Trivia: The Seven Samurai is one of the few Samurai movies to literally feature a realistic samurai duel in the vein of not going for flashy repeated hits, but just one simple strike.
Kurosawa would be proud. And another thing, I think the mini pauses in between the strikes probably allows the Samurai to reflect and think about how to handle the situation before going on for the next blow.
@@keithmoon3190 Yea cus one mistake and you’re dead. Sword fighting is just as much a psychological fight than it is a physical one or one of skill. One wrong move and you’re mince meat in a lot of cases.
The one strike idea was not as common as people think. Going for one big attack often ended with mutual kills. Actual samurai fencing usually began with a wrist or arm cut going right into a death cut. Most fights were under a few seconds long and not very flashy or entertaining.
Now this is a realistic scenario where both parties is tensed up with a fixed posture cause we all know it doesn't end like the ones in movies where you can survive 5-10 hit's from a fine sword, Pretty much game over after you get hit 💀 Thank you for this representation sir.

The problem with this is that they allowed him to get the position. It effectively is 1 on 1. The last guy waited till his buddy got killed before attacking.

I love they way of the katana so much live by the sword die by the sword I would be honored to be a student of your dojo learning everything there is to know about a katana tachi nodachi odachi if it is a sword I want to learn it but katanas is a passion
I'd believe he can handle multiple enemies with a staff but with a katana, nah unlikely. You only need to get nicked with the tip of the blade and now you're likely to die from blood loss or subsequent infection. The staff simply outranges the katana and allows you to get back into a defensive posture right away. With a katana, he'd only survive if he were kiting them back causing his attackers to go at him in a line. Even then it's a dangerous proposition seeing as samurai also had throwing knives.
I want to do kenjutsu, but there's only one in the other city.. and I have to take 2 buses to go there, not counting the price of the course, I really want to do it, but I don't have any advice, could someone help me?

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a Samurai type fight since back in the wars they rarely ever used them unless it was very extreme and their last chance, and even in peaceful times of Japan when their were samurai just pulling out your blade could get you sentenced to death so many samurai masters taught that in peaceful times “never draw your katana unless your prepared to die”.
