I made this tonight. My son said “This tastes like something we’d eat at a restaurant on vacation.” We loved it. The cream dip was delicious. Thank you!
I don't think there is a higher cooking compliment from your kid!
Forreal. I added lime and some ethnic hot sauce to my salsa.... bruh
@DHOTYA
@Eugene he probably means any hot sauce besides Texas Pete
No he didnt.
I took your suggestion the other day of using a higher than 20% fat ground beef and literally brought back memories of my favorite childhood taco place. Can’t put a price on that… but it was technically cheaper than leaner beef.
fat is flavor, always has been
Beef fat is cheaper than beef meat. It's harder and more expensive to develop muscle in cattle than just overfeeding them corn slop or whatever they eat
nothing wrong with the higher fat content. i prefer it in almost any circumstance. youre just going to end up adding some oil if you use too lean of a beef.
@@Noway-sg8md just to play devil's advocate for a moment- this is true if you're sourcing beef hormone and antibiotic free, but that crap is stored in the animal's fat. It's better in that case to go as lean as possible and sub the fat for a healthy oil like olive or avocado.

Excuse me while I go make some gourmet quesadillas. 🤤 👏🏻 🧀
I recommend gorgonzola, cheddar, swiss, or mozzarella cheese. They just melt so amazingly with the tortilla
Me: Takes like 1 hour to make the shells from his cookbook while partially burning them.
Josh: Papa Spank you!
LMAO no joke, I was thinking of making quesadillas today a few minutes ago, could not have come at a better time 🤣🤣
Now you will make quesadillas but better.
I ate quesadillas yesterday and they were not good. I hope they see this video
good time for quesadillas!
Same!!!
Is everybody craving quesadillas right now? Lol
As a Mexican-American, I was raised making Quesadillas with corn tortillas. I didn't have a Quesadilla made with flour tortilla until I had one at a fast food restaurant. I like them both but prefer mine at home with corn tortillas.
Thank you for another great video!
That's how I've always eaten quesadilla, too. I was eating tacos and tostadas long before there ever was the first Taco Tico restaurants. All thanks to a wonderful Italian/Dutch family who spent their summer vacations in the Southwest.
Joshua, in the event that you see this, I just want you to know you're both an inspiration to me in the kitchen and I'm always so excited to see your videos. Thank you for making me feel like I can cook too and making it fun. You've changed my life. Thank you.
Ever since I made your burrito recipe, I've been whipping up homemade tortillas left and right for everything! Will do that one this week for sure.
You can also use any veggie as a filling with cheese. Great way to use left overs. Do not forget the green chilies.
I really enjoy a veggie sort of option with these as well - lotta mushrooms instead of the beef, basically. I am real interested in trying this tortilla recipe - it's quite different from the one I've been doing for a while now. Baking powder & oil vs butter. Thanks, as always. Enjoy the content. Cheers!
Oooohhh... dice up some baby bellas real fine? That'd be tight.
I get the nostalgia with store bought and sometimes it hits the spot. But, homemade is so much better. Thanks for the recipe! Can’t wait to try!
The way you cook is soo clean and amazing. I really wish I could taste your cooking, Im sure one day ☺️
This recipe is a must! Definitely making this one.
My boyfriend and I made this the other night! And again tonight, even the homemade flour tortillas. So good! Thanks 👍
Can yo boyfriend fight?
Is it worth making your own tortillas? Seems like a lot of work.
@@damienp7640 lmaooooo
@@GizmoMaltese yes!! So worth it. It was surprisingly super easy. I was eating the tortillas as is. Delicious!
Dude, you are such an inspiration. Im so going to try and make my own tortillas from now on. Keep on cooking man! Sure as hell I will!
didn’t make this exact recipe but did use his recipe for homemade tortillas and it’ definitely tastes better than using store bought!
The only thing I would have preferred is just a homemade tortilla with hand shredded cheese vs the store made ingredients one. You added a ton of extras to the gourmet one, which is great, but can't compare it to the other.
First place I ever had the plain quesadilla it had the cheese and guacamole in it.
he should have just compared storebought tortilla vs handmade
shredding cheese and frying up some beef is easy compared to making a tortilla from scratch, how much of a difference does it make, and are you really sacrificing that much by getting a half-decent storebought tortilla (not the crappiest one like he got for the video)
just make it for yourself omg its like 8 cents
THIS
He wasn’t exactly comparing them, hence why he said “it’s not a but better.” He was creating a baseline that many people know and loved growing up, and then showing that with a little bit of extra effort it can be elevated.
I love watching your videos.
The way that you dramatize and add comedic effects.
Is the way that I respond to customers in my mind of course lol.
Keep up the great work, you are thoroughly loved.
P.s.
congrats on the meet and eat that you are doing in L.A. I hope that you film it.
I did it today with my leftover pita meat and it was delicious ! Thank you for this amazing recipe ✨🥰
Can you do Icecream? Preferably an easy recipe that does not need a machine?
Also Mint Chip flavor, my favorite.
Easy recipe and all you need are 3 things:
1 Tbsp shredded and then diced Ice
2 Tbsp Whipped Cream
Mix in bowl and Freeze until it reaches the desired texture!
look for his mcflurry but better video, he made one without a machine
There is a great way of churning ice cream without a machine, but do know that it is physically difficult. Find your ice cream recipe, follow the directions, but once you get to the point of using a machine, you can get a bowl of ice, and hand churn it using a wooden spoon or something similar. It would be much easier to search up a real way online, but this is the start.
Bleu cheese is wonderful in certain applications, and if you don't like it, you can always substitute blue cheese instead.
🤣
I'm weird. I like cooking my ground beef with a whisk. It' does an amazing job of breaking it down into little bits, and it works for almost anything I cook other than hamburgers. Though, seriously, I have to make homemade tortillas already. My kitchen space is almost non existent, but I have to have those. Just missing out on too much.
Josh usually uses a potato masher so a whisk isn't so far far off
You're not the only one
But then you have to wash the grease off each little whisk wire, which is especially annoying in the center part where they all overlap.

