I've worked with wood and fiberglass for many many years, and yet I still learned some things from this video! What a labor of love that board has become - absolutely wonderful!
That was a joy to watch. I have built 3 canoes and a kayak, and I was mesmerized by the video. Thanks for posting. No surfing here, but definitely makes me want to try to build one myself one day. Thanks for helping me dream.
That is so amazing! I’m a carpenter and I shape boards but I can’t imagine doing something like that. It’s been a dream of mine to shape a wooden surfboard but finding the time is difficult. I’m so impressed with your talent and skill! Keep up the great work!🤙🙏🏄♂️
One of the most beautiful boards I've ever seen. I would love to make one of these, but I can't imagine how many hours you've got into this. I think I'd be too afraid to ding or scratch it up to actually use it in a lineup. Huge respect!
You prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Tatum Nehemiah I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have about 21 years of experience in woodworking and I have recently got an interest in Surfing. After watching this video I'm confident that I can build my own Surfboard with my skills. Also with my skills in woodworking I can make the more more my own styles and design.
Being an Old-Timey wood worker, when I saw you start chambering the board and you splitting the glued joints apart - I almost had a stroke. Then I saw how you make those aircraft wing-like chambers and then all was well with the world again. Wow! what a beautiful craft- Great job Andrew!
Andrew, I love this video. I'm not much of a surfer myself, but I intend to use the chambered method to make a boogie (body) board for myself and daughter. Although I've seen plenty of video doing it from foam and plywood, I think I would enjoy the chambering process quite a bit. I plan t o use redwood for the body and cedar as the striped accents. Thanks, I'll be referring to this video once I get started.
very nice board about 15 years ago I made a wooden Wakeboard in a fairly similar way although I put a solid Poplar rib down the center to stiffen the boards flex as much as possible it worked ! I grew up in Florida and I’ve always wanted to build my own surfboard , now I’m old and a retired Woodworker I’m thinking of doing a Paddleboard / Longboard Surfboard as the boards I’ve preferred are what you young guys consider Longboards like my 6 foot 2 incnch Sunshine single fin
Me, first 1/3 of the video: “wood boards are SCREWED together?!?” A moment later:”ohhhhhh”. Brilliant stuff man, never would have figured that’s how it’s done.
he’s very good at what he does & builds many different types (material & shape-wise) of boards. I’m pretty positive that he’s showed me what it takes to build one of my own.
What a beautiful and brilliant build! Thanks for sharing this amazing piece of functional art. PS: In addition to your clearly being a top notch woodworker, I LOVED how you kept your shop clean as you worked. Everything about this video; from the board itself to the video production ( loved the soundtrack!) to your highly skilled and deliberate approach was PRO. I really enjoyed watching this.
Hi Andrew, your top notch how-to videos have helped me tremendously in glasing my surfboard! I had built it in a workshop, the glasing I then wanted to do myself. You have a super understandable instructions, completely relaxed brought across. I am more than satisfied with the result. Thank you very much!
Lovely work If you want to split a glue joint later, use a piece of paper between the layers, most of the glues these days are stronger than wood and the wood could split
My only experience with woodworking was making my own floating bed. And it looks pretty rough. This video has me thinking I can do something like this. I doubt it will look near as good but I think I’ll give it a go.
Wow.. now thats craftsmanship. I always scratched my head at how much skill goes into making a board like that. And not for nothing, but first thing you notice is how light it is.... well, relatively speaking. You are just not expecting something made of wood to be as light.
Bravo! Well done. Attention to detail and I learned so much and I’ve made about 10 hollow wooden surfboards! Would live to see the board in better surf when you get the footage. Excellent tutorial thanks!!!!
I've watched the most wooden surfboard builds on RUclips, and this is definitely the best video. Simple, yet meticulous. How long did this take from start to finish?
@@MyF1Scuderia My guess on the light colored wood was a cedar. Bet it weighs more like 20 lbs all up. He didn't seal/waterproof the inside yet added a "vent plug". Do all the chambers connect and possibly drain to that spot? Hmmm...Nice job though. Aloha y'all.

Andrew! Thank you so much for another series of great videos !!! When I first time wanted to make a surfboard I started looking for information on the Internet and came across your first project with a blue board. It was the best video ever, comprehensive information. everything is easy, simple and accessible, even for a beginner. very interesting and all this time I keep track of your surfboard projects. Thanks to you I was able to try shape surfboards too. Thank you for helping to avoid mistakes and explaining a lot of details and specific points. have a good surf.

I have never seen a wooden surfboard assembled and at 1st when you screwed the 2 halves, but then only glued them together with no hardware I thought this guy doesn't know what hes doing lol. Then you took it apart and cored it and then I realized "Aha! I get it now!" Very nice, and sustainable SPF wood too!
Yeah me too - I was like "wtf this isn't chambered it's solid and heavy as" then all was revealed. Lots of work but did it well. Probably could have gone a little more on the coring to reduce weight, and definitely less cloth eg 4oz.
Great work! Question: how heavy is this board? I've only ever made a few surfboards (4, all out of fibreglass and foam) and so I'm in awe of your workmanship here!
good luck…you’ll have to guess. as much as I enjoy his videos & how-to-DiYs, I’ve never seen a response. he’s great with his projects, but poor with response. I looked this up a few years ago & saw from a few sources online, that if you copy the exact shape & length of a Foam & Fiberglass board, then find the weight of them & multiply them by 1.3, so they’re basically around 40% heavier. I imagine you can lower that by removing more stock, creating more void volume, but I can’t say from experience.
great stuff! I was wondering if you could do something about the 'design' of a surfboard. Flat bottoms, fast, slower... how does one create a template or design for those, and what does what on a surfborad ?
That was awesome! Thank you for the insight. For someone who has some understanding and experience with what you were doing it gave me a great joy to watch and when I make my first board I will share my experience with you. Thanks again.
