BATHTUB UPDATE VIDEO! ruclips.net/video/d5VYwYBSyUc/видео.html
ADDRESSING A FEW THINGS because who knew people could get so upset about someone else's bath tub!!
1. we did not put black tar in the tub.. when we took out the bath fitter the tar was underneath
2. we DID follow the instructions except for the type of paint brush because everyone in the reviews said NOT to use the paint brush it recommends
3. this product is known for bubbling, almost every review said that on the product page
4. we did not install a new bath tub because
A) to take out a 300 pound bath tub with just me and my husband is not easy. we would have had to of broken to the tub to pieces to get it out
B) we liked the tub's design and age and didn't want to waste it
5. My parents have done this and it has lasted them years and still NO chipping, if you do it the right way it won't chip
6. We can scrub this tub hard and nothing chips or peels
7. We are only 24 and 25 years old.. buying a house in New York at our age is a HUGE accomplishment. We are doing things to save money and be wise. For older people to comment rude remarks is very sad. Let's be happy for others and build each other up. If you have suggestions you can say them without being rude.
Rude comments will get deleted automatically, this channel is about having fun and making your home look nice on a budget
Don't let nasty comments bring you down. You have nothing to explain really if people don't like it they shouldn't watch it. I'm sorry if my comment about the roller you found offensive, it truly wasn't meant to be I was only trying to be helpful. We also try and make home improvements on a tight budget so I completely understand where you're coming from.
@@jillanthony5191 oh my goodness it was not your comment at all! don't worry, yours was so kind and helpful!! the rude ones I've already deleted and I don't bother responding to because it's not worth my energy!
Does it come in different colors? It looks really good
@@jnunya1805 Almond, Biscuit, and White
I think you did a great job. I too got the harsh comments by "professionals" under a similar video I did. People just look for reasons to be upset. It works for you so that's all that matters
Using the rag roller introduced air into the paint and created the bubbles. It also leaves a textured finish. Use a foam roller next time.
the outcome for $24 is a great deal, you could have helped the adhesion process by cleaning with denatured alcohol which would have removed any leftover oils from the tar, maybe even a lacquer thiner, but nevertheless its a day and night difference.
Separation is oils in the surface. If you redo it I suggest wiping it with a tack cloth then maybe isopropyl alcohol.
🛁You guys did a great job!!👍 I NEVER would have expected tar in the tub, I swear I would have bawled like a baby. I am sorry you had to explain yourself in your pinned comment, you and your husband rock!! To be that young and have a home 🏘💸💰in NY is a huge accomplishment ( I live in Northern NJ, so I get it) I totally understand why you made some of the choices you did. You just earned yourself a new subbie🖤🖤
One tip - be sure to dry your tub with your floor towel (or whatever towel) after you use it. It only takes a second and preserves the life of the paint (plus keeps it clean). I have a cast iron claw foot that was redone with porcelain about 30 years ago and it looked great up until about a month ago when I accidentally left water sitting under the hose that I use to wash the dogs. As a result, that one area directly under the hose lost its finish. I’m usually good about remembering to wipe it down but I also have to dry a crazy Jack Russell terrier before she runs down the steps wet so there’s that.
Whoa! I am so glad that I found your video! ...Was going to hire a contractor to restore my yucky shower pan, but this is what I'm going to try first. Thank You so much.
Congrats. Saving money is the name of the game. Keep on doing great things and teaching us how tom save money!!!!! yay
Holy-Moly! Can't believe you managed to salvage your old tub. I would have given up when I saw the tar. Cried, then said: "Take it away." How much would a new tube have cost you? You and Connor are amazing. How many hours did you spend cleaning out the horrid black tar? I had no idea you could paint your tub and have it come out almost like new! Congratulations! Well done!🌈🌈🌈
Marie M. Conroy New tub of that quality would be £200 or so - it's acrylic single skin - this stuff we used to sell in 80s but no need nowadays with modern material!
Found your channel today and literally binged all your videos in one day...
Hi, could you give a three month update? Just to hear feedback.
Thank you so much for your detailed video. I'm in the process of redoing our bathroom, it desperately needs help. New sub here.
Aloha from Hawai'i.
I painted my bathroom tub I had the old cast iron style pink color tub but the only good thing is how deep the older Tabs are the newer tubs are more shallow but priming the tub very important and two light coats which would equal 1 thick and be prepared to have a open window or a vent fan because the paint is very strong smell but highly recommended
That first coat was sooo satisfying!!! Great job, Emelyne! Your tub looks amazing, and really impressive!
Kelly Delaney right?!😍 and thank you sooo much!!
You did a great job making this video! If you're ever doing multiple coats of a durable paint, you could use an extra fine sandpaper in between coats. Your tub looked thousands of times better!
Your bathroom looks amazing now, great job for low spend! x
Great Job, remodeling is fun, I love home projects.
Wow! What a transformation. It turned out great. And such an amazing price!!
Cassie J thank you! I still can’t get over the price!
You persevered and now it looks great!
Thank you for sharing your experience with this product. I want to do this to our shower sooo bad and now I know it can be done. I’m wondering if maybe you didn’t sand the tub hard enough to get all the old paint off so the new paint couldn’t stick as well. Either way, it looks great and I will be trying this product as well. Thanks again!
I’d love an update on how this is holding up 💕
just posted the update!
I have to try this on my cast iron tub...you give me hope.
