Boy, you've found a giant rabbit hole to descend! Bloodsport (from the room below) is a stunning piano driven ballad, that really shows his emotional vocal chops!!
Yes, we definitely need an analysis of Blood Sport, specifically the From the Room Below live take!
Agreed! That performance is SO raw and painful.
🙏🏻
I’m glad someone said this!
came here to say just this. It rivals Corey Taylor’s Snuff acoustic performance as one of the greatest emotional vocal showings of all time.
Thanks so much for your patience everyone! I hope you enjoyed the video :)
thank you for not giving up on us and disappearing into the Ether! We know you live a busy life so, Welcome Back :)
Where have been? I hope everything is ok
Welcome back, Julia! We've missed you terribly. We're just no good at it. :D
This is why i love your channel, you go out of the confort zone and look or good music, good stuff
OMG welcome back. We missed you! ❤️
Sleep Token is incredible. If you want more of them I would suggest Atlantic and Hypnosis to listen to next!!
And the demon pig squealer (Will Ramos) covered Hypnosis too... it's a fun watch as well.
@@RenThraysk Will's cover is really great, I was actually really surprised by his clean singing ability. There is just something about Vessel's voice that is almost ethereal, and I feel like it would be super hard to replicate
@@nathanmellott2262 Yeah, just mentioned it because imagine some people will be curious as to what it'd sound like.
Or Blood Sport!
Or The offering and Higher
Insane band can't define their genre tbh they have a genre of their own, The offering is a perfect song to get it all from them
They don't do genres. When people ask me what genre they are, I tell them to listen to "Jaws," "Atlantic," "The Love You Want," "The Offering," and "Higher" and then come back and tell me what genre they think they are.
@@joejacklin3831 For that reason, I would probably say the lean into prog, simply because they are so diverse. However, calling them prog limits them into a certain aesthetic that I don't think represents what they are as a band
You're one of the best to every do it. Glad to have you back doing the damn thing. Especially happy to see Sleep Token. Definitely one of my favourite finds on the channel and you've now given me even more reason to love them.
Eyyyy, cool to see you here! Shouldve expected you'd show up on her ST vid. Hope you're well! Oh, and Worship.
As for their genre… You perfectly nailed it! They are undefinable. This song really let their drummer shine, you can see this clearly in II’s drum play through on their channel which I loved because he is amazing. The band is based around members that no one knows who they are (to let us focus solely on the music) and they worship the deity Sleep and their songs all revolve around this in same way. This band is a rabbit hole and they just get better and better the more you listen to them.
Sleep Token has been my obsession since their last album came out. You HAVE to check out The Love You Want for 1: the a capella vocal layering, 2: the cinematography and 3: the choreography. It's stuuuuuunnning
The Love You Want also has some really sick instrumental stuff in it. One of my favourites!
Fall for me
Yes I love The Love You Want 😍🔥
I recommend "High Water", from the same band ^^ I discovered them with that song first, and it was like travelling to another PLANET. It made me fall in love with them.
I saw them in Brisbane a few months ago, It was mesmerising. Also yes their drummer is absolutely unreal!
You honestly could react to literally every Sleep Token song and I'd be down for it. Absolutely love that band.
There is SO much more. Alkaline was my introduction to this band, too, and it left me with that same feeling of needing more, but you’ve heard just a sliver of this band’s abilities and Vessel’s vocal range. Take your pick: High Water, The Offering, Atlantic, Hypnosis, Calcutta, Blood Sport, Nazareth, Sugar, Give, Higher, Telomeres, Descending - heck, their whole catalog is a clinic in vocal range and god-tier drumming. Worship.
I love how dynamic his voice is, from those rich lows to some falsetto highs in other songs.
The instruments are no joke either... Ranging from atmospheric electronics to chugging, abyssal downtuned guitars--and the drummer is the king.
To this song i imagine a reversed "Beauty and the Beast" music video, like the Beast singing this alone is his chambers after being a monster in front of Beauty.
What I love about Sleep Token is the messages told within each song. Each song has its own genre. The album sundowning is very much a introduction to the band and the variety of styles they can deliver. The mystery behind vessel (vocalist) gives the band this darker feel. I find the band is well delivered and well thought out. My fav band around at the moment. So glad you experienced the awaking of Sleep Token. Two songs I would consider listening to off the first album is sugar and dark signs.