Josh your editor is amazing, Everything little detail that’s put to make it funny is so perfect Just wanted to say great job!
Love you joshua, i wish if I could learn to cook from you. A lot of love from India
i just got his cookbook in from amazon yesterday and I'm excited to start trying his recipes and to become more well rounded with food, I don't dare call myself a chef but ya know we learnin over here.
This was one of the more accessible recipes in this series loved it easy to follow
As a mexican living in Mexico I've always supported your Mexican recipes, however this time I'm afraid that's not what we'd call quesadilla, actually that's a sincronizada, still a great approach tho
What is "wrong" about it? What would have made it a quesadilla? Not arguing, just ignorant of this so want to learn.
Sincronizadas is a specific type of quesadilla. Great approach with your comment tho
@@ross-carlson sincronizada is a flour tortilla based quesadilla. It contains meat vegetables and of course cheese. The traditional "regular" quesadilla contains cheese, spices, and maybe some type of protein. The traditional quesadillas are made out of corn tortilla... the reality is that is almost the same, but the difference is flour tortilla and the added vegetables in the sincronizada.
@@geriyeri30 No one in America makes quesadillas with corn tortillas, and that includes most latinos and all Mexican places. So be pedantic if you must but yeah.
@@geriyeri30 And tbh thinking about it, it's often flour tortillas I get when ordering quesadillas in Mexico as well.
Funny how i was thinking of making quesadillas today and i always look to see if papa has made a video on whatever food im thinking of making, and somehow thats litteraly todays episode
Just made this today and it was so good. Very easy to make and way better than the old way I used to make them. Thank you Joshua.
Love Quesadillas! Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to try this one🔥🔥
I want to see Joshua do a video on how to do a week of meals but cheaper and show us the grocery shopping list and everything lol I felt that comment last week about "i spent $20 on all this its not but cheaper" lol
Yes, things like meat and dairy products tend to be way more expensive, and then there's stuff like whole bottles you only need tablespoons out of multiple times a year at best. Buying small bottles and packages of ingredients easily more than doubles the price overall.
Living within ~2-3 mins of a Taqueria that will sell their fresh made tortillas, I just pick up a stack of those lol. Definitely better than something I would make at home. And I don't understand why more people don't buy blocked cheese and just shred a lot, store it in a plastic container or something for later use if you know you're going to be lazy? Granted, in college I always bought pre-shredded. But I've noticed as I have gotten older that it doesn't melt the same. And to me, quesadillas are like traditional nachos. Can just have it with cheese and jalapenos and call it a day. Hell, when drunk, that's all I do lol.
These But Cheaper eps and the faster than ordering from a restaurant ones are my favs of yours.
Your videos always remind me how self made food...cooked skillfully is always the best. Imma cook something now (eventhough my mom cooked already).
Your videos are obsessing & addictive i can't stop watching you, you deserve the best
Hey Josh, do you think you could make but cheaper summer drinks? like ice tea, lemonade or cocktails - anything refreshing.
it’s almost as if you were watching me in the taco bell drive thru yesterday waiting 30 minutes to pay $10 for 2 quesadillas
👎
I cannot Wait to try this!!!! The crema sounds amazing!! I have your cookbook and am working my way through it!!! Loved this video and your personality!
dont try this, its chemical waste
Just made chicken quesadillas yesterday for lunch..didn't have time to make the tortillas since I was making Josh's homemade bread for Cubano sandwiches for supper. Love this guy
Love quesadillas of all kinds. A friend of mine figured out how to patiently make them over a campfire and then had to make several for everyone. Also have had chavindecas at a restaurant which is pretty much what you made except with 2 tortillas like a sandwich…. Good stuff!
I prefer tortillas made with lard, but I've found some store bought flour tortillas have just about enough vegetable oil in the outside that they make decent quesadillas without the need to add an oil to the pan when you cook them. There's a few brands that are extremely oily though, those suck.
I like to get some Spanish chorizo sausage (not crumbly, it's dry), cut it up, fry it to cook it, then add that to the quesadilla. The chorizo oil is also pretty tasty and can be used instead of butter.
That looks so effing good!! Gotta try this one I already made (and loved) those tortillas
I was lazy so I just bought the wraps from the store, but got 2 chunks of cheese instead of pregrated. Really good!!
I will try the gourmet version soon!
Oh my god Josh! I really like it when I make it like that. I‘m not sure I‘m ever…
Thank Josh. College student just saved from starving

