As most of you know, replacing tile would cost thousands of dollars 💰. I luckily came across this product and now remodeled an entire bathroom using it and I couldn't be happier - it took 3 kits to do my whole bathroom. If you just have a bathtub with tile above it, I'm sure you could get away with just 2 kits.

The Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit is as simple as mixing Part A with Part B, rolling it onto the bathtub and the tile, and then applying a second coat. The hardest part about all of this is cleaning the tile and prep work you'll need to do before painting this finish on the tile.
💦I used soap and water for the first cleaning, sanded down the tile to remove even more dirt and to make abrasions in the tile, then cleaned again, then painted.
The whole thing is pretty simple and I hope you get the same results with the Rustoleum Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit that I did to turn your bathroom tile as white and clean as mine! (I am not sponsored, just loved this stuff).

*Update:* Tenants just moved out and I got a new look at the tub. 2 years and STILL perfect under 2 different renters. See you next June for 3 yrs (hopefully my tenants don't move tho).
This product has now lasted 1 entire year with a tenant using it and there are *NO* issues so far.
It's the only bathroom in the house so it got a ton of use - so I'm happy with this. What is your experience with this?
Thanks for the video. I've heard from other investors that the kit doesn't hold up. How many coats did you use? Are there any special instructions you gave the tenant about cleaning?
@@JasonJFlippingLife I've also seen the mix of good reviews and bad reviews so I was skeptical at first. I think it ultimately comes down to cleaning still and I doubt most people bother with sanding (which also cleaned a ton of gunk). I put on 2 coats and went really heavy with the 2nd one between the grout lines. I didnt ask the tenant to do anything special, but he did seem like a clean dude.

The circle on the toothbrush holder is to hold a cup. After brushing, use the cup for water or mouthwash to rinse your mouth out. 😉

Just removed 14 year old caulk and silicone sealant from tub/shower with NO CHEMICALS :) I used a hairdryer, a box cutter and patiently pulled it off bit by bit. Happy DYIing and thank you for this @KellyConcepts

Thank you for this video! We bought a flip house where the ladies who did this home didn't do the tubs correctly. Less than a year into this house we noticed the sealant in the tub was flaking off. We have family living with us now and we have to redo the entire shower in the guest bathroom. This is a must watch video for anyone needing to make their old shower look new! (We bought a 1970's home so one slower is a hideous green and the other is a rose pink color. They have both been redone in white and look brand new.... Except for the flaking we are fixing this week.)
How did you fix the flaking? Sand it down to the tile and redo it?

I just tried this. Some things worth mentioning: You need a ton of foam rollers - I went through 9 or 10 and I didn't even finish the bathroom. This stuff disintegrates the foam almost on contact. Also, you need to pay extra attention to grout lines. The house we bought is 60 years old and the grout was super eroded, so the rollers did not get down far enough to cover them with paint. I had to spend a lot of extra time running a foam brush along the grout lines so they would get painted. The soap dish is very hard to paint and have it look evenly coated. And, this stuff doesn't go very far...my bathroom is 6'x7' with tile half way up 7' walls and a tiled stall shower. I only got through 2 walls and the stall shower with the first coat/kit. I opened the second kit, and like others have mentioned, though I stirred the requisite 3 minutes, (and had no problems with the first kit) this kit was watery and never quite thickened. So, I had to use a ton to try and cover the bit of blue tile still coming through, and ended up not having enough to do a second coat all the way to where I'd finished the first coat. So, my bathroom looks crazy, and I'm not sure what to do since this is only available online and takes weeks to get delivered.
Home Depot sells a version by Homax called Tough & Tile refinishing kit. Hope this helps.

Not gonna lie, I liked it when it was pinkish-orangish-tan with rust colored trim. But I get it that you had to do this for your rental. I love the American 1950s tiled bathrooms. Thanks for the informative vid and true to life demonstration. It will be helpful when I turn a white tiled bathroom to the color of my choice.
Same. I have white tiles with black trim on top. I want to save the black on top but won't look right I feel. I will tape off black skinny row at top and see how it goes. If no good then I will paint those tiles after.
I agree. Sad to see the unique character be painted away. I’m actually here for help trying to restore the original character of my 1954 bathroom.

I also have the exact bathroom ! I guess it was a thing back then lol we live on the country side and water is hard even with water filter and all that I’m wondering if it’ll work on this transformation .... I usually use toilet Lysol cleaner because it’s the only thing I’ve bought that works on yellow water stains ? Has anything like this happened to anyone PLEASE ! Would hate to do all the work and investment to not work but I really fo wish to upgrade !
We have a 1956 house with bathrooms with exact tile (pink in one bathroom tan in other) and exact same tubs. Ours are sans the windows in the shower but even the towel bar and sink “fixtures” match. The tub is a jack hammer removal, and anything attached on tile is done so with screws through the til so one has to remove tile to change it. Definitely they built them to last LOL! This video is handy. When I decided to resurface my tub, I did a lot of research, and the product you used is the one I found to be affordable and with a beautiful finish. Then I thought, why not do the tile, and as I contemplated this thought, I was thinking of breaking the walk and putting new tile, but I am so glad I ran into your video because I had not thought about using the same product for the tile and more. I am impressed at how nicely your entire bathroom restoration turned out. You inspired me to do the same. I'm so excited can't want to get started. If you have time, can you please answer one question. I have specks of mold in-between the tile crevices in some areas more than others, and my number one reason for wanting to remove the tile. I will curate the mold specks a day before, but with time will the mold seep through the restoring product? Thank you for doing such an awesome RUclips video. 😁
I had the same question, did you ever complete the job and how did you prep or get rid of the moldy crevices between tiles. Did the mold come back after renovating?
Looks great. The 5:47 circle is for soap, people used to use soap to brush their teeth.
I thought it was for a glass that you use for swishing :)

After a year of tenant use, there were ZERO issues with this product. Again it's only been used for 1 year so I can't speak about longevity too much but I'm happy with it so far.
Also, for me - I don't expect this to be a permanent product but hoping it can delay replacing the 1950s tile for 5 more years or so...

