      I’ve seen one guy take a spatula, put double-sided tape on one side stick it in the drive and pull out three discs that were stuck in there and he fixed his issue. There’s no telling what’s wrong with yours so most likely you’ll have to open it up and fix it or have some professional do it. You can manually insert disc’s. there’s a manual screw You can turn to insert and eject the disc. you’ll have to look up your particular model on where it’s located.

    I’m having this problem because my brother pulled the disc out because it wouldn’t come out and now it won’t take a disc ever since

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  2 года назад

      There’s a way to insert and eject manually. You’ll have to search your model to find where the manual eject screw is. It Takes a tiny Phillips screwdriver. If things are too jacked in there I guess it won’t work though. Also turn off the PS4 before you do it.

    Ok I did this and it didn’t work
    But when I did it and left the disc in when I manually inserted it thru the manual way it read the disc
    So it’s basically just not ejecting and taking them in idk what to do at this point

      Also when I press the eject with or without a disc in it beeps like it’s empty

      Unfortunately there are many things that can go wrong in a disc drive. Could be a ribbon cable issue, maybe the motor that controls the rollers is bad or the sensors that trigger that motor are bad. Maybe the belt broke or is slipping causing the gears to not engage... Hard to tell. Its possible you'll need a replacement disc drive. If you do, order the correct model. Keep the board that was on your original disc drive. Never separate your PS4 and that disc drive board.
      I've seen one PS4 that will not work with any disc drive. Hopefully yours isn't doing that.

      In notifications you can cancel the failed attempted download as it can hinder the newer attempt. This was a tip I read last time I had this issue. Also in safe mode you can select rebuild database, it’s like Defragging your computer and won’t erase anything. I would do both these things before new attempt at the download. If all that doesn’t work (especially if it’s an older PS4) you’ll have to fully initialize your HDD (wipe everything) to get the Drive back to normal. Also located in safe mode.
      Hope this helps.

      I don't know what model ps4 you have but if it's an early model where the disc drive has a daughter board on it, then it could be an issue with that board. You can't replace them because they are "married" to the motherboard.
      If it's a later model ps4 without disc drive daughter board then it could be a fuse on the motherboard.

      To fix it would be to disassemble it, clean it out, find what exactly is causing the issue then reassemble. Many times I fixed issues like that with just a disassembly and cleaning. It's possible there's something foreign in there or a cracked gear might cause that.

      Examine your ribbon cables too to make sure none are damaged either on the pins or cable. You might have to pull the drive out and take the top and bottom covers off to see if everything is in place. You can also use the manual eject spindle with a screwdriver to manually suck a disc in. While the drive is out, this is a good way to observe if everything is hunky dory.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  5 лет назад +1

      I'm assuming it won't take in a game. It's possible you might have dislodged the plastic spacer in-between the two rollers. One roller is connected to the gears, the spacer connects the free spinning roller to the motorized one. If the spacer pops out then the drive can't suck in the game. That's one possibility.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  3 года назад

      I reckon it’s either a dead motor (the one that spins the rollers and such) or there may be a motherboard issue. If you got an old fatty, those have a “daughter board” that sit on the disc drive that can take a crap on you. They are also flashed to the main board and can be rather complicated. But it could also be an issue with the main board, killing communication with the disc drive. You gotta consult a real tech for that issue. I’m but a lowly part swapper.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  3 года назад +1

      Try manually inserting a disc while the PS4 is off. Once powered on If the disc drive does not acknowledge the disc in any way then it’s looking like a motherboard issue. Communication/power is not arriving to the drive.

      What I would do is take it a part again and slowly check every part of the drive to make sure there is no obstructions inside that might be causing The rollers not to go down. Once I put it back together I will use the manual eject Spindle to see if the drive will suck in a disc. I do that before putting the drive back into the machine.

      Retro Fix hi, I have reopened it and the rollers look fine although I have found a spring (tiny) that I am unsure of where it goes. I have a spring under the rollers so it’s not that one. Any idea where the other should be placed. Thanks

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  4 года назад

      a spring for the manual insert/eject “spindle” uses a tiny spring which keeps the spindle gear off the other gears (until you press down with a tiny Philips screw driver to use.) in certain models the spring will go flying out when you open the “lid” of the drive. That’s what it sounds like to me. There are other springs in there too but those are harder to pop out so I imagine it’s the manual eject spindle spring.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  2 года назад

      The manual eject spindle has a little spring and sometimes for whatever reason but usually when somebody’s been inside, that spring wasn’t put back right and it grabs the gears as they turn to suck in a disc or eject it. You should be fine. But you never know when that will jack up the gears inside.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  3 года назад

      If it only “rattles” when the disc is going in or coming out I would suspect that the little spring for the manual eject spindle came out of its “nook” and is rubbing up against the gears. Almost a crunching noise rather than a rattling though so yours may be a different issue.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  4 года назад

      If I’m understanding your issue correctly:
      There are little pieces of metal under the shells which lead to the touch buttons located on the outside of the PS4 shells, when you put the shells back on it can be easy to accidentally smash them or bend them. The touch button won’t work because the metal inside the Shell can’t touch the copper pad sensor on the motherboard. This connection happens when the Shell is snapped back on to the PS4 chassis.
      You would have to bend them back into shape and line them up juuuust right. It can be very time consuming.
      Also check to make sure that both touchpads on the motherboard actually work and are not faulty. Do that first when you remove the shells.
      That’s where I would start.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  4 года назад

      @@PP-ek4kt my advice on those newly listed issues: your HDD may be starting to go out. If you’re not concerned with save data, I would try to re-install system software using the USB method. That will wipe the disc completely. You can try to rebuild database if you haven’t already but I assume you have. A faulty or “un-well” HDD can do all kinds of silly things like that. If that don’t work slap a different 500 gig in there. If it keeps giving you crap then it wasn’t the HDD... lol sometimes you get a troll up in your system and it’s the only way to weed them out.
      I believe those models have 1 or 2 visible wires, unplug them, make sure they’re not Messed up, re-plug them. You can try that first when you get back inside.

