I would say it depends on what your field of study is that determines the best uni for you. Just because McGill or UofT might have ten or so renowned programs does not mean it could have a program of lesser notoriety than a uni not even on this list.
most of these rankings are designed to reflect US realities and are not best to rank unis in other countries. Local ratings and reviews would be much more useful for any decision regarding what uni to apply to.

According to these international ranking systems say QS, Times higher education and the Shanghai ranking , the Lakehead is not even within the top 1000 worldwide. The webometric system placed it "3064" in the world.
Top Universities I have heard that u of t is not a good place for medicine because they're curriculum is really hard and competitive so your gpa drops and you might not even get into medical school and their have been instances in which some students have had to change their entire career path because of the low gpa that they got. Definitely not true. You've been talking to some elitist folks. You don't need to go to a university in this list to get a job in your field. And at the same time, even if you go to one of these universities, you may still end up struggling to find a job in your field. As for community colleges, they just lead to different kinds of jobs than degrees do. A decent job in your field straight from community college is better than a 4-year degree with no job prospects. For most undergrad programs, it's far less important where you go than it is to have a stable home environment and come out of it with as little debt as possible. Completely agree. U of Waterloo is the premier school for Computer Science and Engineering. McGill is all about Law.
