Totally Rad really showed how localization was handled at the time. While the boy and girl got an anime inspired design in Magic John, the original Japanese version, they get a Bill-and-Ted-style design and script in this game.
When NC17 did a "review" of this game, he just went full "Therefore it's the game's fault that I suck at it" on it. With that said, I’m convinced NC17 has brain damage.
This game has the best instruction manual ever. Not only is it written completely in surfer dude "Bill and Ted" speak, but it constantly throws in stuff for no reason. Like a photo of an airplane in the middle of the story, because it's going on too long, or a photo of a random woman that the manual's author thought he lost who "looks hot". It's worth getting the game for the manual alone.
Scoring this game very high in the presentation department. It may be a Mega Man clone but there’s so much charm to complement the rad (yeah, going there, TOTALLY!) oddities it has to offer it’s easily forgivable. And I like that all the special abilities are available to you from the start, instead of having to earn them level by level like Mega Man and other similar platformers.
Love the totally tubular attitude of this game. That's quite a bit of humor for an NES game, let alone of the tongue-in-cheek variety. That's some mondo gnarly, like, parallax scrolling, dudes. Excellent!
1991 explains why this game looks so good for an NES game. Even with that they did a great job maximizing that console. Riding that line of flashing graphics constantly, ha.
Honestly, without the totally rad localization probably not many people would remember that this game exists; the JP version, Magic John, had a really unremarkable script. The game itself is alright though, fun for a playthrough or two.
Usually, I'm not a fan of English localizations that "punch up" dialogue. But in *_this_* particular instance were the original Japanese script is incredibly bland, I have to give the edge to the English version.
"Totally Rad" is Totally... meh. Certainly plays well, has decent music and is a good *_looking_* game. Love it or hate it, the English localization made the script a lot more memorable compared to "Magic John's" bland script. But it is nothing too remarkable compared to some of the biggest heavy hitters on the NES.
"Jake, they're like stealing me or something. Help!"
Help. Like, save me, and junk...
I mean, this narcissist is lowkey LITERALLY STEALING me or whatever! Amidoinitrite?
Damn it, I read that in Arin Hanson's "Surfer Dude" voice.🤣
@@knuclear200x Stop, no, come back....
@Dorian_Scott Same! It was incredible, that Grumps video was a classic!
I was always impressed by the artstyle boss sprites. Now that I know more about how the NES worked, I'm even more impressed!
Jake: Can't we just skip the acrobatics?
Also Jake: *can already flip like Samus*
Loved this game growing up. Graphics were way ahead of their time for NES
Adoro esse canal, pq posta jogos que eu não conhecia!
Adoro os games do NES!
Megaman 2 e 3 são os meus preferidos!
Obrigado!
Abraço do Brazil!

this game's dialogue is like, totally tubular and rad dude!

The photo of the woman with the big hair always cracked me up.

This was my Jam as a kid, it was my first “mega man” like experience
Never played this, but it totally turned into kid icarus almost right at the start. Kinda cool.
I had to have this game when it came out. I remember my very first time playing it like it was yesterday
This is a masterpiece of a video! 👍😊🤩

Way copacetic.

Some games have warnings about epilepsy on the first boot, meanwhile this game hits you with flashing colors the second it starts lol.
Yeah, the game has a lot of harsh flashing throughout. The magic spell effects are especially bad.

I'll never not imagine this game without the Grumps' hilarious commentary and voiceovers 😆 🤣
this game looks totally rad.
It really does

I despised the circus level. But really enjoyed this game as a kid!
This game has all the plot depth of, "The president has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to save the president?" 😎
So Rad.
Cool music already
They need to renew this game for the Gen Alpha audience and call it Skibidi Sigma
It has to include slang like "rizz," "based," "sigma male," etc.
Zebediah tho
On an Aicom kick lately, are ya?
Something like that 😅
nice like 😀
It was weird, and today it's still a weird game
Awesome game dude! When can we see some picross games videos please thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
MAGIC JOHN
Righteous dudes play rad games.
Bossa nova!
In early seconds, it's a part of a famouse music, anyone knows the name of it please?
Some parts of it sounds like Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty if you're talking about the intro.
@marcelosoares7148 unfortunately it's not it, thanks for replying 👍🏻
If you're talking about the inside of the circus tent, the song you're looking for is called "Entrance of the Gladiators"
This game should suck, but it doesn't, it's totally rad. I always get it mixed up with Kid Kool due to their generic names.
Colônia Contra-Ataca me trouxe aqui

Like if you recognize the title from some 7 days to die RUclipsr from Jersey.
Megaman inspired? 🤔😆
First 🥇
Whut
did the ninja turtles make this game ?
The story line and the dialogues in this game are pure garbage 🤦♂️
