Great tips for starting in the hobby! I always tell people to go for the models that personably connect to them, like maybe they flew on the aircraft or saw it at the airport. This way it connects the person to that aircraft.

1.) I've had no problems buying planes on ebay
2.) You can buy planes that are sold out everywhere else on ebay
3.) Planes are not cheaper on ebay. They are more expensive, cause people sell planes that haven't been available for years.

Cheap doesn’t always mean bad. Also some models are new, but cheaper because they are on sale

Dude you can use what ever model airplanes you want for your model airport......at the end of day it's the love of aviation that counts !! and also Geminijets is one of the BEST model companies there is !!

You can use any model i guess it's whatever makes you happy... but from experience i know that at some point most people want a realistic airport and i made a video ranking every 1/400 scale company and gemini got position 2

I came late, i add my additional point: Check the actual plane in real life, some modellers produce plane with fictional registration that is not exist in real life. Also, dont collect livery with temporary registration and marking.

With the small plastic layer I know they were fresh from the factory, but I noticed that it is oily too. And I have experienced with older model of Gemini 737-800 stored using this small plastic layer but it causing the left main wing had a bubble, few weeks earlier when I received the model it was fine. That's why I'm in doubt what should be the best material to become the medium between the model and the plastic cradle. Maybe a thin layer of tissue paper might work to prevent the direct contact between airplane model body with the cradle?

  • @PatriotCody

I always check which airplanes are in service with the different airlines and if they are planned to be retired I avoid those as well.

I wanna collect all 1:400s....and segregate them in the shelves or get another display cabinet.... One is for active airliners and other for retired aircrafts/airline companies that are not in the business anymore.... Aside from modern model airport....old models have values also historically....like many airlines that started since the 1950s to the present... Also models that I have experienced flying or seen personally in real life.....if only I can purchase all haha 😂😂...I like looking at the liveries old and present.

  • @nzrn2345

Also .... buying second hand - beware many sellers hide behind the statement “box has some shelfwear “
This is an out clause used by sellers to hide the many sins of poor looking after of boxes where poor care is demonstrated by crush damage , tearing, separation of the layers of the box structure , literal abuse of the many times of opening and closing of a box has damaged the lip of a box.
My advice- if the word “shelfwear” is used - ask the seller to send detailed photos of the box from all angles. Most honest and decent sellers will do this for you. If they do not ... STAY AWAY from purchasing from them.
Where possible always buy brand new - 95% of the time ... both box and model will be in mint condition.
For me .... preservation of the models and especially the boxes is EVERYTHING.
Not just for potential selling later in life but for my own posterity and long term enjoyment of the hobby.
    Here’s what l do ....
I seal my models ! Yes , seal them.
With a heat gun , shrink wrap bags and a heat sealer , my models inside their boxes are heat sealed and this eliminates any chance of shelfwear because there will never ever be shelfwear.
Each model is as pristine as the day it was purchased.
And before you say - “what is the point - how will you ever get to enjoy your models””? I enjoy my models all the time. I simply remove the sealed plastic covering - play with the model and reseal the model/box in a new shrink wrap bag when l am done ... as good as new.
I get shrink wrap bags from Amazon - you can get 100 bags for under $10 that’s 10 cents per bag... it’s worth it to me.

Regarding your #1 tip, I would not call it quality over quantity, but relevance over quantity. What's relevant is subjective, while quality is more objective. Some people may be looking to build a classic airport with classic aircraft, so models that may not work for your airport may work for others.

    • @swiss4009
      @swiss4009  3 года назад

Absolutely agree with you! Not every great model is made for every collector. But it's just important to make sure the model you buy is well produced and as accurate to the real aircraft as possible
