I have a weird memory linked to Toki. I rented it because I loved the arcade game, and I vividly remember my Mom watching Young & the Restless in the living room. It was when Victor got shot. I only beat the game because the final stage had that respawing 1-Up, made it nearly impossible to fail.
This game was balls hard in the arcade. Even playing it on mame with unlimited lives was near impossible. I had to turn all of the cheats on and it is still hard as balls.
This is the cutest "chibi" looking version of Toki! I've always loved how goofy this game was, with the football helmet and jumping shoes power ups and whatnot. The villain being named "Bashtar" is also a winner.
Something to take note is that the American version of Toki on the NES is actually the more lenient version as he can take at least 2 hits before biting the dust. The Famicom version retains the arcade version's "one hit and you're dead'' system.
I've never fully understood why in some NES games sprites or graphics or whatever you call it will like glitch out and disappear or kind of flash off and on. When they disappear it seems like only the image disappears, and the hit boxes etc will still apply. I've seen this happen in a ton of games. Is it a memory issue? It does seem like it happens more when there's more going on on the screen, but i cant say for sure that it doesn't happen in slower environs. Ive always been curious as to why. Seems weird to have a console and games and its just normally accepted that sometimes things on the screen will disappear
The NES could only display 8 sprite tiles on a horizontal line at a time. The flicker is programmed in to make sure that everything important remains visible at least most of the time.
Toki is tough but satisfying, and it's an excellent translation of Tad's classic arcade platformer.
Tough?
The Famicom version JUJU DENSETSU is one hit kill the entire game.
I played the Sega version. The thing that game needed was a *DASH* button. The gameplay was too static without it.

Haha, that's hilarious. It's always funny to me how such incidental things can stand out in hindsight.

Not unless u enable no damage, then it's unstoppable. Worked for me.

You think he's related to Ashtar from Ninja Gaiden 2?
This looks like a solid port from the arcade. I purchased the arcade version on the Switch and my God is the game hard!
Yeah, definitely. The Genesis version is, too. One of the hardest platformers I can recall playing.

Ah yeah, you're right. I think most versions of it had one hit deaths.
Weird. Usually, the western releases of games are much more difficult than the original Japanese version.
Only 2 hit points? Sounds like Ghouls N' Ghosts to me!
@@NintendoComplete The NES and Atari Lynx Versions had the health bar and the rest retained the one hit deaths.
Damn, the music for stage 2 is amazing. Is this jazz or something?
Looks like a cool game I never heard of it
Most know the Sega genesis version
The Toki OST on the Sega was good too, NGL.
Ah~ I remember when I saved up money and went to buy this game with my little brother. I played the japanese versión though.
There was a game show on Nickelodeon that had arcade games, and the contestants would almost always choose Toki. Dunno why, cuz it was tough! 😅
Loved the game don't think I even passed the first level on any variation other than the recent remake

Only know about this game from the old Jontron era Game Grumps episode.
Not a bumblebee
Nick Arcade brought me here.
Brutal port!
Mmm. Monkey.
Este juego es genial 😊
Will you do clock tower rewind since you’ve played the other clock tower games?
Aside from a few new additions, isn't it pretty much the same thing as the SNES/PS1 version?
Amazing fun cool stupendous and spectacular video! 😊👍🤩
That's what I call going ape spit.
Haha, oh Sega. So edgy.
