  • Weigh only 18 KG. Bonus clips at the end. I build this SUP without any plan. Just based on lots of dreaming and imagination. You will see how I build the SUP using trial and error. Be amazed to see how the SUP takes shape. See how well it goes on the water at the end. This teaser video shows the build of a 13.8 plywood standup paddleboard using 4 sheets of $18 cheap 4mm plywood. No stitch and glue. Just a handful of 1/2-inch nails and wood glue.
    Please subscribe to watch a series of episodes of the build with step-by-step instructions together with failures and how to make good. I’d bet a whole bunch would start building this easy-to-build SUP. Yes, you can make this too. If I can, you can too. Start dreaming and imagining until it comes true.
    Please leave a comment if you are interested to see the step-by-step videos building this SUP.
    I am not a builder. I just like to make things. I could not believe it myself as the SUP takes shape. I decided to build it this way because I really like to have the edges rounded and yes, it works. I am extremely happy with the end results. I decided to use cheap ply as I was not sure that this project will be successful. I told my wife if it breaks halfway during building, then I can just forget about it. Thus using cheap non-marine ply.
    I did not use any powered tools to build this SUP or you don't need one to actually. All you need is a hammer, handsaw, wood glue, wood rasp and lots of sandpapers. No clamps are needed.
    18 KG is a little heavier than normal SUP but it is manageable. The weight helps improve stability and durability. perfect for me. It took quite a while to build this SUP. I work on it after work and more hours during the weekend. I had to wait for summer to apply epoxy resin and fibreglass.
    All the materials were from bunnings home depot. I just roughly follow the shape of a stitch & glue touring open canoe by JEM-Craft. I have asked my son to draw the plan for this SUP. I will share how you can get the plan in the building episode.

    I have seen some boards with similar designs to yours and others more "cool", I prefer this one, a simple but effective design, perfect for newbies like me.
    Great job! Thank you

      Thank you 🙏. I have been dreaming of making one for a very long time. Yes, other designs seem complicated and I don’t have the tools to cut the plywood framing for example. Here I just use a timber. I actually weighed both timber and plywood. The timber a lot lighter. This is the only way I can imagine to build one and I did it 😊 Thanks, again .

      @@corneliusoutdoors Hi, friend. A couple of questions, what epoxy did you use and how much was needed?
      Thank you so much

      I got the 5L epoxy + 1L hardener. I used less than half. The rest I use for the small canoe I built. Still some leftover.

      @@corneliusoutdoors Thanks man. I'm gathering information to build one and I'm trying to solve my doubts before starting it, yours seems simple and effective, ideal for a novice like me. I just need to find a place big enough to do it. Thank you very much for your answer.

    One of DIY prject I am very proud of. I imagine it and start building it. Lots of trial and error. I had so so much fun building this paddle board. I am extremely proud and happy with the round edges. I have watch many SUP videos using plywood, Getting the round edges is almost impossible. Very happy. Indeed!🥰

    Well done! I’ve made 10 to 12 hollow wooden surfboards and and the build process is fun. Sometimes I like to use a clear texture paint called monster paint to give my feet something to grab onto. I’m not sure if they still sell that product but it sure was helpful for me.

    • @corneliusoutdoors
      @corneliusoutdoors  25 дней назад +1

      Thanks 🙏. 😱 12? Amazing. Yes, it was fun. Mine is quite slippery. I didn’t want to add a mat on it because it would add weight too. I’ll check the monster paint out. Thanks, mate! 🙏🙏🙏. I built mine with front tilts upwards. I installed the two long fins in parallel but they don’t help in straightening the moving forward. I m avoiding deep fin as I like paddling shallow water. Any advice would help. I m planning to remove the old fins and replace them. I really need some advice 🙏🙏🙏

Let me see what I can do. Thanks 🙏 for the encouragement. I indeed stopped uploading videos. Thanks for your support 🙏

    • @corneliusoutdoors
      @corneliusoutdoors  Год назад +4

      Thank you so much. I have some left over cloth and epoxy. I don’t think the total cost touch $300. Just over $250, maybe 🤔. Every single time I go paddling there are always people come over to ask me, take photos and so on. Consider building one. If more people interested, I may get someone to draw this plan. No special tools like building other SUP. You only need a hand saw and hammer. The rest will be sanding work. 👍🏽

      Did not fibreglass and applied paint? A lot cheaper. I use 2 plywood at $18 each. The rest are small nails and tiny beams. But you may need proper glue. Fibreglass helps to hold the boat together

    How thick is the plywood you usr

    • @corneliusoutdoors
      @corneliusoutdoors  3 месяца назад +1

      For this one I use 4mm. You could also use 3mm. I was worried my weight. 3mm is okay double layer fibreglass where you stand would be strong enough.