You're back! Admire your nerdiness and your passion. Thanks! learned a lot especially when you added a diagram of vocal tract like that:) Stay safe
I've been deeply in love with Vessel's vocal timbre for years now and it's a wonderfully fresh breath of air hearing an expert breakdown on the nuances of his voice.
I think one of their songs that really showcases his vocals is “High Water.” I simply do not get sick of listening to it, it gives you much more of a sense of satisfaction at the end of the song compared to alkaline where its leaving you wanting more.
Julia!!
I'm so glad you're back. And that you're returning with a reaction to my very favorite band.
Sleep Token isn't just a band. They are a life altering experience. The emotional heights and depths they bring their followers to is something that cannot be described with words
They are a British-based collective of musicians who expertly blend elements of rock, metal, hip hop, blues, gospel and ambient sounds in a way that a lot of us have been waiting for...for a very long time.
Vessel, vocalist and creative force behind the group, is truly remarkable. He's the cloaked, masked individual in the chair (the overpowered boss fight, as you referred to him lol). He appears in most of their videos (notably, not in the video for "Fall For Me," and we only see his old mask in the "Jaws" video). He's part Jeff Buckley, part Chris Cornell and part Dan Smith. He writes everything except the drums and all of the artistic elements are his brainchild.
You'll find most of the lyrics and songs are about heartache, unrequited love, etc. Vessel's muse is his previous partner from the project he was in before forming Sleep Token. Most of the video concepts he has come up with thus far seem to depict moments and imagery of life, death and rebirth, and the struggle to maintain one's being and soul. The character of Vessel, shown to have some variation of telekinesis/resistance to harm in this video, is shown in the video for "The Love You Want" to be vulnerable to a mortal wound from "the object of my desire" mentioned in this song, only to be reborn during that video's conclusion. So, take all of that for what you will lol.
II is a generational talent on drums. He plays with an unmatched combination of passion, ferocity, accuracy and groove. He's the true superstar of this band. They have released several of his solo playthroughs that are worth a watch simply because they showcase his mindblowing ability (for "Hypnosis," "Alkaline," and "Mine").
They perform in cloaks and masks, and thus far, have been able to keep to a minimum the number of people who know their true identities. Their stage show is phenomenal, with heavy investment in lights, pyro, smoke, and an accompanying three-piece female choir.
As fas as I know, Vessel and II are the only full time members of the band, and the guitarist and bassist are touring musicians similar to the unnamed ghouls in Ghost. However, I have heard rumors that one or both of them may now both be official members. Like most things, the group keeps that kind of thing pretty close to the chest.
Sleep Token's best work includes the songs "Atlantic," "Hypnosis," "Jaws," "The Offering," "Higher," "Blood Sport," "The Love You Want," "Sugar," "Mine," "High Water," "Fall For Me," and "The Night Does Not Belong to God," although they don't have a bad song.
Because only a handful of their songs have official videos, I would recommend "Jaws," "Blood Sport," and "The Love You Want" as additional choices to do reactions to. "Atlantic," "Hypnosis," "The Offering," and "Higher" are all breathtaking works, but only have Visualizer style videos.
I implore you to keep listening to Vessel sing. You're in for an experience.
Welcome to Sleep Token :)
We've been waiting for you. If you or anyone else have any questions about them, I'm happy to answer. :) I think you'll find I'm a particularly good source when it comes to this group.
Check out Blood Sport (From the Room Below) for a vocal and piano only dive into Sleep Token. Alkaline was my first ST song too. There are so many great songs on their current album it's had to recommend just one.
Also, don't let the culty stuff around the band steer you away. Gimmicks work better than they should...
This! For all the feels...
This needs to get pushed up to the top. Def my fav song from them.
The queen is back!
Great to see you again, wonderful that it's a Sleep Token track! My first intro was The Love You Want but if you want to know more about Vessel's voice, definitely check out Blood Sport (from The Room Below), it's just him on a piano
These guys kill it. Check out “Sugar” by Sleep Token. It’s even better. Freaking amazing.
Sugar is definitely one of my favourites. Good choice!
