    Good video Doc. Hv been earring Chia Seeds for 11-12 yrs. I soak abt 1 1/2 Tbls. in approx 3-4 oz water. Place in jar with tight lid, shake well. Leave on counter and give a few hard shakes every thirty mins. The seeds are gelatinous and will clump if not shaken.(only have to shake 2 hrs)
    Some times I don’t use enough seed and it’s watery….add few more seeds! There is no right or wrong. ….store in fridge. I use a heaping soup spoon gelled chias in my oatmeal scrambled eggs, soups, salads and more. You don’t know they’re there! There is no crunch when gelled.
    However! They are a huge PITA if some spill on dish cloth or sponge, particularly when wet!
    You don’t need recipe! Enjoy! 89 in three mos. Only med is for thyroid. Don’t know how to
    get off that med. Eating, basically, plant based last 7-8 yrs. Liver twice week and 10-12 eggs wk.

    The omega content of every plant, including chia seeds are of the ALA form. Humans can barely use this form, so yes, it might contain more omega 3 than Salmon, but salmon contain DHA/EPA as it has actively converted it from algae from ALA to DHA/EPA, which is the form humans use. This is important as the body uses many rescourses to convert ALA to DHA/EPA.

    • @zoltannagy2889
      @zoltannagy2889 5 лет назад +10

      Very true. ALA is not biologically active so it needs to be converted to EPA or DHA in order to become active in the body BUT this conversion process is very inefficient. Only 1-10% is converted to EPA and 1-5% converted to DHA. The conversions are also depending on the level of other nutrients in the body meaning that inefficient level of nutrients reduce conversion.
      Great video anyway. My utmost respect goes to Dr. Eric Berg.

    I make chia pudding and eat it nearly every morning to replace my "pre-keto" steel cut oats. I use a 4:1 ratio almond milk : chia seeds, sometimes add some collagen, flax meal (and a little extra milk), and flavor it with cocoa powder, chai seasonings (incl powdered chai tea) or just cinnamon and vanilla ... plus stevia or monk fruit sweetener to taste (more needed w/ cocoa option). I have a small serving every day to go along with my almond meal pancakes or omelette. Now that I know this, I'm definitely keeping this habit up! Thanks, Dr. Berg!

    while traveling in Mexico I bought some lemonade. I noticed they had normal lemonade and one with all these seeds, there were chia seeds. I started doing this at home but I don't add the sugar, just water, fresh lime juice and chia seeds and I'll let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before I drink it. when the seeds are in your body they will absorb a lot of water, so you have to make sure you're hydrated. very important because otherwise your digestion will suffer.
    a little trick that's gross but I'm so glad I found out, I left a few seeds out on the counter because I was having problems with mice, and they all ate the seeds and died. They expand in their stomachs. Guess mice can't digest chia seeds. I'm sure glad we can LOL

      If you eat chia already expanded, they will not absorb any more water in your body. Besides, all the water they have will be slowly released during digestion providing an sustained hydration. However, the correct way to make "chia fresca" which is lemonade with chia, is to put the seed in the water first and let it absorb water for 10-15 minutes and then add the lemon juice, otherwise the seed will not absorb water due to the acid of the lemon. The acidity avoids chia to absorb water.

    Dr. Berg thank you for all you do!!! Quick question. Should there be a concern for overeating chia seeds? I currently have chia pudding every day w 78g chia, 10g flaxmeal and 10g hemp seeds. It's very satisfying and I feel like I'm cheating every day :))

    Thomas Delaure had a similar chia pudding recipe but he warmed the milk first and added some butter or other fat. I tried his recipe & I think the temp/fats help thicken the mix. We love chia pudding; such a great sub for old fashioned tapioca pudding which has way too much starchy carbs! 👍

    Okay, okay, okay. I'm more than convinced that chia seeds are an elixir. Now, what's the optimal amount and how should we consume them, beside chia pudding? I suppose it's a spoonful a day in total, sprinkled on salads or other veg dishes.

    Chia is really good in a smoothie. Smashing up the tough seed walls helps release the nutrients. It's also a good substitute texture-wise for bananas or eggs.

    I don't like the grittiness of traditional chia pudding recipes. I put 2 Tablespoons of chia seed in my small coffee grinder and grind them. Then I gradually whisk them into 10 ounces of almond milk, add 1/2 TSP vanilla, smash in a banana 🍌, then add sweetener of choice. When the seed is ground beforehand, it actually plumps and thickens into pudding consistency right away. So no chilling in fridge, you can just eat it !

    • @Caroline_T
      @Caroline_T 7 лет назад +15

      Aaron I think it depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish. Remember , almonds are actually a seed and not a nut. And cashews come from the cashew fruit. They are attached to the fruit like a little stem. So cashews aren't nuts either. Since nuts can be estrogenic, I'm glad about this! Both are equally healthy . I do love cashews though! So creamy!

    The only adverse effect is the tremendous high amounts of Oxalates. People that are sensitive to it can develop kidney stones. That's a fact. If use occasionally shouldn't be a problem. There's always pluses and minuses.Pros and cons in what you consume regularly. True, it contains high in Omega-3's. The high content of Oxalates can cause problems to some food sensitive people.

    Love, Love Chia. Desert with just about any mashed up fresh juicy fruit or a combo of fruits. That's how simple healthy deserts can be and so filling. It just needs to sit at lease 15 minutes to thicken. So worth the benefits. Or make it at night, put in fridge and have it ready for morning.