      VampyrMik Your best bet is to locate a computer repair shop near you that handles gaming consoles. If the rollers are very dirty they’ll still try to work but won’t suck in the disc. If you have a more serious issue then the gear motor is your culprit or even the rubber band that connects the motor to the gears could be gone or bad. Also there could be a blown capacitor somewhere that causes lower amounts of power (or no power) to the drive. All in all you’re gonna have to take it into a professional.

Once you are confident that everything is in place, put the disc drive back together and use the manual inject/eject spindle to suck in a disc and make sure everything’s working before you put the PS4 back together.

      It's likely that water got into the button boards and corroded them. It's possible to remove them and clean the corrosion off or buy new ones. It's tricky to get them out, I would recommend a professional. If u do it yourself, check out PS4 pro disassembly videos and you will get a good idea of how to take the console apart and get at those button boards. If the water got to the motherboard there could be serious damage which would explain why the drive won't take a disc or maybe the drive sensor got damaged. Really no way to tell what the water broke until inside the console.

That fee could be $45 - $70 depending on shop but total out of pocket cost may get close, if not above, 200. But they'll call you with how much more it'll be to fix and check with you to see if u want to proceed.

    My PS4 doesn't have a disc inside. What should I do?

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  4 года назад

      There are several things that could be wrong. Rollers popped off or too dirty, a gear broke, the intake motor died or worst case scenario is something is wrong with the motherboard (and/ or daughter board for the disc drive- if you have an earlier model) causing no (or not enough) power to go to the disc drive.
      You will likely have to take the PS4 to a computer repair shop in your area. They likely fix game consoles too.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  5 лет назад

      You can use a small Philips screwdriver and manually remove and insert discs. You may be able to input the model number of your pS4 (like cuh-1215a) - followed by "manual disc removal" and find where to stick the screwdriver. They change the location with every model.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  5 лет назад

      @@szymon6776 oh boy. There are two rollers that are connected by a plasting fitting. If it pops out (which happens) it is not possible to get the disc in and out, the rollers become ineffective. Also could be a gear that popped out, which is right around the rooler that is connected to the rest of the gears. I've seen that before too. It will need service by someone with experience. At my shop I'd have you going again for $65. Just to give you an idea on price.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  6 лет назад

      During a manual disc insertion, are you unable to spin the 'manual insertion screw' when it gets to the top magnet part or does the screw just keep spinning and nothing else happens?
      I tried my damndest to make my question make sense... Lol.
      A couple things you can check. Make sure the magnet is properly in it's holster and that the magnet is not upside down.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  5 лет назад +1

      I've come across a few PS4s now that the disc drive is completely dead. My suspicion is either the daughter board for the disc drive has taken a crap or the motherboard has some components go out that control power to the disc drive. Not saying this is what has happened to you but it's a possibility. Hopefully for you the plastic piece which joins the two rollers (that suck the disc in) has popped off. That would be preferable to a dead drive.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  5 лет назад

      I see. So someone was inside your PS4. That changes things. Your download PSN games won't be affected unless the PS4 motherboard senses something suspicious with your disc drive. It basically will brick itself if it thinks "moding" is going on. You'll need a replacement PS4 to play your purchased DLC if it does that.

    • @RetroFix
      @RetroFix  4 года назад

      Disc drives can be very frustrating to work on. The most frustrating ones I worked on turned out to be more of a motherboard issue such as a capacitor that died or even some of the controller chips go out which really sucks especially when you don’t do micro soldering like me. If you are fortunate your disc drive May have a drive wheel that went out Or a belt that is too loose or broke, the rollers that take in the disc could be super dirty or popped out. Hell I got some to work just by taking it apart and putting it back together again. If it’s none of those then you got a motherboard issue on your hands. Computer repair shops in your area may service game consoles.

I had one PS4 that wouldn’t read discs but when I flipped the machine over it would read every disc great but that doesn’t happen with every PS4 that doesn’t read a discs. You know I’m saying? But your suggestion is definitely worth a try!

    • @Jnoel608

      I doubted it but tried it anyway. PS4 pushed out the stuck CD, then I inserted it again and the PS4 pulled it in. WOW. After I opened it and everything. Maybe it had something to do with the bottom rubber under the optical drive. I removed that rubber to stop the CD from auto ejecting months ago. Anyway, Thanks. That helped.

      @@tyrekecarter1406 Sometimes you just need to take the drive apart again and put it back together. If one little thing is not sitting correctly, that problem you have can happen.
      In my early days of fixing PS4 drives I would have this issue so what I would do is take it apart and use my fingers to test gears and pulleys and look to see all pathways are un-obstructed. I basically try to reverse engineer how the disk drive works in my mind. Eventually I’d come to the issue.