It’s one of my favorites as well! It showcases the higher part of his range well.
I started off literally liking 1 song from the band for a few weeks. gave them another chance a few months later and it started to grow on me. now im obsessed.
I've been absolutely in love with this band for like 2 years now they are my number 1 but I think you need to listen to high water that song really shows his vocal talent and range! Loved the reaction!!! 😁😁
I first heard Alkaline from another reaction channel a few months ago and I LOVE it. I've heard every song they have released now and I just want more.
god yes, Julia is back, and Sleep Token getting the praise they deserve
Welcome to the Sleep Token rabbit hole. Alkaline not the best for a first reaction IMO. As mentioned by others Atlantis and Hypnosis are great, and The offering which first pulled me into them. Fall for me is also unique. The drummer also has a couple of playthroughs on youtube for your interest, but maybe not for reactions as no vocals.
I think the best song for his vocals is Thier new one, aqua regia, his tone is just stunning, but also Sugar and Jaws for me got me hooked. I'm a singer and most of my music preference is based on the vocals, and ST are by far...very far the best...and he sounds exactly the same live as well, such a fantastic vocalist.
Hell yes! I have been so excited for your thoughts on this band because they are just so interesting and wonderfully complex!
The love you want, Scars, Gods, Blood Sport, Altlantic are just a few songs that live rent free in my head.
Hypnosis is also an amazing song AND our sweet demon child Will Ramos did a cover of this song too which I'd recommend if you want something different from Will!
As much as the vocals are pretty heavily produced, “Fall For Me” is an incredible song by Sleep Token. Imogen Heap vibes 100%
I've been suggesting Sleep Token to you for a year lol. Glad you finally came around!
Glad to see you back! Awesome analysis. There's loads of folks recommending songs, but I'm going to say if you want to revisit Sleep Token, you legitimately cannot go wrong with any choice of song.
Having said that, if you want something that demonstrates vocals, Blood Sport(from the room Below) is a solo piano/vocal version of one of their songs, you get a VERY clear look at his voice. Alternatively, High Water or Hypnosis.
Oh man. You're gonna love these guys. They're about the epitome of music you can FEEL. And so talented. I would recommend Bloodsport (from the room below), high water, higher, the way that you were, Atlantic, distraction, the love you want, missing limbs, jaws ugggh so many
so glad you checked out sleep token. I've been waiting for more vocal coaches to react to them. Criminally under rated band. I would recommend Hypnosis, jaws or bloodsport.
Can I just say how enjoyable it is to watch you react through your expressions when you're really digging an element or full composition. I'll never not enjoy watching your reactions as someone that's truly invested in a craft.
I have just found you and I'm so gutted you haven't done anymore Sleep Token songs, its such a big rabbit hole!
This is an amazing band.. if ya want.. their song Jericho is so good.. and you'd be able to hear more of his range.
you would love Atlantic. The singer "Vessel" actually plays the piano and some guitar. Also the songs that are "from the room below" are really cool, theyre more of a acoustic setting and his voice shines more in those songs.
I’m just glad you’re back. Carry on. ❤️
Should definitely do more Sleep Token. There's a surprising amount of musical influences in their stuff that ranges everywhere from synth pop to jazz surprisingly coherently, and he has a lot of really great vocals. Alkaline is honestly a pretty simple song as far as most of their stuff goes.
I'd definitely recommend "The Offering", "Jaws", and "Hypnosis" as good places to start.
Vessel, the name the singer goes by, has an incredible range. This does not show him at his best. Although for this particular song, it’s spot on. His falsetto, head voice is a wonder.
Sugar is a song where he’s almost entirely in falsetto and he makes it work well.
youre back! this makes me so happy you cant even fathom :) we missed our Julia! as for the song, its ok. ive never heard of Sleep Token before so youre introducing me to them so i cant help with your questions towards the end lmao. not the worst band but im def more into harder rock. all the same, this was satisfying to watch because well.... ITS A JULIA VIDEO WOOHOO!
You should try the songs higher and the offering
hypnosis too , the dynamics in that one are so good
So good to see you back here! You've been greatly missed. My day has been made better now!
It's so good to see you're back; I would've loved to of seen your reactions to quite an abundance of songs that have came out since you last uploaded. Hope all is well!
