont think any musician is perfect infact any errors are a part of the soul, Hendrix also wanted to be a better vocalist, this man has it.

      He has a gift let's face it! Its all in the bending of notes that not many guitarist's are able to achieve that is hitting the correct pitch, note on the bend''
      His style is unorthodox yet unique as in keeping it simple, keeping it raw as one would expect it! But originality has come out tops, you try writing performing singing playing blues and being noticed amongst a billion blues bands around the States, dang even Zimbabwe have a blues band yet GCjr has let his style float him to the surface! Practice

    Blues is about the "feel" if you're listening to Gary Clark Jr. or any other artist for that matter and constantly critiquing their skills than you are in the wrong mindset to listen to music. Get lost in the feeling not the judgmental thoughts.

    From like 7:30-10, GCJr. was in another fucking galaxy! I don't even have words for playing like that. It's inspired; it's pure energy; it's otherwordldly. Everyone who saw that happen, man.. be grateful. Not everyone gets to see someone just take that step, it's like Peter stepping out of the boat... for a brief moment, God calls, and something in us answers. I believe that music can be a way we experience the same thing. That was pure soul being poured out right there. Respect.

    I listen to just about everything, except today’s country music. Like a previous post said, blues don’t require technical playing but the trick is transmitting feeling and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the blues and my man right here got it. The band ties it together also, they are one and it shows. 💯
