I live less than a half mile from this courses property edge, and most of my neighbors don’t even know it’s there. There are no clear views of the course from any road, no signs that its there, and certainly no grand entrance. Its a stealth course in the middle of a crowded suburb. I ask around and all I hear is it’s really old, and membership is invite only. AKA, not me.
I would be grateful if you can pass this enquiry on to someone who might know - [ I am having difficulty in making any contact ] I know all about the golfing Foulis brothers ( I am Scottish ), but they had two Bett cousins who also headed to Bellerive/Normandy Both also originally from St Andrews, they had emigrated to Canada, and in 1925 crossed to the US with the intention of joining their cousins. The family connection is that the Foulis and Bett mothers were sisters. One was Robert Simpson Foulis Bett, born 1899 in St Andrews, ( and you will recognise the middle names ). Robert had an eventful life, flying with the British RAF in WW1, and then joined the US army air corps in WW2 My query is that through most of his life this Robert Bett was a motor mechanic, but on his death certificate on 23 Feb 1967 in St Louis, Missouri he was described as a 'retired golf prof'. Could this be true ? Or was he perhaps employed as a mechanic at the golf course ? His brother was Frederick Bett, who in the 1940 census was described as a caddy master. I am inclined to believe this. Peter Aikman
