    One of the last steps in building my RatRig KillerBee is the enclosure. It keeps the mess and noise contained, while also protecting me from anything flying off. It also houses the electronics and adds some lighting to the CNC for better visibility. The design is based on the laser enclosure by Further Fabrication, you can check that out here: • Ep7: The External Fram...

    My dky cnc is has a work space of around 30" x 30". First thing I did is make an enclosure out of lexan. For protection and to reduce dust and noise in the shop

    Great job!
    Info on tools, speeds and feeds are always useful on this class of machine. Air-assist chip removal and vacuum extraction would be nice features.

    Great video, did you experience any significant sound damping?

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад

      I have not done enough testing, but it will make it a bit quieter for sure. Though for me, the dust collection/compressor will probably end up being the loudest thing anyhow.

    Is there a port in the enclosure for the vacuum ? And what hinges did you use ?

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  Год назад

      The vacuum will go underneath the table and the hinges are just generic ones from the hardware store.

    Do you have plans available for this enclosure?

    Great job on the video and project! - Looks like a really good enclosure with some nice design features! How are you finding the CNC? Any major issues so far?

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад +1

      It's a good kit and leaves lot's of flexibility to customize as much or as little as you want. I'll have to do more testing before I can say anything about the performance.

    Can you tell me which torque steppers you used?

  • @knight3131
    @knight3131 2 года назад

    Hello, Can you please tell me which extrusion package you got from rat rig and what options you selected. Also can you provide links to connector and other bits you bought from aliexpress to make this enclosure.

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад

      The extrusions are just their custom length 2020 ones. What lengths you need will depend on your machine and setup. I'll add the other links in the description.

    Do you find the enclosure to be rigid enough ?

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  Год назад

      Opening and closing the lid feels a bit flimsy (you need two hands to properly close it), but once it's closed it feels very solid.

    Nice video!
    Why choosing aluminium profile when you can build it dirt cheap with plywood?

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад +1

      Because it looks good and gives some more mounting options. But you could totally save some money by using wood only.

    • @Levisgil47
      @Levisgil47 2 года назад

      @@DarkArtGuitars I calculated that all the rails will cost me 150 euros. (Queenbee X1000 Y750). I really like the option of the aluminium profiles for the look and also to leave opening windows to be able to slide the work in case it's bigger than the table . But for sure I want to damp the noise the most as possible and in that case I'm really not sure if the aluminium structure is better than the plywood one.

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад +1

      @@Levisgil47 The aluminum is just the frame, it won't do anything for dampening the noise. If you use some decently thick panels it will dampen the noise quite a bit. The loudest part will be the window, unless you get thicker acrylic, which would also make it more expensive and heavier.

    where did you get all your stuff for the ENCLOSURE and how much did it cost? i would like to do the same with my setup mill!

    • @DarkArtGuitars
      @DarkArtGuitars  2 года назад

      The 2020 extrusion I got from RatRig, the wood panels form the hardware store, and the acrylic panels from a local plastic supplier. The connector and other bits are from Aliexpress. All in all around $400.
