      Thank you too! I am very pleased that a conductor with a "nuanced, expressive and subtle" style (CityNews, July 25, 2021) visited my RUclips channel.
      Thank you again and I wish you to achieve your greatest heights in this profession!

    A boy just past his seventeenth birthday wrote this amazing piece. Those three repetitive notes are genius

      "The Symphony in C was never published nor performed in Bizet’s lifetime; in fact, no one knew it existed until nearly eighty years later, in 1933. Why Bizet never mentioned this work in any of his letters, nor tried to have it published and performed, is a matter of speculation."
      Whatever the truth, I love this symphony for its orchestration and elegant charm, and I thank you for appreciating the music!

    This was recorded by Decca for RCA with RCA engineers, it was recorded as part of a Readers Digest, in 1962. The RPO was at the top of it’s form, only a year after the death of Sir Thomas Beecham, the orchestra’s founder and conductor. The recordings are simply marvellous!

      Oh, my beloved Bizet! With the arias from his operas, I started my "musical life".... :) (I was a child then)

    What a beautiful rendition of this neglected work. Charles Munch and the Royal Phil certainly give a wonderful performance. To think of Bizet's only being 17 years old when he composed it! Another symphonic masterpiece, when he is notable mostly for Carmen and L'Arlesienne. Absolutely loved listening to it. Marie Miller.

    • @murrayaronson3753

      It's not that neglected. George Balanchine choreographed a ballet to the music. Symphony in C or Palais de Cristal is in the repertory of the New York City Ballet and performed by other companies. The dance movement captures the beauty of the symphony. So far in my concert going I have not yet heard a live performance of Bizet's wonderful work as a plain symphony. Once it was scheduled by the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, but it was cancelled at the last minute and was replaced by a Beethoven symphony, not the 8th nor the 4th. Poor choice IMHO.

    Magnificent by Munch and the RPO. The most exciting performance I've ever heard of this wonderful symphony. Brilliantly done. Thank for uploading.

    Delightful and I heard today from a friend that Bizet was 17 years old when he composed this. How do these musical geniuses hear this in their heads I wonder?! To be a fly on the wall of this brain! BRAVO!

    • @blastocyst2102
      @blastocyst2102 6 лет назад

      Not quite as simple as he just heard it in his head at 17. The Wikipedia entry for this symphony is useful. Bizet was deeply influenced by Gounod's D major symphony in writing his own C-major symphony. He took a LOT from the Gounod. The striking part about this is that Bizet just transformed his source material: his symphony is far superior to the Gounod, which, while perfectly pleasant, is not in the same class as Bizet's symphony.

    • @murrayaronson3753
      @murrayaronson3753 5 лет назад

      Gounod's two symphonies, but they don't cut the Dijon mustard like Bizet's Symphony in C. And to think it was discovered by accident years later. George Balanchine used the music to create a wonderful ballet which is in the repertory of the New York City Ballet and performed by other companies.
      Mendelssohn wrote his Octet at age 17 or 18 and it too is wonderful. So are Franz Schubert's teenage work. Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Bizet all died alas too young.

    Well, thank you, for making me aware of this recording. And of course, many thanks to both Mssrs. Bizet and Munch [and the orchestra] for this lively, crisp, lyrical and superbly buoyant rendition.

    From the viewpoint of an orchestral violinist, this is a wonderful symphony to perform. Technically it's a real bitch, especially the last movement. Great fun, great recording, thanks sibarit for posting.

    In the picture Bizet looks twice the age he was when he wrote this symphony at seventeen years old.

    One cannot overestimate the loss to music if Georges had never written Carmen but, if he had instead written symphonies, what wonders might he have produced without the awful stress of trying to obtain success in the opera world. 17 years old and this. A mature Bizet...(?)

    Again, Charles Munch weaves his magic with a gem of the French repertoire. I enthusiastically recommend Munch's readings of all French masterpieces, many which are available for listening on RUclips. His version of D'Indy's delightful Symphony on a French Mountain Air is a "must listen" - no other version even comes close! ruclips.net/video/YP29bbxUrec/видео.html

    Arguably one of the best french symphonies ever written; always a pleasure to listen to, especially the 2nd movement (Adagio). Unfortunately, the whole symphony is a bit too fast to my liking ! Thank you anyway for posting !

      Askender III this is the first version of the symphony I ever heard in the early sixties. Try the version by Sir Thomas Beecham, it is quite a bit slower. I have this cd. Beecham was always great, never dull, but I do prefer the Munch in this. Cheers.

    Je cherche l'adage de la symphonie en Ut de Bizet pour le hautbois et je trouve votre site! Justement je viens de laisser un message -France Musique- pour Christian Merlin où je parlait de sybarite... et le nom que voua avez choisie me semble le plus idoine... surtout ce jour de Saturnales

      Merci beaucoup! En tout cas, en "interprétant" ici "un sybarit", je pensais seulement à la joie et au goût des plaisirs délicats (le plaisir de la musique en particulier) :)