Great review! Sleep Token is just phenomenal. Virtually every song is great. That said, you’re going to get a lot of people requesting you listen to stuff from the new album and its processor (Sundowning), but their first EP is absolutely revelatory, IMO. One of the most amazing things to ever be released in the history of things being released. Their songs, Jaws and Calcutta, are equally extraordinary. Happy rabbit hole traveling!
His range is actually quite crazy, if you listen to take aim you can hear the real high notes all the way down to these low ones
Awesome reaction Julia, your insights on Vessel's vocal performance are enlightening. If you want to discover more of them I would recommend Calcutta, Jaws or any song from the room below. They're simply put, amazing artists.
You're back!!!!!! So cool to see you're doing fine !! :)
She is back! I have missed your videos and I’m glad to see you again!
It is sooo good to see you back. Great reaction as always
The return of RUclips's brightest smile! \o/ And a great song/analysis to come back with.
This band is so amazing. Vessel is easily one of the best voices in music right now. You need to check out Bloodsport (from the Room Below) to really hear the beautiful pain he puts forth.
First time hearing this Especially the drums did the magic here
Good to see you back julia!
Welcome back! Missed you and your analysis. Missed your sense of humor as well. 👏🤘❤️🔥
Welcome back Julia missed you I love your reactions/analysis and your honesty keep up the great work and I hope everything is going great for you hope to see you soon.
Wow, I was just thinking yesterday while watching some other reaction that I hadn't seen an upload from you in a while! Welcome back! I always love your analysis of things. :)
I am so so glad that you finally found them lmao, i would suggest you check out Chokehold next and Bloodsport (from the room below). Sugar is another one, that doesn't get the credit it desirves, but it is every bit as amazing as everything else they do, so if you like you can hear that too. Anyway, as always, awesome reaction/analysis and i can't wait to see which one you choose next
I am glad to see you!!! Hope this will be a regular thing!
Hell yeah! I love Sleep Token! To introduce some different recommendations than what have already been suggested: Higher, Sugar, Like That, The Offering are all really good vocally
What makes watching this video so Entertaining is the little kiddish Joy you see her have. Really infectious.
Just found these guys and wow I am blown away over and over and over what a voice and thumping drums wow. Now a bucket list band to see I cannot get enough. Beautiful voice like Einnar from Leprous and Daniel Tompkins and Joel from Soen, it's an awesome day when you find new music. A friend said " how do you find all this music" my answer is it finds me. Love ya work keep it up xx
Welcome back Julia! Hope you are doing well 😁 Good reaction as usual 😊 Sleep token are a very interesting band for me. I love their song hipnosis.
Bloodsport (From the Room Below).
I love this song! They also released a drum playthrough (Offering) of the song recently and without a singer it is still an amazing song! Even after listening to that version, you will still have the itch to get more tho. Also, welcome back Julia :D
Lovely to have you back! Hope you are well 😊
Welcome back Julia! You're among my favorite voice coach reactors, thankfully you've returned!
So nice to see you...I was late to Sleep Token, but having dived in, you now need to watch them live... completely different experience...
I have never heard this song or band before I watched this. But I’m always willing to listen something that you’re reacting to Julia. I liked it a lot, I’m going to pull it up on Apple Music and just listen and see if it still resonates. Love your voice also Julia! I’m going to search if you have some music also. If not point me to where I can listen or do some singing videos. I’d be so excited for those. Thanks for sharing this reaction!
The Offering, Sugar and Blood Sport are some of my favorites :).