Perfect timing! We’re actually painting the one shower in the house we’re flipping 😎 I’ve been looking into this stuff glad to see it in action!
Amanda C. Plus Three that’s awesome!! Good luck with the flip!
Where did you get the tub and tile for $23? I've priced them and they range from $80 to $180.
Looks amazing, can I use it to paint the sides of shower walls?
Good Job. Thanks for sharing! Very Helpful and cost savings is worth the effort.
Use a hair dryer to make the bubbles come up and out
That's awesome! It gives me hope of fixing my 65 year old tub, I hope it can be used on porcelain.
Wow this is interesting! I may need to do this with my bathtub! Love the home improvement videos.
Oh.McKenzie you should try it! It was such an easy fix!
Em looks so pretty in this video!
Felina Aara Ahmed I will!! I’ve been in the mood for vintage shopping lately! I’m going to a flea market tomorrow so I will vlog it💓
That’s actually crazy how your tub went from black tar in it to looking actually good!
Ps. Small RUclipsr here!
I've often wondered what it would be like to paint a bathtub, & now I know. And I really want to do it. Lol.
I also want to paint a carpet - maybe a mat/rug would be a better start. And to win the UK lottery.... 🤪🤪
I love how it turned out for you, I think you did a great job!!!
Glad I found this I moved in my new apartment and the paint is chipping so it need to be revamped lol
Those holes are called fish eye. Its from impurities and oils left behind. From what I hear these kits are horrible about that. You can use denatured alcohol or acetone to get any oil residue off usually. But its definately a huge improvement
We paid a “professional” to paint our two tubs...lasted about three months right now. Looks like total crap. $600 down the drain, literally.
How many times did you say “paint” in the video? Of course it was epoxy paint. We had a “professional” do it. It didn’t last three months, with us being extremely careful with it. I hope your results are much better. Our experience with it is that it was a total waste of money.
Wow beautiful job 😳
Yay! I was waiting for another home improvement video! Love this series, and love seeing your home make its cute and cozy transformation! :)
MirrorFame thank you so much!!
Loved this!! Maybe the people that said they used multiple cans of paint for their bathtub they had a free standing one and had to do the outside as well as the inside! Just a thought. Love your vids!
Marissa Mae so true! Those tubs are so dreamy😍
I know I can’t paint anything in my apartment but my tub is all scratched up and there’s this odd orange patch that I guess they must of patched up a crack or something.. super bulky weird patch. There’s also this little area of this dark stain stuff I can seem to scrub off ☹️ might just paint anyways lol
Oil and stuff left on tub. Have to clean it really good before painting. Orange peel look. Wipe with alcohol. To remove all oils off tub
WTH what is that ? I actually thought it was a marble finish tub i was excited 😂I’m looking for another color tub besides white, i wanna di black or stainless steel
You should use a foam roller. But great job :)
You are the best
So amazing...i missed the part where the tar come from?
It had a fitted overlay or covering, like BathFitter uses, and it was sealed with tar to bond it.
Start from the beginning.
A light sand between coats would prevent bubbles
How long did the paint last?
just posted the update!
The bubble looking things are the oils on the surface, but looks great x
Great video! Thanks
Turned out great. You ended up with so many air bubbles because of the type of roller you used. You should have used the type for smooth surfaces, they almost feel like a magic eraser.
thank you! this is the same roller we used for painting the kitchen tiles, we had no air bubbles for that project. This paint product is known for bubbling unfortunately!
Our Little Nest I wonder if it also has to do with the shape of the tub being curved verse the floor being flat? It's a definite improvement and if it doesn't chip I wouldn't worry about it..
@@jillanthony5191 that could definitely be it! I think I'm going to do it again with a few more coats in hopes that it fills those old bubbles!
That came out great! I love how shiny it looks.
Leslie from Morning Mist Gardens thank you! So happy I found this product!!
I never thought of painting my tub 🛀 🧐
such an inexpensive fix!!
Our Little Nest very
love your videos 🌈
Do you think this would work on a tub with weird built in like non slip marks? Idk I live in a rental and the tub and sink are just ridiculous I’d like to fix them up if I could
great job! I had this same tub in lime green in terrible shape and yes it's super heavy. we had to demo it. your job looks great!!
Can you do another review on your tub....
the tub looks exactly the same as the day we painted it, I scrub it to clean and have no issues with chipping or peeling
just posted the update!
Did you ever clean the tub or was the sanding sufficient??
I cleaned the tub first
How is it to clean? How do u get rid of soap scum without ruining finish
You can mix just in the big can,.
Yes. You pour the small can in the large can and mix
@@NextGenerationHealth there was not enough room in the big can to do that
How do you get tar in your bathtub?
when we took out the bath fitter the tar was underneath
With every coat the holes lessoned.
Why have tar in your bathtub
why'd you put tar in the tub?
when we took out the bath fitter the tar was underneath
Yo we have the same name, I've never met anybody with the same name as mine so wazzup😂😂
I think I would have gotten Bathfitters to have done it.
Vera Shular haha we thought about that but we were determined to save money!
Hate to tell you this chips off within a year or so
Not if the prep work was done correctly
You would've been better off getting a new tub. This stuff doesn't last.
it's lasted years for my parents and still hasn't chipped
This looks pretty good now, but In about 3 months this will start to peel off and look as bad, if not worse than before.
Not if the prep work was done correctly
just posted the update on how it is now 4 months later