I love these..I wonder if you could do a "But Fancy" I know you do "but better" and "But cheaper" but it might be cool to see like a Whopper, but fancy. The way they do at those restaurants that "deconstruct" things.
Agreed.
Buzzfeed already does a "make it fancy" series. I dont think he would do it because of that idk :/
His but better food IS fancy
That makes a lot of sense love that idea!
Fans need to stop trying to come up with video ideas for this channel lol
I feel like if you put the same stuff in the store bought tortilla with pre shredded cheese, it would be pretty similar and less hassle of having to make your own tortillas and shred your own cheese.
But yes, homemade looks absolutely amazing
Exactly! I read the comments to see if someone was thinking how I’m thinking…put that meat and salsa verde in the crappy quesadilla and it’s gonna taste good as well lol
I have just discovered this Josh guy & these videos.... makes me laugh and also helps me learn great tips! I love quesadillas. Will be trying to make my own tortillas next time!

Alright, this is a question that's needed an answer for far too long: how are you getting your rolled out tortilla disc man into the pan while keeping it in a perfect circle? Mine always ends up stretching whichever way I pick it up
Press with parchment paper and slap it down on the pan/griddle.
You can use the rolling pin to try and keep it even and roll it off into the pan
Yo congrats on the 6 million subs man. Love your videos.
literally even though i’m not a big fan of the ingredients man you make a video so interesting like i’m there eating it
SUPER DELICIOUS!!!😋 Homemade is always better and cheaper.
I get it's cheap..ish (meat is NOT cheap where I live) and i'm definitely going to use your version for supper because it obviously tastes better but for an actually cheap and fast lunch? The first one wins hands down! No need to spend a ton of effort and time on making the tortillas, you don't have to get dishes dirty by grating cheese, cooking meat and chopping veg and you can do it all as fast as grilled cheese....it's just a far reach to compare and say "these are pretty much the same price and effort" when it ain't true. Great recipe though!
I agree with you
Agreed.
As a proper student i go to the kitchen everyday at 2am and i make a pair of the good ol' cheap quesadilla. Personally is the best night snack, cheap, easy, quick and not that dirty. I think on sundays im gonna prepare myself the components from this video for a week so if i want a quesadilla ill just put it all together. Ty man for the recipe.

I like most of your videos, but I would really like to see you turn simple cheap ingredients that most folks have into something beautiful and delicious. Please make that video.
Isn't that exactly what happened in this one? Flour, oil, salt, cheddar, beef, onion...there's nothing in here that isn't a basic, staple food.