I just found your channel and I really like your reactions and analysis. That's why I'm also confused as to why you haven't reviewed more Sleep Token. Throughout my life I've seen Pink Floyd, Dio, Rush, Journey, U2 and countless other great bands live... in the last 30 years I never wanted to see any band live more than Sleep Token. I got my wish on May 20, 2024 in Philadelphia - they were beyond amazing. I watched you dissect Spiritbox's "Ultraviolet" (another band I can't wait to see live) and you talked about layering and subtleties; things that Sleep Token also uses in ingenious ways. Please, if you even read comments on your older posts: review more Sleep Token!: Bloodsport (from the room below - not the studio version), Ascenionism, Telomeres, Higher... or just close your eyes and point at any song on any of their albums or singles... NOTE: The earliest recording (Thread the Needle) demonstrates what Vessel used to sound like, over the 7 years since then his vocals have become more articulate and nuanced. While I like Alkaline, I'd say there are more elaborate displays of his vocal prowess... I understand about "wanting more"; that's typical Sleep Token, although "Euclid" is an almost Journey-like anthem of resolution to their trilogy of albums. It would be premature to judge Sleep Token by Alkaline alone. Hearing "Take Me Back to Eden" live was a very intense experience and I would venture to say if you listened to it you might think it was too short (even though the runtime is over 8 minutes). I defy anyone to think that song is too long after hearing it. Vessel joins so many other versatile and unique vocalists and musicians like Courtney LaPlant, Ronnie Radke and so many others.
Btw: That "arachnid" prancing as a shadow in the window on Alkaline? if you look closely, it's actually the shadow of a branch-creature, not a spider... Still creepy!
I look forward to more of your reviews! Great work Julia!
We missed you! Happy you are back :)
Whoa, what a come back - that was wild!
Must look at some more of what they’re doing!
Good reaction as usual, plenty of nerdyness so all is good!
Don’t forget some more Warning, there’s plenty to look at!
You are back! You rewarded our patience royally 🥰
It’s so great to see your reactions again.I thought you’d stopped for good and that made me sad.
I cannot thank you enough for writting your thoughts instead of stopping the muzik every 15 seconds ❤❤❤ TY I will subscribe just because you did that (and I appreciate your comments of course) 😊
Bro, the summoning and the love you want have gotta 2 of my favourites sitting in up there with alkaline. The summoning due to how much of a variety that song has and the love you want, due to how beautiful the song is
OMG Julia you are back!!! Thank you for coming back to RUclips! Hopefully you were busy with good things in your life!
Great band. Been waiting for you to react to them.
Good to see you back Julia!
I love at 7:30 you’re giving so much to the music while backing away from the spider 😂 makes me giggle every time
The rabbit hole for this band is deep ..but my god it amazing
Wow, so glad to see you back. Hope all is well with you.
thank you for enriching our experience, now i know more :)
I like this reaction because you didn't talk over the music. You listened and it allowed us to listen with you. Thanks :)
Great to see you again Julia!
Nice to see you again 😀
love this reaction!! thank you so much for giving your thoughts!! i know i'm not the first person to say, but i still hope you'll check out more of them some day. personally i would love to see you react to either blood sport from the room below, or their cover of hallelujah! there's only like one good video of their hallelujah cover because they never recorded an official version, but it's absolutely gorgeous.
thank you so much again for this reaction and analysis! i love watching people react to sleep token for the first time 🥰
Finally back. Really missed you
Welcome back!!
I want nothing more right now than to see you react to their track The Summoning!
Such a fantastic band and as always an awesome reaction and breakdown from you! Keep it up 😁
Welcome back. Great song.
nice to see you uploading again. i want to say
thanks
if this universe is a magical one
we'll meet again. don't know where but i know we will meet again some sunny day
kwalas are for life not just for xmas
Yeeeah, you’re back! Finally!
a dark version of the killers? nice space, I'd love to hear part 2 (nightwish progression but in their own sound)
glad you are back Julia, been missin' ya of late.
Yay. More sleep token. Great to see you back.
Loved seeing you react to one of my all time favorite bands! :D Other folks already suggested some excellent songs from their two albums. They're absolutely incredible at building a song up and have a wonderful tonal range. I love Gods, which is on the heavy side, and The night does not belong to god, which is rather... Ethereal. For a reaction however I can definitely recommend hypnosis, like that and Bloodsport (from the room below). Also! It's definitely worth checking out their albums :D taking the time to listen to them is very rewarding
Love love love this!
So ready for you to hear more sleep token. The Summoning has just about everything you could ask for
The visuals are a reference to the story and mythology of the BAND themselves. They have no names or faces. The vocalist (guy in the mask) is just known as Vessel. They're a rock collective (but most put them in the metal genre somewhere). The mythos is that they're a cult worshipping an ancient god called "Sleep" and Vessel is His instrument. The clip makes far more sense once you know that.