Unless your budget is super tight, it would be better to replace the tub and tile. The paint won't last long. It normally last 3 to 5 years and it will start to peel.
@@lishen9223 it turned out quite well. I'm fine with this being a 3-5 year temporary fix. Once it does deteriorate I'll definitely look at replacement options.

I have some doubts about sanding, i think that i have remove all the old coating from tiles but it seems in ur video that after sanding they r still shining so remaining old coating is not a problem.

From personal experience, most important step is the prep work, cleaning and sanding! You need the surface clean enough to eat off (but don't really do that 😉).
I used this on a bathroom abt 2 years ago and my sister did last year, same product, same color. Mine is still going strong while hers is not to put it kindly. The only difference, she only cleaned her tile once and then went straight to applying, no sand, no deep clean. I can't stress enough how important that is!
Our bathrooms are in vacation rental, so also very heavy use by people who don't care the way you do for your own home, just fyi.

I plan to start this project tomorrow- redoing the pinky beige wheat sheaf 70’s bathtub tiles. I have all the supplies laid out and just have to get the gumption. The box says to use a brush but he’s using a roller, which would be much easier and faster. I’m going to leave the tub though as I don’t trust that this stuff won’t chip or peel at some point. I can live with it the way it is by putting a good quality bathmat on the bottom. At least until the magic day I can afford to renovate the bathroom. I can wish...
I like my old tile and want to keep it. I just want to fix the area on some tiles where the glaze has rubbed off.

My house was built in the 60s and this is the exact tile. It’s on the floors, walls and in the tub/shower! I hate it!
Is you floor pink too? Ive been trying to figure out how old my home is and the tile is sort like this too pink/burgundy though

And sometimes purples and teals were all popular
Mine was built in the 50’s: My full bath was baby blue and yellow and the half bath is turquoise and white. So far, we’ve renovated the full bath (hated the baby blue/yellow) but still debating what to do to my turquoise half bath. This vid is a great idea!

2 questions for you. How long did you wait between the first and second coat? Also, how did you do the small detailed spaces? Like the soap holder and toilet paper roll holder?.. did you use to foam rollers or a different brush?

Hey! I did the 2nd coat about 2 hours after the 1st coat. This stuff is pretty goopy so it dries quick. And the other little stuff was done with a foam brush that you can get for like $1. A regular brush will work too as this stuff smooths itself out.

I'm currently doing the same except of the tub, it's a very small bathroom...I followed the steps hopefully it comes out right⁰
Your bath looks great! I am in the prep stage of doing my shower (pink tile!). The sanding seems to be doing nothing. Even tried an 80 grit paper. I can see that yours still look shiny even after you sanded. What should I expect the tiles to look like after sanding? I want to make sure the paint adheres to the tile surface.
Hi Kimberlee, yea when you sand it doesnt look like much, even in person. It is still making abrasions on the surface that will help the paint stick better. The other purpose of sanding (for me) is cleaning up the tile even better since its from the 1950s.
I am having the same problem with my 70s bathroom tile.. I am also using 80 grit sand paper..
I have done this with a pink tub and tile. The key is be diligent with the prep. Multiple THIN coats. I did three and gave it a full 7 days to cure after. Absolutely no water running in the bathroom until it was done. If you see ANY fish eyes on the first coat, sand and clean again in that area. Your first coat will reveal any inadequate prep.

Hi Kelly, On other videos that I have watched on the Rustoleum Tub and Tile the people complain about it being too thin and runny and when they apply it it does run down the tile but in your video it didn't it went on and stayed where you put it. Did you wait any amount of time after after you mixed it to let it set up a little before applying it?

I'm going to do my bathroom tile walls with this, but not my surround tub and tiles. I think and have read that, after a few years, this stuff peels because of water contact. So, for the wall tiles, yes. For the tub and surrounding tiles I'm going to use Ekopel.

Comrade, a tip: Next time do your after shot during the day. Your night version already looks brighter and cleaner than the before shot, with full sunlight it'd be a spectacular transformation. Anyways, that's my 2c, thank you for the useful/informative video!

Super satisfying to watch, I loved this video, I wish I could do the same but my bathing doesn’t have a window, therefore, I feel I’m gonna faint from all the chemicals 😵

Prep is key. It's just like you're painting a car. You got all the substrate clean and even tack clothed. I would offer that during sanding, a hand detail of all the not flat nooks and crannies would be a good extra step. 3M scrub pad thingy or sand paper (even a used disc) Everything you are going to coat needs to look dull from being given "teeth".
I’m in the middle of this project. I tried 220, 120 and 100 grit paper on my orbital sander. Barely did anything. Now using 60 grit and it’s finally removing the gloss finish. My bathroom is nearly identical to this one.
I guess my question (I’ve never done this before) is do I have to sand the tile down to a flat/matte finish before applying the paint? In the video the tile still looks shiny when he applies it?
@@idonthavealithp Think molecular mountain range. The less glaze left the better, but the key is to hit everywhere at least a bit to provide "nooks and crannies to hold the melted butter". I'll bet our host gets away with the job he did, but my idea might buy a few more years. [Nooks and crannies courtesy 70's English muffin commercial.] And the goop used in this is pretty thick so it should hide 60 grit scratches. Da a test tile to make sure you don't need to smooth it first with finer paper. Be a shame to have to do it twice.
