Why use Vanilla pudding instead of banana pudding? I've asked all my Southern relatives that. Just asking your opinion. And is it ok to use the instant pudding or the cook n serve?
@@SW-Lopez1980 I only use the instant pudding because the cook and serve won’t be as quick. You can certainly use the cook and serve but it won’t be these directions. You would have to cook the pudding first. And the reason why everyone I know uses vanilla pudding for this is because it just has a better flavor that blends well with the banana. Using banana pudding with bananas it’s just overwhelming. It’s almost like you can’t really taste the bananas on their own because the pudding flavor overwhelms the actual fruit.
Thank you for reminding me how to make it. There is so many videos on RUclips and they make it so complicated they’re using condensed milk and they’re using vanilla extract and using sour cream cream. It doesn’t have to be so difficult banana pudding was never meant to be difficult
I hope y'all enjoyed this! Sorry for being slow to respond, but I've been largely away from RUclips and out in the garden or taking care of other projects lately. 😄
Banana pudding is just so good! 🍌 I know it would be even better with real, made from scratch whipped cream. I think I’ll have to make some like that one day... 🤔

I'm going to try this when the grandkids come over this weekend. I bet they'll help me make it. It looks so good! Could you tell me what size baking pan you used? Thank you!
Assuming you used instant pudding, it should be thickened up within just a few minutes. It won’t be as thick as it’s going to get if you refrigerate it for a while, but it will be thick enough that you can tell it’s a setting correctly.
Growing up THIS was my fave thing my momma made for family events ... thaaaaank youuuuuuuj for sharing this!! I have been meaning to ask her what she did. Yasss. (also, Ezra alerted me you had a new video cuz she is subscribed to you too! 😹♥️)
Thank you for saving the day! I’m so excited to have run into your channel, and especially. this recipe for banana pudding. I used to make something like this way back in the olden days. Ha ha, but I forgot how I did it, and when I looked up recipes, they all were way too complicated! Just know that a very happy family will be enjoying this exact banana pudding on Thanksgiving!
I'm so glad I found this. All the other ones are too involved, and too many ingredients. You do it like my the ladies at my church did it when I was young. Thanks for sharing 💁
I searched for banana pudding after seeing a skit about "the South." This is so not what I was expecting! Here (Australia) a pudding is a boiled/steamed type of cake. Sometimes self-saucing. Banana pudding is more like a banana trifle. It's tempting to make, but I've never seen Nilla wafers, that custard-jelly (that you called pudding), or Cool Whip (is that just wiped cream?). LOL
Cool Whip is a very cheap imitation of proper whipped cream, but it holds up really well long after you've used it to top a dessert. The "custard-jelly" you refer to, our Jello, is an instant version of this type of thing (www.mybakingaddiction.com/homemade-vanilla-pudding/) ... I can see why you'd call this a trifle. While trifles aren't typical desserts here in the southern USA (yes, some people make them and eat them, but it's not a common thing), I do know what they are and this does seem similar. Regardless of whether you make it or not thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Haha I reckon that's true. I mean, we say supper, but I know folks out there say "dinner" when they mean the evening meal. Dinner is an afternoon meal - often after church - enjoyed at the dining room table with family. 😄

Great question, Noelia! I usually let it set for at least a couple of hours but sometimes we get into it faster if there isn’t that much time between when I make it and when we need to serve it for dessert.
It’s not complicated. Just follow the directions in the show notes. If you have a large box of pudding mix, you would just use one but if you have the smaller boxes of pudding, which is the normal size then you would use two.

In this case, we use less milk than the box actually calls for. The box calls for 3 cups per box but we only use 2 cups per box for this. And lastly, it does take a little bit of time for the pudding to set up which is why you should put it in the refrigerator for a while.
@@OldTimeKnowledge thank you for the reply. I have used 240ml of milk for each pack of instant pudding. Do you think this is where I went wrong? I refrigerated for more than 12 hrs but it is still runny. I have made this for the first time, sorry for bothering you with too many questions.

Plenty of vanilla wafers? Two small boxes of instant pudding? Sliced bananas and cool whip? Honestly, the pudding should already start firming up before you even put it in the refrigerator. It should definitely be thick so if it was already runny, then you might’ve put in too much milk for the amount of pudding you used. I hate that it didn’t work out for you!
